Mini microphone spruces up voice recording possibilities on iPhone / iPods
Not that this is the very first microphone designed to function with Apple's iPhone or anything, but it's certainly amongst the cheapest and most universal that we've seen. The Mini Microphone reportedly plays nice with the iPhone 3G, iPod touch and iPod nano, giving 'em all that extra special voice recording oomph that's so badly needed. The best part(s)? It's only $14.99, and it's barely bigger than a valve stem cover to boot.

Ipod Touch VOIP?
Wondering if its possible with Fring on iPhone/ iTouch.
It is possible with Fringe. You can use Skype, Yahoo, MSN, etc. Only over Wifi of course, in order to protect the man.
I might be missing something here but I see the point of having this for iPod but iPhone users could spend like £2 and download one of the many, many apps that do voice recording via the built-in mic, no? Really, am I missing something?
(no points for anybody that says stupid crap like "yeah, you're missing a nut, Adolf".
I'm so glad that was the first post, i would have been upset if i had to post something about iPod Touch VoIP, this late in the life of the post.
It will def work with iPod Touch G2, but what about G1 users? I think I remember reading somewhere that the Touch G1 cannot use microphones ... and all of the VoiP apps say they will only work with iPhone and iPod Touch G2.
This microphone can work with all mobile phones that have the new standard 4-conductor headset jack, not just the iPhone and iPod Touch (which happened to be the first with this standard). Infact, the newer Nokias are now becoming equipped with this jack rather than the Nokia "pop-port" clip-on connector. The same may hold true for other newer mobile phones.
iphones already have mics?
I was thinking the same thing... LOL
And, as evidenced by someone actually spending their time on this product, legions of blind followers and one of the most limited development environments found on any device, anywhere.
Not only can it be used with iThings...but with laptops which do not have built-in mics. Just plug it in and forget it...nice.
well not all the time, the jack has to support a mic being plugged into it.
How many laptops with built-in speakers DON'T have a microphone/line in port?
@bolezhinkov:
Well...let me make it clear...there are laptops out there which do not have a built-in mic but have an audio-in (read mic) port. So...this tiny little thing with a standard 3.5mm jack can be inserted into the pink-marked audio-in port.
I would lose that in about 5 seconds.
Think it would work on original iPhone with a headphone plug adapter?
That headline is so off. The iPhone already have a built-in Mic for recording (it's a phone?). Currently there are other Mics out for the iPods and iPod Touch for recording. I have a Philips for my iPod Touch that was only $10 at Target.
That Mic does look very nice and small though!
i know that this mic is great for VoIP on Touch (i also doubt it has any advantage for iPhone), but what i do not know is how can i use it on nanos. Is there e.g. any sollution to use it as a phone, to use it as voice recorder etc?
Website says that it's compatible with iTouch 2G - Does anyone have this / use it with a first generation?
I belive 1st Generation iPod Touch doesn't have support microphone via headphone plug. Sorry you are out of luck...
@Bratan - I believe that is correct because all of the VoiP apps in the Store say they require an iPhone or an iPod Touch G2.
do they ship to romania?
Obviously the iPhone uses it for stereo recording.
Supposing for a moment that were possible, it would sound horrible. The physical shape and audio qualities of different microphones color the sound they record, which is why you want identical microphones for stereo recording.
But then I suppose you could have been sarcastic.
I also suppose you're right. Sorry I forgot to add my /s tag
Hold on...
For people with ipod touches/nano's, if you use this thing, how can you listen to anything? Does it have a speaker socket/adapter? I have a headphone with mic attachment which I use with my ipod touch, that works alright, but I can't see how this will work concurrently with sound?
I think while this is plugged-in, you will have to do away with those crappy speakers of iPhone/ iTouch.
you sir are an idiot this device is not made for the apple fanboy who will cry an emo cry when they hear they cant also listen to there music. its for students and professionals who need a voice recorder but dont want to carry 2 devices.
So, iPhone doesn't even have a solid mic built-in?! o_O
14 Eur. for what !!!
I wonder why they advertise it only for iPods. It seems like it can be used on any player with a 3-ring jack.
Most non-apple mp3 players have a built-in mic. Nothing to lose, no extra charge. How backwards is that?
Great! Now all you need is an extension cable and clip to convert it into a Lapel Microphone.
Does Apple still gimp the recording quality?
Doesn't work with the iPod Touch 1G, which would have been the only reason I'd buy this... >_>
I made one of these last night. Actually pretty easy to do.
You can't use this for voip for the ipod touch. It's just a mic, not a headset.
You also can't use this as a regular mic unless the device you're plugging into supports a 3-ring headset type mic.
Dear Apple,
Integrate mics and a voice recording app into your iPods.
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Everyone
What store could I fine this mini Mic?
Since it was inexpensive, I bought one of these mini-mics. I have an iPhone Edge. While the voice clarity does seem to be better, the volume level is still incredibly low, almost too low to be usable even when held within six inches of the sound source.
