Yay TN panel.
But it's all sci-fi-ish 'n stuffs!
indeed. TN panels are crap compared to PVA, but I guess most people can't tell the difference, and are swayed more by the lower response time & price. I, for one, will be hanging onto my old Dell 2407WFP until OLED grows up in a few years.
DEATH before giving up my 2407WFP!
Hi , i need a bit of help and clarification of possible. I do need a new LCD monitor.... and i do know that TN is not that good for viewing angles. But in my case, viewing angles are not a problem at all because i will be watching it straight on so is there any other downside to a TN panel ? sorry if my English is not good , it is not my first language.
Bad color reproduction.
If you're using it for regular web surfing etc. TN is fine.
I didn't like the color of LCD... atleast they should match the black with the black gloss of casing...
@dhruv bhutani
Get a TN, the advantages outway the disacvantages compared to a IPS or PVA panel. Like Giga says it has worse colour reproduction, but it is perfectly acceptable for everything unless you work on images as a profession. Viewing angles are also not that bad, mine has 170 horizontal and 160 vertical, there is no real world situation where it would be viewed at those angles.
So I will elaborate on the other question as I have a similar one.
TN Panels are said to have bad color, etc, but I primarily use my desktop for 3 things.
1) Gaming
2) Surfing
3) Watching Movies - Note these are DIVX/VXID usually and not HD or anything.
So is a good TN OK?
Do the lower response times with TN translate into any visible difference when gaming?
@Casper42
I have a 2408wfp and a e248wfp both of which I use for the same things you said. The color reproduction is VERY different, and altought i only used it while sitting on my desk the viewing angles bother me if I lay back in my chair. It's extremely nice to watch the 2408wfp (PVA), the image is bright and extremely clear, but if I couldn't buy the 2408wfp I wouldn't have died either, I guess it all depends on how much you want to spend, I recommend you save a little longer and buy a GREAT LCD which will last for years than buy cheap and get cheap.
ive been researching this monitor plus Studio XPS 435 all day today since my dad was planning on getting the Studio XPS.
i can tell you it costs $280 as an addition to a desktop setup, so standalone i'd guess it'll cost around $300.
I like the way Dell is moving. They are starting to make computers that are much more visually appealing. They're old stuff was just...bleh.
yeh seriously. the XPS line as a whole looks great. Studio line plus Adamo are also great additions.
Speaking of "old stuff" . . .

Good job, Dell.
@Smart People Play Tuba
what???
Sorry, I should've changed the "it" to "[the F-14 Tomcat]."
I was just flummoxed as to why Dell would put a photo of a de-commissioned, albiet awesome, jet fighter on the screen for a press photo.
Why does it look like a Mac Pro is hiding under there?
HAHA you're funny...not.
because anything with holes in it looks like a mac pro to morons
Flamebaiting is fun.
*makes dumb comment*
*gets called out on dumb comment*
"Flamebaiting is fun."
if you were actually flamebaiting you wouldn't have pointed it out
also, making dumb comments will get you called dumb? no shit, that doesn't make you the pinnacle of wit buddy
@Uncontrol
even an ahole?
1000:1 dynamic contrast? wonder how low it is for static
shame Dell didn't stuff one of their better LCDs into this one, and what's with the 10 at the end, we're barely into 2009
hmmm...the desktop is very mac pro esk with the holes and the pseudo handle thing....and the display looks like, wait you guessed it, a cinema display with its black border, webcam, and base design. Funny how dell only seems to make apple designs worse.
it doesn't resemble either of those items you moron
the "pseudo-handle" is a front-vent, and an LCD with a black border on it is nothing new
Uncontrol is stupid
Another 16X9 even though it's 22" for 1080p it's still a downgrade and I hope this trend doesn't last.
No kidding. What is up with all these new 1080p resolution monitors? Isn't XPS gaming oriented? How many games support that resolution. When they game doesn't support that resolution, the gamer has to use another res and it won't look anywhere close to as good as it could at the LCD's native res.
What are you talking about? 22" 1920x1080 is awesome. So you miss out on 120 vertical pixels, it's still the highest resolution 22" LCD you're going to find.
Have you seen a S2409W on display, @1080 it's pretty small. Now imagine on a 22, it's going to be hard to read for some of the older people. I usually like my display to be easily eligible, such as 1440x900 on 19", 1920x1050 on 22".
What would've been sweet was putting in that E-IPS panel from their new 22in.
Does it come with the plane?
Uh... I want PVA panel since I have to deal with images :(
(And my Unibody MacBook screen is... bad.)
Sorry for my poor English as I'm not a native speaker :)
Oh, this monitors looks so nice :)
I hope there will be a 24 inch version of this monitor.
quick question
i will be getting a new desktop (windows 7)... i want a tv which will be used for both desktop and xbox 360. 32 inch would be perfect, if i bought a top of the line 1080p panasonic tv will resolution be ok for the pc display, all i use it for is surfing the net
thanks
This is dependent on your PC's graphics card. I only have experience with NVidia cards, but that experience has been good. They have good video drivers for TV Out on Windows that lets you scale your desktop for overscan. Overscan is probably the main issue you will deal with when hooking up your PC to the TV.
I've had a Dell 2209WA (22") for two weeks. IPS panel for $299.00 Dell/business.
Interesting that they come out with this monitor after i buy an Asus 1080p LCD with similar specs.
Interesting that they also come out with a Core i7 system right after i build my own.
Sorry Dell, too slow on the draw and too much $$ for what you're offering for me this time around.
FYI There's a 25% coupon at slickdeals right now for that Studio XPS 435 (actually any Studio XPS desktop), I just used it. Scroll down the list of coupons under Dell. Also sickdeals has a lot of info on that 2209wa monitor for $212., with free shipping (search Hot Deals forum). I just got that also. Great monitor, great price.
