There seems to be no shortage of chatter about celebrities and their new Palm handsets today. We
already knew that stars attending the Independent Spirit Awards would be getting a swag bag containing -- among other things -- a Palm Pre, and based on the coverage we're seeing from the event (held on the 21st), they at least got to handle them. It's actually difficult to say if Palm was giving the device out that night or putting people on a waiting list, but what it does make clear is that the Pre can't be too far from launch if the company felt comfortable enough to throw them into such an uncontrolled setting. Does this mean the release date is nearer than we think, or is Palm just hoping that a little of that star power rubs off on the phone? Either way, we're super jealous of Eliza Dushku.

As far as the Pre goes. Why would Palm do this? Since when are celebrities their bread and butter. When does a celeb tote a Palm device around? Add to that the fact that Palm is releasing a GSM version to Europe first instead of the U.S. is really showing how much they could care less about pleasing their REAL customers.

Does everyone reliaze these were not handed out. they were not really in the swag bags, there was a coupon that said: go to palm booth to sign up for it whe it does come out. out of a couple hundred attendees who got the coupon, about five went to the booth and were photographed with alpha models!

I wanted one up until I saw this picture. There is actually a mirror on the back of the thing. What the hell am I gonna use it for, maybe signaling for help.
What exactly is Eliza doing? Is she checking her makeup while someone talks on the phone? I'm assuming that's what the other woman is doing because that phone is nowhere near anyone's ear.

I learned to stop waiting for ipod/iphone killers when Zune came out.
Simple fact is, the PRE is just another Palm phone that, at a distance isn't as "loud" promoting itself as the iPhone does.
You can spot an iphone in someone's hands easily. a PRE looks like everything else. And with its black back cover...it doesn't scream PRE
The only reason to care about how easy it is to "spot an iphone in someone's hands" is if you really care what other people think about your phone.
Flashpoint, okay, the iPhone is a piece of god, but I still own a Zune, and will buy a Pre.

That big silver apple on the back of iphone speaks volumes. That's why they put it there - that's also why they ensured when you hold it your hand holds it in a way that the apple is visible.
Keep in mind, many people still have the black/silver back of the first gen iphone.
iphones design speaks for itself - iPhone is iPhone no matter which model it is.
when any normal person holds a phone, any logos on the back are covered, except maybe when taking photos.
but the iPhone's camera is so terrible, not many people do that anyway

That mirror behind the Pre is genius. Moment I saw that I knew this phone would appeal to the female audience.
Is there an actual mirror or is it just the glossy black reflection? I'm going for the rubberized touchstone version anyway. I can't stand the crack prone fingerprint/smudge magnet that is "gloss".
