Sony puts the kibosh on Go!Messenger for PSP
Well, kids -- if you've been using Sony's Go!Messenger service (all three of you), we have some sad news. It looks like the company will be putting the brakes on the thing, citing lack of consumer interest. "Although Go!Messenger brought innovative communications features to the PSP community, the service has not developed the base of users" Sony was hoping for, reports GameIndustry.biz. The party's over on March 31st of this year.[Via mocoNews]

If they'd bothered to provide access to popular messenger services like Skype, Windows Live and Yahoo then maybe people will have actually used it!
the ppl who have proper working psps(homebrew kind) have tons of messenger programs to choose from that let them do just tthat. probably another reason this one failed.
They do have skype, although a crippled client; I'd hope that if they rolled out the camera and keyboard stateside, they'd follow it up with a software update to use those features.
Anyway, this news is mainly for the european market, so it doesn't really affect me in the slightest.
I use AIM and Windows Live.
While I would think Sony and Microsoft porting Messenger to the PSP might be a little defficult, AIM should be on everything.
I didn't even know this existed... I'm still having issues with Skype not logging me in as online status but yet I can use it to call people...
You losers still using PSP?
didn't you hear the iPhone is a mobile gaming console AND whoopie cushion....
PSP can't play monkey balls AND poop... get with the times man!
PSP has tactile controls, plays many A1 games. Your comparison to an almost-buttonless device with 'interesting for 10 seconds'-games is amusing, at best.
This was meant to be sarcastic, right?
BEN!, I sure as hell hope so...granted I don't even touch my PSP any more but still
@tekdroid
please dont feed the trolls :)
This is Europe only, right? Sony can only blame themselves, releasing services only in certain regions. Where's the GPS for US?
Well, yes, the Go!messenger, powered by BT (that's british telcom) was released into the european market.
it will never come stateside, nor will the camera
my metal gear solid: portable ops is still waiting for that darn GPS
Well, the the PSP in general is not built for messaging or talk by default.
If we look at messaging, it's always been a bit of a nightmare without some sort of keyboard. A touchscreen like the DS would make a world of difference to speed and usability.
I installed Go!Messenger a while back. They kept themselves limited to EU users (of which I am not). How is that agreement really conducive to worldwide communication, anyway? Overall, I hope Sony got some nice $$ out of the deal, but I can't say it made any sense to me, as a regular Joe. Seemed very niche and unusual from the start.
Skype also took me by surprise, but who knows what they got out of deals like that. All the while Sony haven't bothered supporting any open source codecs, which would make their system so much better and cost them nothing in additional royalties...

Sony, anybody home?
jezzus christ on a chocolate Popsicle !! honestly is it to hard to make the
"keyboard" for the ps3 controller compatible w/ the psp ?
im sure if i had a relativity good keyboard i would be "messaging" more on the damn thing!
And I was one of the three! Damnit!
now they are removing features from the PSP? sad considering the PSP is holding their boat afloat.
This comment is just a test. Nothing to see here....move along.
They need to get AIM on that thing..bet it will sell then..
Motorstorm Arctic Edge! Wooooo!
queue anarchy in the UK...
...not
i wonder if this has anything to do with the wall wireless lawsuit????
That's too bad this never really took off. They really should have used a more popular messenger... like AOL or something...
Sony needs to stop messing about and just get Skype ported to the PS3 & its camera. The hardware would easily handle it. And I'd never need a landline again.
lol.. Sony has a fine sense of.. öööö... :D
touchscreen PSP comes pretty soon.. if they don't take this step, they can bury PSP-4000 ..-5000 ..-18000
Well....
The reason that I don't buy PSP is limited storage.
The memory stick has storage of maximum 4GB only right?
So, if I want to put lots of musics that I have more than 4GB, I simply can't!!!!!
That's first reason that I don't buy PSP.
And about the instant message stuffs, they should have put AIM, Yahoo Messenger and Windows Live Messenger.
If Sony had been doing it, the number of people using PSP would have increased, I think.
