Red Xbox 360 mentioned in PR, is probably real
So it looks like that red Xbox 360 Elite that we heard might be on its way is, in fact, on its way. A press release for Halo Wars in New Zealand makes mention of the phantom console -- the deal is that anyone buying a new Xbox 360 will get a free copy of the game, but the fine print excludes the doesn't-yet-exist red model, because it's "exclusive to EB Games." So this is the Resident Evil 5 one? It's all so unclear. We haven't picked up on any context clues as to a time frame for release or price. Yet.

Is that so you can't see the red rings?? Zing, just kidding, I love my 360 eventhough I've sent it in 3 times
design fail...you really would think MS would try to distance itself from the color red....
they're switching to the green ring of death for this model.
well they're so good at making red rings this way it'll go along with a whole "theme"
lol i sad the same thing to a friend yesterday when i told him xbox will come in red to disguise the red ring of death
game consoles are for losers. :) build a pc you lazy bum.
Sorry to break it for you, but consoles are much better than PCs. PCs hardly have any exclusives that are worth playing nowadays.
Software availability is the bane of any superior platform.
...I don't bother with a game until it'll run in some emulator. I played Zelda for the first time last year.
Patrik,
is it the lower resolution that you prefer or perhaps you prefer the
the lack of customization
the lower framerates
the lack of sufficient AA and almost nonexistent AF
the lack of more game-types such as MMORPG's, RTS's, proper FPS's, Sim's
the pathetic control scheme when it comes to FPS's
the limited multiplayer with usually half the number of players and options as on the PC versions
the longer loading times and the need to have the disc in the drive to play 99% of the titles
the lacking hardware add-ons such as professional-class racing wheels for racing sims and joysticks for flight sims
Well?
Which is it?
I mean, let's forget the fact that PC's get most of the major titles that come out for consoles as well, at least for the X360 and PS3, and that we run them far better than any of the consoles.
Let's also forget the fact that we do have tons of exclusives that may not get as much media attention but are still respected by the community by and large:
You want your EXCLUSIVES, here are your EXCLUSIVES:

Joe Sixpacks don't build PCs.
Plus building a compatible gaming PC ($700+) will be more expensive than buying a PS3 ($400). PS3 here is a good deal even for a casual gamer/geek.
@Patriks7: Sorry to break it TO you, but you are clearly wrong. I am not saying that PCs ARE better than consoles, but you cannot say that consoles are better than PCs definitivelly like that. To each his own.
If you are saying consoles ARE better because of the exclusives for consoles, you have obviously never really looked into it. The PC as a gaming platform may have few "mainstream" exclusives such as shooters (which it does have as well. Recent ones include Crysis and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.) but there is also a huge number of games which as a console gamer you have probably never heard of. X3: Reunion for example is a very, very complicated space-sim which is only on PC. Not to mention all of the indie games which show up on the PC. There has always been far more innovation on the PC than on consoles as well because anyone with enough programming knowledge can make a game for the PC. With consoles you have to buy a rather expensive Dev-kit.
Then of course there is the fact that FPSs and RTSs play better with a keyboard/mouse than a gamepad (and anyone who trys to tell you otherwise probably has never really tried it with a keyboard/mouse), and the PC is capable of producing FAR superior graphics.
Also, because of not needing a dev-kit, games on PC tend to be considerably cheaper, which I suppose makes up a little for the hardware being so expansive (although other than my graphics card, everything else I would have even if I didn't game, so...)
^-^ I mentioned PS3 here only because it is a most expensive gaming console ($400+).
XBox is even a better deal at $200+
...Oh, and I forgot to mention modding and MMOs...'nuf siad
Or maybe he:
Likes the ability to play sitting on the couch in his living room.
Enjoys using his HDTV for more than Movies and TV.
Doesn't need a surround sound system for his home theatre and his office to enjoy the best possible sound on movies and games.
Would rather not worry about wether or not his video card is compatible with the most recent games.
Doesn't want to wait through install times and would rather have an instant on experience.
Sees a $300 console as a better value than a $700-$7000 computer.
Isn't interested in MMO's or RTS's, but enjoys a wide range of platformers and FPS's.
You may feel that console gaming is inferior, but there are many reasons that people choose a console over a gaming computer.
I would love to build a pc but when a video card costs as much if not a little less then the xbox 360 elite, it is a little too pricey. I would definitely buy the red 360 if amazon sold it. Not EB. EB, YOU SUCK!!!
Has noone taken into consideration the price of a tv for a console?
Sure you can buy a PS3 for £299 (UK prices sorry) but then you realy need to buy a HD tv for it also, or factor in the cost that you purchased one already. Otherwise, without a tv, where are you?
So that is another £499 at least for a decent 37" TV.
Also a Home Cinema System to hear the glorious dolby sounds £149-£299.
You get one controller with your console so another £30 at least for a second for a friend.
To play online with your xbox that will be £40 a year.
I built my whole pc for £800, including a 22" monitor and a 5.1 speaker set up.
That in my opinion and many others, gives you a lot more for your money. And games are cheaper on pc and often can use better graphic settings. (GTA IV excluding)
I also have an xbox 360 and love it. But my PC has given me more hours of gaming entertainment than it since i got them both 2 years ago.
Electromodo.
That $700 gaming PC can be used for almost an infinite number of purposes.
The $400 PS3 can be used for a handful at best.
@Chris Dunning:
So he prefers consoles to PCs for gaming? Thats fine, as long as he (I assume you're talking about Patriks7 here) doesn't try to claim that they are definitivelly better. Sure, you might already have a cheap PC for doing internet, email and office type work, and so a console is more cost effective. Yes a living room can be more comfortable to game in. Yes, many people prefer the "instant on" of console games (no installs - although if you're really too lazy to wait for a game to install then you've got problems).
On value though it's all relative. If you're buying/building a new computer for general use, all you really have to add to the cost of that is a graphics card (and maybe a better processor and a little more ram) so really the price difference is negligable, especially when you take into account the TV (with the PC you're getting most of it anyway, with the console, you're getting the TV anyway). Oh and "Isn't interested in MMO's or RTS's, but enjoys a wide range of platformers and FPS's." well sorry to burst you bubble there, but FPSs work better on PCs in almost every respect than on consoles. Platformers though are really about the same, and most aren't on PC so you've a point there.
I personally prefer the PC gaming community as well. It may seem a little snob-ish but because of it's price there are far fewer kids who play on PC (thier parents may be willing to spens the $300 on a console, but not on an entire gaming rig) so PC gamers tend to be older, less trash-talking people (also a reason why the PSN community is a little better than LIVE, again because of the cost). Disregarding most MMOs of course, which usually run on anything.
Also, I don't think anyone actually said (although it was implied a few times) that PC gaming is better.I must point out again though that most of this is OPINION, not fact. You can argue about this stuff for all eternity, and neither side will win. You can prove that the PC is capable of the best graphics etc, and that console gaming tends to be more social (again MMOs asside), but it's all just opinion as to which suits you better. To me it's PC > PS3 > 360 > Wii but that's not to say that the Wii is bad or that the PC is all powerful, it just suits me better.
Thank you, Chris Dunning. That was exactly my point. PCs become obsolete too fast for new games, while game makers have a set hardware they can build on, so I don't have to worry about upgrading regularly.
@Hamidxa
You need to get layed... bad...
@Chris Dunning
^^^^ You are the man... put him in his place lol
@Electromodo: "Joe Sixpacks don't build PCs"...but Mavericks Do!!
@ Alpathon

