AT&T Quickfire could overheat, spontaneously burst into irony if charged incorrectly

Follow the break for AT&T's email to customers.
Please take special care when charging your Quickfire GTX75 mobile phone. There have been a few reports of significant overheating of the phone when the AC Charger adapter is inserted incorrectly and forced into the phone.
The clearly marked, embossed arrow on the AC Charger adapter should always be face-up on the same side as the display screen of the Quickfire when it is inserted into the phone. See the diagram below for proper positioning and insertion of the AC Charger adapter into the phone. You should never force the AC Charger adapter into the phone.
If you have any questions, please call 1-800-801-1101.
Sincerely,
AT&T

great... i bought my son one of these things. thankfully, he's smart enough to know how to treat it. but still a bit unnerving.
It's a feature. Tell him it has the new Optional Spontaneous Combustion Mode (OSCM).
They catch on fire when you get your AT&T bill.
You should of read my comment here:

Before going ahead with that purchase....
as long as you dont hold it by your chest while trying to force the plug in, you should be safe...er.
Now it looks like a Toshiba Qosmio notebook!
i already told my friend who had one of these that he was flaming.
O, you mean Steve Carlesi, lead singer of Foundry?
Grr..
lib lib
oh! a gay joke, how clever you must be!
Hahahaha be careful what you name your products!
If you have any questions, please call 1-800-801-1101.
This sounds like their asking for burnt ears.
"Hello, um, when should I force the AC charger adapter into my phone?"
"Never."
"Ok, thanks!"
THEY'RE!!!
Sorry mike, I'll try harder next time.
Grammar Nazis...
That number is for Warranty, which we were told in CSP that the Quickfire would be replaced with the Samsung Propel... I think some customers are gonna be a little upset about that..
That's hot
Dohoho.
Somewhere in the world, a geek feels he has made a good joke..
Dont be fooled
He has not.
I admit, I laughed.
it's "hawt" in Hiltonese.
Who the heck makes a symetrical plug that is polarity dependant that can be plugged in more than one way? taper a side...user pins to align it...something.
Even it's slightly asymetrical...but can be forced? that's just a bad design...really.
What just like the new MicroUSB can?
But in that case you just break the connector

MicroUSB is D shaped...
Article title ftw.
Where's the big green + button for ranking articles up? :)
That title is so full of win. +1
The titled choked me up. Great work, Chris. :)
haha now thats ironic to the max, your quickfire will burst into flames as soon as your charge it, make sure you pack extra batts!
This gets my nod for Headline of the day.
quick fire indeed!
The absolute best headline I've ever seen.
Puns... too much... brain... overloading... must... crack... one-liner...
OH NO!! help him!! somebody, quick!! close his browser window, he's dying!!! :(
and I thought that was supposed to happen from the speed of AT&T's 3G
fire sale?
Arrested Development?
Although i hope it doesn't explode on someones leg...
I LOL'd at the epic name irony :)
Explode on someone's leg...tell that to the little girl in texas who's phone exploded in her jean pocket in the middle of the street a few years back...yay for faulty charges and unstable Li batteries, people are too stupid for advanced technology...
Technically it's not ironic. Ironic would have been if it was named the extinguisher or CoolAsIce or something. I still LOLed at the title, and I don't LOL for just anybody!
Coincidental, yes. Ironic, no - more of the Alanis Morissette type of ironic.
I still laughed at the title too..
Guess that explains why they pulled them.
someone i dont like has this :)
no it's not mario. we go way back.
"You keep using that word. I Don't think it means what you think it means"
Inconceivable!
Do you have 6 fingers?
CraigJ=Winner of the internet
I'm all for truth in advertising...but THIS is ridiculous.
Pa-dum-pum.
Oh man, the irony in all this is just too good to be true! I mean, not only do you have the name "Quickfire" but it has "blazing" 3G speeds. Oh man, I have a friend that just got one of these, its time for some gay jokes.
OK,
Your avatar is gay...
There...
Hit Alt+F4 stat!
I have a month and a half old Quickfire. It's the damn plug. The top half is like a millimeter smaller than the bottom half and it's ridiculously hard to figure out which side goes in which way.
"The clearly marked, embossed arrow on the AC Charger adapter should always be face-up on the same side as the display screen of the
Quickfire when it is inserted into the phone."
Also.. he side that doesn't have to be forced in >_>...
I could replace my old shaver
The irony...........IT BURNS!!!!!!
can someone do this and upload a youtube video of it? i'd watch that over and over again
im on fire im on fire.... Mayday mayday mayday... im on fire!!!!!!!!!
Shouting will make you use up available oxygen at a faster rate than otherwise and you will thus begin breathing in dangerous poisonous smoke earlier. I suggest you relax, try not to take breaths and enjoy the view as your life flashes past you. And try to protect your jaws, it makes dental identification by the coroners easier. Thank you.
:)
I am curious what AT&T's diagram for proper positioning looks like. Mostly I'm curious how idiot-proof the diagram actually is.
Indeed-- I rather wish engadget had included the diagram, since there isn't a read link to follow...
Why couldn't they design a plug which was clearly polarized, or even better just use four fucking diodes in a bridge so it can charge regardless of the supply polarity.
Oh the Irony !!!
that's not kool...
Honestly I cant stand these things... the damn phone overheats and when you call the stupid people dont even speak english .. I think they all want us to spontaniously combust. I hope they refund all of our money... lets start a damn petition
