So, we thought we'd fire up the old, old,
old Treo 650 and see what TealOS looked like on it. The results are recorded above. The launcher actually hits a bunch of the basic webOS functionality pretty decently; swiping cards away, the wave launcher, reshuffling the deck, the transparent launcher. Of course, there's no deeper integration (like webOS's contact aggregation, etc.), and the animation is fairly jagged, but it still does an admirable job of copying the UI. The app is a nice effort from the Teal folks, one which
might help you wait out the Pre launch a little, but ultimately it's window dressing more than anything else.
I am really impressed. A great refresh of an old OS. The boys over at TealOS deserve some serious props.
I'm using it on my Centro and I'm loving it -it works perfectly. It's a nice intro into how the Pre will work and well worth the download price.
Joshtops, excellent video review. It's a shame that I sold my Treo 650 to Second Rotation (gazelle) a year ago. Now I'm pining for it to try this. I'm rather impressed with the overall fluidity of this, considering the hardware and OS. I didn't think Palm OS was capable of anything like this, and kind of brings life to that tired dog.
Too bad we'll never see anything like this for Windows Mobile. (Well.. I supposed there's MobileShell 2.0, but bleh...)
Here's to waiting for the Pre.
There is still nothing better than the Treo 650 out there. There is an incredible amount of Palm software available for any conceivable purpose. So the Internet connection is a bit slow. Wikipedia has practically all the info I need when I am on the road that that works pretty fast. Maybe the Pre will be a suitable upgrade. I sure hope so.
It works amazingly well
Does anyone here own a Tapwave Zodiac? It runs Palm OS 5.x. I'm hoping it will run this software since the Tapwave has the best screen (and video ram) of any Palm OS device!
I was going to install it last night but I think I killed my main Zodiac (issue not related to this application, hardware problems...damn static discharge might have killed it)
Is it just me or does TealOS run about 10 times faster on this old ass 650 than it did in the demo video using the Centro?
The 650 was not the last good palm device. The 680 was. It took everything from the 650 and perfected it.
