Microsoft's mansion at Mobile World Congress contains -- among other things -- a playground of recent Windows Mobile-powered models designed to show off its licensees' collective design and manufacturing prowess. By and large, the models were nothing we haven't known about for days, months, or years, but one stood out for us: this here Samsung Valencia. We've heard of this sucker through Expansys
as the C6625 with a $365 sticker price -- but Samsung doesn't seem to know anything about it and it's only being shown by Microsoft, so we suppose they've opted against an unveiling here at the show. Microsoft's spec sheet indicates that it's got 3G (which jibes with Expansys' details), GPS, 128MB each of RAM and ROM, a totally pedestrian QVGA display, and a 393MHz processor -- slow for a Professional device, yes, but this sucker's Standard with some minor UI mods. One thing that's got us a little confused is the line item indicating 20GB of storage -- something tells us that a phone with these kinds of specs wouldn't be packing 20GB on board, so it might refer to a theoretical max of 20GB with the microSD maxed out. We're not losing sleep over the missing announcement with this one, guys, so don't sweat it or anything.
Samsung's business-minded smartphones are quite good...talking of the BlackJacks here (not Omnia). Correct me if I'm wrong but this was amongst the best smartphones.
PS: I'm not a Blackjack user.
The 20GB might be internal for multimedia storage. Doesn't take much on the other specs to add that. A low-cost flash chip adds media player promotability on an otherwise dull device.
Looks like a BlackBerry Bold with crippled specs and further crippled by MS Windows... Are MS so desperate to showcase this??? YES, they are.
MS owned the entire show basically, and this is just another notch on their resume for MWC 09.
Besides, WinMo is by far the most powerful and flexible OS out there, crippled would be if this somehow or another feature Mobile OSX.
"MS owned the entire show basically"
Samsung's Omnia HD and Sony Ericsson's Idou would like to have a word with you...
OMG! that's so expensive! $365 for a phone? Are you kidding me?
Oh, wait--that's about the same price point as an Apple iPhone. Why isn't anyone bitching about the price? Oh, it's not an Apple product.
Psst... look up the words "subsidized" and "unsubsidized" in a dictionary.
Psst. Look up the prices yourself, jackass.
Hey, reality check. iPhone prices are $199 and $299, which are both still below the $365 sticker quoted in the article. Quit your bitching.
Are you sure? Because it kind of looks like an iPhone jammed into the top of a Blackberry.
@2kool:
Crippled by Windows? Why don't you try using a Windows Mobile device before you make inane statements and comment on hardware and software you've never even handled (no you haven't don't lie). K Thanks.
Looks like a pretty good replacement for the soon to be discontinued Motorola q9 series, which is actually a great series of smartphones.
Though, I prefer the standard WM 6.1 sliding panels interface to this, which appears to be identical to the T-Mobile Shadow (the original one)'s homescreen.
Motorola Q called; they want their shell back.
seriously, this is worth a post?
I own a Blackjack II and I have to say, with a couple mods (namely SmartToolKit 1.09 and PointUI, not to mention Garmin GPS) this phone rocks!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I bought this phone because it outshined the iPhone in call quality and a tactile keyboard.
The only real complaint I have with the BJ2 is that the processor (while being dualcore) is kinda weak. The HTC's have 450-650-mhz chips. I would have liked to see that in the BJ2. Instead, they stuck with a 263mhz I think. And I see with this phone, they haven't upgraded much. Oh, and a touch screen would have been nice. I almost opted for the Eternity since it's essentially a BJ3, but I didn't have the money.
This Valencia looks more like a MotoQ/Nokia hybrid....
Come on Microsoft...companies do try their best to keep these products quiet, and they you go and spoil it all, (by saying something stupid like...) by outing them too early.
This thing- like the majority of Samsung's smartphones is ridiculously underpowered
Maybe the 20GB is online somewhere for product life.. Like "with this price you bought a 20gb hard disk hooked up to power and network somewhere in trinidad. your 20gb are yours and nothing will ever change that, even though every time you want some you'll have to PAY YOUR NETWORK CARRIER TO DOWNLOAD IT."
What theme/skin is this windows mobile running?
Can I run this theme/skin on another windows mobile phone?