contradict yourself much? you say the PC gaming community is better because its more expensive/higher prices... and then you say the PSN community is better than LIVE because "of the cost".... LIVE cost 6 bucks a month.. PSN = Free... uhhh, please read over your comments b4 writing them =P
The one thing that makes consoles better then pcs is the use-ability factor. If I read a game review at 2 am, i can go to my local walmart and pick it up. I can then take my game to my friends homes and play it on their console. 99% of my friends own consoles.
It might not have better graphics, it might be slower, it might not have better sound, but console games will play on consoles. Theres no questions whether it will play or not.
In before the RROD jokes
liar!
Epic failure here. /leaves and hides in a dark place
Microsoft needs to hire some hotter models. Take a page from Samsung , Microsoft
how ugly is that !
I think it'd be a whole lot awesomeer if they gave it a kind of gritty matt black/brown worn look and then did a kind of blood splatter in red gloss. It would give it a wonderful "someone just got chainsawed" look that every RE fan would want!!!
On a scale of 1 to 10, it's pretty friggin ugly.
i wonder if its for the RED campaign?
same thing that I was wondering. I for one would be much more willing to pay for an ugly red xbox if it put money towards fighting AIDS
If this was the RRoD edition I'd pay more to fight RRoDs....that's more important than solving aids in africa.
They need a plaid version.
I'm in for 2 if they do
This will go well with my multitude of RROD's!
You mean the RRoD xbox 360?
oh you beat me to it.
finally a cover that matches the pretty red lights.. ps3 FTW!!!
WOOT I'm with ya! plus we get Blu ray instead of a useless HD DVD player collecting dust
looks horrible. but then again, this is just keeping with ms' habit of designing some of the ugliest hardware ever. every single version of the xbox (including 360) and all peripherals look cheap and ugly. white plastic? matte black for an ELITE? gross.
red just continues the trend. congrats ms, youve not surprised anyone.
you do realize that there hasn't been an official photo of the red 360 yet right? this is a moc-up.....
I dont care if it is a mock up. red + console = ugly.
"red + console = ugly"
I beg to differ.

They are selling red wireless controllers with the play & charge kits on buy.com right now.

im fine with my halo 3 version.
How can it be an EB-Games exclusive if the first evidence of it is from the Toys R Us inventory?
Hamidxa,
why cant people just like console games and people like pc games?
my pc is used for storing music, and videos to stream to my xbox and to use the internet
maybe i should buy a PC and then have to buy a 300 dollar video card every couple years and new power supplies and ways to keep the thing from running at 100 degress Celsius...
of course in the grand scheme of things a PC is a more powerful and you get benefits, but it costs money and time to keep a PC up and running all the time.. i bought an xbox 3 ? years ago, whenever launch was.. and it sits in the same spot and keeps working like a charm.
It all evens out, its like sitting here arguing that basketball is better then hockey
"if you want to just shoot at a hoop all day, so be it, ill just sit here and shoot rubber pucks at some red poles with a net in it"
"would you rather buy 1 console every 6 years and play games with like 16 of your friends, or have to buy new ram, and video cards every couple years to play the best games with 1231029 people"
I will pwn you n00b......Leet FTW!
