iPoint 3D brings gesture-based inputs to 3D displays
Just in case you've been parked out under a local stone for the past six months and change, we figured it prudent to let you know that the 3D bandwagon has totally regained momentum. So much momentum, in fact, that the brilliant minds over at Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft have decided to bust out a 3D innovation that actually makes us eager to sink our minds into the elusive third dimension. The iPoint 3D, which we're hoping to get up close and personal with at CeBIT next week, is a technology that enables Earthlings to interact with a 3D display via simple gestures -- all without touching the panel and without those style-smashing 3D glasses. The gurus even go so far as to compare their creation to something you'd see in a science fiction flick, with the heart of it involving a recognition device (usually suspended above the user) and a pair of inbuilt cameras. There's no mention of just how crazy expensive this would be if it were ready for the commercial realm, but we'll try to snag an estimated MSRP for ya next week.

This would made 3D modeling much more interesting..

Nokia has patent for this kind of input system but I doubt that they are going to sue these guys.
KarlW @ Feb 22nd 2009 1:43PM
Why does the price need to be crazy expensive? The PS2's eyetoy does something similar, you just need to couple it with a 3D display (which is the expensive part).
All it needs above a 3D display is a camera and some built-in software.

*rolls eyes at another "i"product.*
Does no one have any fucking imagination? the "i"'s 15 minutes are up, time to move on. Just like ".com" and "e" everything, the phrase has been completely worn out.
Hackettman @ Feb 22nd 2009 2:38PM
I agree..... But its a trend...... Remember when everything was "X-treme" I mean cmon how many things can you name i........ ihate ithings.......

Kudos to all companies and researchers finally relalizing that we are badly in need of new input devices and methods to interface with our electronic machines and components.
Mouse and k-boards need to be replaced (at least ouside offices);Touch screens are fine only on screens less than 10/12 inches or maybe horizontal surfaces; voice recognition and commands are perfectly fine if used with a manually activated microphone to avoid interferences from background noise and voices, but for ununderstandably this most logical technology of input/interface has been limited to voice dialing on mobile phones, and decent dictation and voice recognition softwares for PCs and media centers still sell for absurd prices and still require an impractical learning period.
I'm sure that sooner than later the battle of OS will be replaced by the battle of UI/input methods.
Companies starting early will accumulate invaluable advantage and that's where I'm investing my (little) savings.

Since when does tech need a "practical" use?
I think this is great, should help push for more 3D content..So im guessing that 3D gaming is definitely going to be present in the near future..

i wish they would stop with the 'i' crap already. Its really sickening. Can't they come up with some creative name of their own. Fools.

That suspension belongs to a Hyundai Accent.
FWD, McPherson Strut up front, independent rear, 4 lug. kumho solus rubber.
the wheel matches the current (2009) ones.
and this matches: http://www.hyundaiusa.com/vehicle/accent/performance/performance.aspx
