$100 EyeClops Mini Projector announced for untatered tots
We knew it was coming, and sure enough Jakks Pacific just introduced its EyeClops Mini Projector for a penny shy of $100. Still light on specs, we can tell you that the palm-sized, LED projector features built-in speakers and up to 10 hours of operation off an unspecified number of D batteries when away from the mains. As to the quality, well, you typically get what you pay for and this pup is targeting a demographic of ages 8 and above -- 'nuff said. Look for it to ship sometime in the Fall.

Half a dozen of these in a small room and you have your own Pink Floyd experience.
for 100 bucks how could you NOT want one of these? as long as it throws up a halfway decent image i would be totally down for one.
Does it come with a fog machine?
I mean how else are you going to project the image of the pirate ghost ship?
Oh well, ya live by the ghost, ya die by the ghost.
(Go Team Venture!)
Dude i can fit like at least 5 D batteries in my ass.
Wait...it uses D batteries but it's palm size? A D battery is damn near palm size by itself...
Not that my enthusiasm is the least bit curbed.
The D Batteries fit in a pedestal that is roughly twice the size of the projector, but also allows you to aim it arbitrarily (I think). It also uses a 5V DC mains adapter.
These things could change by fall 2009, but that's the apparent setup they had for the non-functioning device at the NY Toy Fair.
i do hope it has an AC adaptor....but sign me up!!! a few of these would be awesome for gaming with friends. Any idea on rez? i'm guessing 800x600...
For the price?
I'm guessing 640x480 _at best_, but could be QVGA
They used a 300x224 color panel in the eyeclops... if they reuse that, then this will look pretty good. That panel is sequential color (like DLP), so it doesn't suffer the the screen-door effect. That, plus good color gradients leads to a good image for pictures. Of course, the optics still matter, so there is room to mess it up.
When away from "mains"? I bet dollars to doughnuts that half the kiddies that read this site have no idea what that means..
Naa, they probably watch TopGear. Now "bodging" might not make any sense to them. I really miss junk yard wars.....
Really, "mains" isn't a complicated word/meaning. My little brother is only 4 and he knows what that is.
I am 13 and I have known what mains means since I was old enough to know not to put your finger in a socket. Also, barry99705, Top Gear is a really good show.
This will be so cool when it comes out, and so I'm saving up for it now.
Darn, doesn't look like it has vga, would make an awesome netbook companion.
this has iEye written all over it.
lol, I think your onto something about kids not knowing "away from the mains". I wasn't raised on Dora the Explorer, but I damn well knew what a backpack was. So I blame new age cartoons.
For 99 dollars, id buy one. Heck yes. So what if its 640x480? For $99 how can you argue.
Definitely getting one of these for ma psp. now I can play annoying videos wherever I go. that and porno.
I hope it's HD compatible. I want to use it with my Blu-ray disc player.
Good luck with that, most HD movies will show up as SD or less.
He was joking.
don't be so sure.....
Eyes are made to capture light, not project it.
eyes is zee ztuff zat pengwinz zlip on.
.....
if it does at least 640 x 480, I'll take one for sure!
