Nokia 5800 XpressMusic now for sale at flagship stores
Yep, the North American version of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is now on sale for $399 at the flagship store in NYC, just as we'd heard. (Chicago doesn't seem to have them yet but we're sure that'll change soon.) Sure, you've been able to score a $349 Euro unit for a while now, but for an extra 50 bones the NAM version does US 3G on AT&T, and we know you like that 3G action. Still no word on ship dates for those of you that pre-ordered online, but we'll see what we can find out when we head down to the local to pick this bad boy up.

Update: As of 4:30 Eastern, neither the New York nor Chicago stores are actually giving up the goods yet, though we have reason to believe that the 5800s are physically in the stores. Trying to lead up to some manufactured hype, perhaps?

so will It replace my iPod????
Depends which one.
I bought it at Hong Kong for USD $550, that is 38,000HKD.
I meant about 38,00HKD.........
Finally... now release it to retail and online stores for the rest of us far from a flagship store
Why does it have a guitar pick on it?
Stylus for the resistive touchscreen
Why, why? The Plectrum. The most amazing invention of all time. It functions as a stylus. But wait- there's more- it can live forever in the box in which it came, only to be shown during future eBay auctions to guarantee that all accessories are included.
Why isn't the question you should be asking. You should be asking yourself if you're enough of a rockstar to handle it!
it comes pre-installed with Guitar Hero style game
a touchscreen version of this

the pick is just used as a stylus though.
Nice!
Looking forward to having a play around with the new S60!
Sort of off topic but does anyone know if at&t's 3g in philadelphia is at 1900 bandwith? (versus 850)... Thanks in advance
Cool.
the hell is a flagship store again?
It's a store that sells flags for ships... Obviously.

UPDATE :
The online pre-orders shipped today. I had ordered one the first day the pre-order page showed up and I have change in order status to 'shipped today'.
Damn, mine is showing "Backordered" :(
Ugh, me too. Really sucks knowing there's boxes of this thing sitting in their stores right now when I pre-ordered it about a week ago.
yayayayayay
What's with the guitar pick?
it comes pre installed with a touch screen version of this game

Which S60 feature pack level is this one running?
Symbian S60 5th edition.
Please, do not buy this phone. it has 100% of the marriage! In Russia people try to return money for this piece of shit
http://eldarmurtazin.livejournal.com/323557.html
I mean defect! :)
Really?
I thought that it had sol over 250,000 in Russia alone?
In other words: Fuck off and take your spam with you.
Mark Anderson, you stupd?
defect speaker http://mynokia.su/faq/1690-ustranenie-problemy-s-dinamikom-v-5800.html
Not stupid enough to link to a blog in Cyrillic.
Incidentally 'nokia 5800 defective' gives no hits on Google News. Which is not to say there aren't defective units because - like every other large scale phone issue - there are. Just that it's not endemic.
this is links with complaints of Russian users.
If you know nokia start selling 5800 in Russia first and Russian users already have bad experience.
the defect will reveal itself in ~two months on all phones!
bad speaker
So you're saying that all 5800 speakers will defect in two months?
*Checks web*
Nope, not seeing it.
I've had one of these for two weeks now and my biggest complaint is the headphone jack. So far I've only been able to use the headphones that Nokia provides and they are awful!
Not with you, chief. Works fine with my Skull Candy, Sennheiser and Creative headphones.
You might want to switch the unit as your socket sounds goosed.
this is not bad headphone jack, problem in speaker! read above
This is the earpice problem that affected early models and which has now been fixed, right?
You know, the same problem that can be fixed by either taking the phone to a Nokia centre or just popping the case with the plectrum, flipping the chip and straightening the wires? You know, like a trained monkey could do?
Stop whining. Seriously.
Nokia doesn't fix this, they prefer replace your earpice and in 2 months you will get this problem again

Hello? Which part of 'faulty batch, not endemic' are you struggling with?
"...we head down to the local to pick this bad boy up..."
Pick? PICK?!?
*groans*
If that pun was unintentional, I'll eat my hat.
:)
i want it
That's the most elegant stylus solution I've seen.
It also has a standard stylus slotted in the back, but I normally just use my thumb/s with mine.
I got mine last week. Best 199€ I've ever spent :) And the Guitar Rock Tour game is awesome!
I'll wait for the literally-hot-as-fire-but-not-actually-as-hot-as-physical-fire N97, thank you very much!
I don't get it !,why is n95 8gb still the same prize ?
a lot of people have problem with the earpiece volume fluctuating up down. its best to check for it before you buy.

This has been fixed. Check the batch number on the phone.
The ones retailing in the US will not have this defect which only affects a small number of 5800's.
I guess they copied Apple all too well :)
Yeah, they copied the iPhone's video recording capabilities, the ability to run multiple apps, turn by turn navigation, data tethering, flash in the web browser, a flash for the camera, TV out, the iPhone's 640x360 resolution, and probably a few I'm forgetting...
I'm waiting for the N97 NAM to replace my aging E71.
