Looks like that
red Resident Evil 5 Xbox 360 bundle wasn't just some tripped out figment of your imagination. Just moments ago, the package popped up for Xbox Live subscribers, detailing a handsome red Xbox 360 Elite with a 120GB hard drive,
Resident Evil 5,
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, and a few other odds and ends (like a handful of cables). There's an indication that you can pre-order the kit, but at this point, we're not aware of any place to follow through. We'll keep our eyes peeled, of course.
Update: According to the German press release we just received, the limited edition bundle will hit Europe on March 13th for €299 --
likely $399 Stateside. Gallery updated with official press pictures.
Update 2: Boom! Pre-order at
Best Buy for $399. [Thanks, Ivan]
Oh snap that is hot. Both in design and during operation. Want plz, I need something to match my limited edition controller...
Is this the first Elite model with the JASPER chipset?
Just like the cold war era Red Phone, this "device" is intended for direct and quick resolutions of conflicts & war-affairs between the US and Russia in the virtual battlefields of cyberspace.
red... not for me.
Me either. I was planning on skipping RE5 anyway.
I'd settle for an regular black Elite with the Jasper chipset. Any chance of that happening sometime soon?
Agreed.
This couldn't possibly match anyone's TV or components...why would one want it to stick out so much?
To paraphrase Robin Williams, one could do wonders for the Red Xbox with a nice coat of fire.
Well... http://www.zettavolt.co.uk/images/news/A656.jpg
But it's perfect - when you eventually get your RROD, it will blend right in with the case.
ugh. I'm tired of reading the RROD jokes, and constant FIRST and Does it play crisis comments. They were funny a year or two ago. let's let those die, or at the very least ask engadget to auto post a first comment that says watch out for RROD and if it plays crisis to get it over with in the first post...
maybe even state PS3 is the best and Apple sucks and what ever other constant comment happens on a daily basis.
Sorry but RROD jokes will never, ever get old. This RROD colored 360 takes it to another level. Somebody at MS has a sense of humour unlike some people posting here.
@gfar
I have a Samsung ToC TV. This would match it perfectly, along with the red wall that is behind it.
so how do you tell you have a red ring of death if the whole things is red???
well, when the lights flash red...
nice attempt at a funny but your post matched your name lol
OMG, it's an XBox, but, like, RED! Brilliant Microsoft!
Seriously Engadget, are you really that excited?!
You should have used CAPS if you really that excited about it.
Now go clean up that mess in your pants.
Even though I love the look of the [original] 360, I would seriously consider a stereo rack type styling of it. Like one that would fit perfectly into other stereo equipment. Why don't they do this?
My guess is that there wouldn't be enough demand to offset the cost of retooling the manufacturing line. If you're the handy type your idea would make for a pretty slick case mod.
I con only think of bad things when I think red and XBox...
*can
No, you had it right the first time.
more like "Red-sident Evil 5!!"......
terrible i know
We're gonna have to throw you in the PUN-itentary.
I'm wondering if that red limited edition Elite comes with the graphic chip die shrink Jasper (65nm) like the 360 Arcade models from late '08? I'm only waiting for those to come out before getting a 360 console...
is this like a project red thing in an attempt to overturn the RE5 racism thing?
Yes, red is the new black....
That's a good question. If it is, I doubt it'd do much good since the game is also sold separately from the console, so those who are likely to scream racism (e.g. the media) will focus entirely on the game and not the bundle.
I'm kind of sick of the Project RED products. It's not the cause that I don't appreciate, it's that everything has to be colored red. I don't need to show off to people how much I care about social issue X by displaying the marker everywhere, so why not collect more money from sales by making all versions (or colors) of product line Y give a portion to the charity instead of making the garrish looking one the only option? I'm not usually too picky about aesthetics since I strongly believe form follows function, but I prefer neutral colors when possible because I find them less distracting iin my periphery.
I think it'd be a better PR move if Microsoft (or Motorola, or any other company who's on the bandwagon) made it public knowledge that all 360 (or Razr, etc. etc.) purchases had a portion going to the cause, and the red one is just a special option to commerate their involvement or for those who either like the color or want to show their support publicly (as public as a gaming console can be...).
I don't think a color change is the best and most desired improvement to the console.
WOW!
/sarcasm
If Microsoft keep the lights Green. We could call it the Xmas-Box.
I've been waiting on getting a 360... this "might" persuade me to finally get one.
I'll just wait for the price to drop. $250 elite and I'm sold. I know that's a while off, but I can wait. Besides...they only get cheaper as time goes on.
braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaains........
My main complaint is not that this is an ugly color but that it does not match the Resident Evil theme in any way whatsoever. Toy Story maybe, but a survival horror edition hardware in circus red?
You must don't remember the limited edition Resident Evil Sega Dreamcast... 'twas red as well.
hope they start bundling this with other games later on
i want one with cod mw2... and i'll get rid of my premium
great way of hiding those RRoD's!
HAHAH TOTALLY THOUGHT THE SAME THING !!!
Now you can hide your red ring for a limited time!
HAHAH I THOUGHT THE EXACT SAME THING FOR THOSE XBOX FANBOYS!!! HAHAH
Finally, a special game-themed bundle 360 that actually bundles the actual game, unlike the stupid Halo 3 360. MS should do this more often in the US.
Cue in more red-ring jokes.
You've got to hand it to Microsoft: When they can't think of anything original or they want to breath life in to a product, they change its color... Wow, pure genius.
what? nearly every console made comes out in different colours, ps2, gamecube,xbox,n64,ds,gameboy just to name a few so its not that they can not breath new life into it, its that they are realesing it in a different fucking colour.
To Answer Your Question, L4M3
You get GRoD instead of RRoD
WOW! HOLY SHIT!, because this is totally the place for that.

@Tim,
Yea, 'cause Sony hasn't changed the colors of just about everything it's released. How many colors does the PSP come in? Come to think of it, Nintendo does the same thing. How many colors does the DS come in?
"Come to think of it, Nintendo does the same thing."
Dude, no coming to think of it on that. Nintendo invented releasing different colors of its systems way back with the gameboy pocket (or maybe even the gameboy brick, someone want to fact check that?). Every subsequent handheld Nintendo system, the N64, and the Gamecube all had different color versions. Only reason they haven't done it for the Wii yet is because they can't keep the things on the shelf long enough to spray paint.
ye the original gameboy came in quite a few colours:)
Nice red color to go with the red rings you'll end up with.
