Good point. But now ask yourself what happens when your wife wants to drive and you're in the passenger side. What priority takes effect then?
priority is usually triggered by whoever is within a 2 feet radius of the car handle, therefore whoever gets to the handle to unlock the car will be given priority. (this is assuming the husband and wife don't both go for the driver door and sit in the driver seat together.)
