BenQ puts its all-in-one where its mouth is, announces nScreen i91
Remember when we told you BenQ was hot and bothered for all-in-one computers? That pronouncement wasn't just the soulful yearnings of a lustful suitor; the company has followed through, revealing the i91, first in its nScreen line of (nearly) fully integrated machines. It's an 18.5-inch, 16:9 LCD boasting an AMD Semperon 210U processor, 1GB of memory, 160GB hard drive, and some other niceties like a 4-in-1 card reader, integrated webcam, and an average power consumption of just 30 watts. The machine is designed to be incredibly simple to use, like a television, advertising that users can just plug it in, press in the big volume/power knob, and then surf away -- assuming they know to connect the keyboard and mouse first. Sure, it's not half as attractive as Lenovo's A600, but at $517 it is about half the cost. No word on US availability, but can be found on store shelves in Taiwan now, with a 21-inch model, the i221, coming soon.

Amazing price!
what the hell is with that screenshot?
For personal use, I'd never buy an Apple desktop computer, but for my school students, I specifically demand iMacs on my budget. I like the neatness of the Apple all-in-one design, but, more importantly, I perfer Leopard Server to Windows Server.
alot of people will attack that comment and talk about the flaws of apple's server, but the truth is, if you've got pre-K through 5 students walking into the room simultaneously ready to jump on a computer and you want to remove widgets from everyone's screen simultaneously, or add them simultaneously - BY GRADE LEVEL - Leopard Server makes it easy to do.
In fact, I could manage all the settings for all the computers simultaneously from a macbook. That's some pretty damn good software.
This AllinOne Ben Q is good for a price under $600, but if it can't run OSX I couldn't buy it in mass for my purposes.
And I'm setting up a computer lab in March. I'm planning for 35 iMacs and 30 macbooks with a cart.
i have no idea what your comment explains about my question? what the hell is with the youtube screenshot? It is scary.
@Flashpoint
Maybe BenQ's target audience isn't the educational market?
Just saying...
Its more like a kitchen appliance from what I see. I'd figure by the time they're available here
would be around the oem ship date for Windows 7 anyway.
@Najakwa: What about yous? ;)
@Najakwa: Flashpoint likes his comments to be at the beginning so they can be voted down with minimal effort.
No wonder education is struggling in this country! We are wasting all our money on iMacs when we could be getting 2-3 PCs at the same price!
Sempron 210U? Ant idea how that compare to the performance of the Atom?
They arnt that different in terms of pull, but these Semprons have a tiny cache L2, and usually run at around 1.5Ghz.
Its the poor mans atom.
Sempr0n === Atom Clockspeed, multiplied by 1.4-1.6x.
That's the majority equivalent.
mikeo, not this one, its designed to run off 9watts, not you average sempron.
256KB cache hits it a little, but not much due to the already integrated memory controller.
210U runs at 1.5Ghz. At worst ~1.4 x 1.5Ghz = ~2.1Ghz. It uses 16/17W too instead of 9 (but the chipset saves power at the end).
So it does handily beat the Atom at CPU power, and also graphics (X1250 actually runs WoW, Sims and Spore, I reckon).
A what keyboard?
... ... ...
What the hell are wires?
Long strands of thin, conductive metal, often interwoven to create thick twine. Used almost univerally as a conductor. Also, very cheap to produce. Not to mention much more responsive when it comes to data loads.
Have I answered your question? Because I started with the general discription, and then moved on to a more specific answer, just to clear any remaining questions up.
Your my hero
hmph. looks like they are using the same cheapy plastic mouse that sony includes in their all-in-one...
Two questions:
1) Can you turn the sound off without turning off the computer? (excluding software mute)
2) Is turning the volume to 11 the same as the old "Turbo" buttons? (because it totally should be)
Wow! What a price. It looks nice, same about the non wireless keyboard and mouse. I wonder what the graphics are on this?
Hey Benq, what about a model based on AMD Neo platform for a little added boost.
I want an all in one form factor.
we are rapidly headint towards the sticky non-standardization we have with laptops.
First one to build a barebones all in one gets my moneyz.
Nobody's going to build a barebones all in one. That kinda defeats the benefits of it being all in one.
Well, you could argue that the VESA mounted MSI Windbox is an All-in-one, given the design.
As others have noted, I don't understand why you'd go into competition with the like of the iMac and produce a publicity picture that shows a wired keyboard and mouse. A modern all-in-one system only requires a power cable, although you should be able to connect wired devices if that is what floats your boat.
More plastic junk from Ben.
Get an iMac.
Compare the prices before you say something dude, they arent aimed at the same audience!
i like it, the screens small thou, but i really like that knob, slob on my knob
