LG's G910 watchphone to cost £1,000?

Know what comes with exclusivity? Price gouging. Word has it that Orange's little European exclusive on LG's touch-screen G910 watchphone with HSDPA data will result in a £1,000 / €1,144 price per. That directly translates to about $1,500 but, as these things generally go, it will likely be priced closer to $1,000 (without tax) whenever it lands Stateside. With contract, however, you'll be handing over £500 and then £40 per month for what we suspect will be the next two years. Such is the life of the early adopter.

With all the warnings not to put your phone in your pocket or to use something to shield some of the radiation, is it a smart idea to keep your phone strapped to your wrist constantly?
You don't have any vital reproductive organs sitting next to your wrist do you.
Well, most of the time at least
i usually keep my phone down south and put it on vibration and wait for that surprise call. if any of my future kids are born with three arms now i'll know why...
"You what comes with exclusivity?" wtf.
Thank you for correcting it.
I dont think Orange will be selling many of these then, what a ridiculous price to set it at.
It'll become PRADA Wristphone.
You'd be surprised what people pay for things...
Watchphone.............£1000
Talking to your wrist and looking like a massive douche / CIA wannabe..........Priceless
You guys obviously haven't looked at how the watch industry works if you're complaining about a $1000 dollar watch.
No one cares about the quality of the watch, it's the phone, and that's a high price for any phone.
What it is is a fashion symbol.
@Macca: "No one cares about the quality of the watch, it's the phone, and that's a high price for any phone."
Sarig has a point. If you look at this watch and at any of the myriads of watches out there with lots of complications (features in addition to keeping time), the features, despite being functional, are almost always there for the sake of augmenting the sex appeal of the watch itself.
Ditto with this one: it's not a phone; it's a fashion accessory like every watch to have preceded it.
Fashion accessory? You made me chuckle.
This 'thing' should not be mentioned in the same sentence as the word 'fashion', except with the negation 'not'.

A fine mechanical or automatic watch will retain its value over time (no pun intended).
This phone watch is a gadget, and its value will drop in a few years.
It is not a high end watch (this is no Patek Philippe or IWC) it is an LG cell phone.
But, is anyone does have a thousand pounds and wants to get one as a gift for me, I will be so gracious as to accept the gift.
This will probably be a collectors item in the future.
To Be Honest.... would anyone really find this phone useful? It would be annoying after a few days.
Doesn't even look that good, sharp metal edges?
If i may be so bold.
I'd use it to jog, we got alligators and other predators here in the Everglades. A 911 could prove useful.
you're clearly missing the fact that it has a frickin' CALCULATOR!
Actually, thinking about it, if it has a built in TV remote.... I will defiantly buy!
definitely
those SHARP METAL EDGES are ninja stars that the wrist can fire. ninjas are going to be all over these.
Well sometimes you have to pick your battles. Is this really worth an early adoption? I don't know. Besides it'd be savvy to let others face the jury before I have to.
Check out this phones features
http://ilearn.amorphous.net/2009/02/3g-touch-watch-phone-lg/
the features are amazing, but i must still admitt $1000 is pricey
I suspect the contract will be 18months, 2 year contracts aren't that common in the UK....
I'd think about this: paired with a Mid (4~5"screen) & probably some wireless earpiece. There's a limit to screen size on the smart phones to be still comfortable as a phone and large enough to use the smart part.
LG could have branded it on behalf of some well known watch maker and produce various finishings (yes the internal stays the same) and it might actually do better than Vertu.
£1,000! HAHAHA! I just fell off my chair laughing!
If it came free on contract it still wouldn't sell.
No, no and no.
I wouldn't wear this if they gave it to me.
Watches can be expensive because they're sleek and sexy, this looks like a hump of garbage.
Oh please, it's not price gouging if people are willing to pay it. And you know some rich pricks will.
I have two question:
a) idle and talk time
and
b) how can you charge it?.
Whaaat? I thought the economy was tanking; who is going to buy $1,000 watch?
$1500 pre-contract for that? no thanks.
For $130 you could buy this

What's that? a piñata wrist watch?
Only took some decades, but we're finally getting closer to Dick Tracy technology!
Nice watch. See you when your marketing guys finally wakes up from their drug-induce mental state.
I hope they don't make you tell time with those silly coded dots.
for that price, i might as well buy a real watch. maybe if it hits $200 and it's well reviewed.
Bluetooth, so you don't look like a douche,
Voice Recognition for menu navigation and calls,
Text to Speach (TTS) reads out aloud text messages and on screen displays
1.43 inch Touch Screen display on a impressive Flash interface
MP3 player,
video conferencing with built in camera,
Text messaging
3G HSDPA 7.2Mbps (making it the smallest 3G phone),
Quadband network connectivity
2GB memory
GPS capability with TTS turn-by-turn
That's worth $500 on a two year contract... the touchscreen and video conferencing, plus future GPS support, make it awesome.
Psssh. Call me when they have ringphones.
