Last time we Qualcomm's
mirasol display in action, it was still enjoying its black-and-white simplicity. While the ultra-efficient, ambient light-loving technology hasn't gone through that
Pleasantville epiphany just yet, a 1.1-inch bichrome mirasol touchscreen has found its way onto
Inventec's V112 Smartphone alongside a decidedly more colorful bigger brother. It'll serve to show time, incoming and missed calls, email and SMS alerts, MP3 song information, and other information that doesn't require a lot of space or hue. As for the phone itself, we've got GPS, WiFI, Bluetooth, a three megapixel camera, and no word on pricing or availability. Additioanlly, Inventec has announced an agreement with
LG to include use mirasol -- presumably also as secondary screens -- into one more commercial handsets sometime in the future. A great deal for Qualcomm, for sure, but how about a few more details on what exactly those phones will be?

I thought Inventec's phone brand was OKWAP?
I like it! But in my opinion pretty useless because you have the regular screen right there...
yeah, until they bring some real features to the table, it is just going to go down the trash soon enough. moreover why would you wanna waste some real estate and also (though minimal) battery power when thats what everyone is trying to save?
I don't think you would really be wasting it. You could just check that little screen to see what call you just missed, instead of going through the menus to find it.
most of the phones these days have that information on the main screen one click deep! and remember this might not show up on the cheaper phones, so not very convinced for now, have to wait and watch how this goes :)
I think it's pretty nifty actually...
I would prefer a larger main screen. However, this would be cool on the back of the phone...
Further, it can help support the camera on the back of phones, or maybe basic infor when using the speaker phone...

So black-and-green UIs are all the rage now? I guess that's a good sign for Palm.
Tiny typo
"Last time we Qualcomm's mirasol display in action..."
Anyone want to play madlibs?
saw, ate, nom nomed, pwned, pew pewed...
I know this is stupid, but Iphone really needs this so that you can see if you've got SMS/missed calls without having to turn the screen on!
