NVIDIA Ion to begrudgingly support Core 2 Duo by Q4?

It's easy to overlook amidst all PowerPoint-fueled fisticuffs but, in addition to slinging rebuttals at Intel and muttering insults under its breath, NVIDIA also appears to have dropped a bit of news about its next-generation Ion platform. While we had already heard that Ion 2 would be supporting VIA's Nano processor in addition to Intel's Atom, it looks like it'll also support Core 2 Duo processors, and even Pentiums and Celerons for good measure. That, of course, is not all that surprising given Ion's roots in NVIDIA's current MCP79M/MCP7A chipset platform, and there's certainly plenty of time for things to shake out further before that promised Q4 rollout date -- and, knowing these two companies, things probably will.

Assuming the size isn't to much bigger I could really go for a nice core 2 duo netbook
Yes, but the price would be quite higher. There's already several ultraportables at or near the size of netbooks with Core 2 Duo ULV processors though they still use Intel's graphics. Having Nvidia ION and a Geforce 9400M in a 11.1" Vaio TT for instance would be quite nice indeed.
Pentium still exists??? Wow...
indeed they do.
since all they are only low end C2D chips. (although, celeron might only be 1 core)
The Pentium brand has been reused and are basically Core 2 processors with less cache, slower speeds, and a reduced FSB. They are nothing like the old Pentium 4s.
Why does it have to support both? Isn't ION enough for mild gaming and processing
Ion itself is enough, but Atom sucks, I guess.
Pentium and Celeron. . .Why?
No, seriously. Why?
Core 2: awesome
Pentium: sort of awesome, cheaper
Celeron: dirt cheap, horridly slow.
Let me correct that for you:
Core 2: awesome
Pentium: sort of awesome, cheaper
Celeron: cheap, slower
Atom: dirt cheap, horridly slow
Im with mac404
I CAN'T WAIT for Nano with GOOD video! oh man....atom is gonna cry so much. Just wait.
Now i'm waiting to get a netbook with Ion and an Atom and a widescreen touchscreen :) :) :)
"Widescreen touchscreen" - has a nice ring to it
What's wrong with cheap laptop than can play TF2 quite well at 1280x800? I have a Vaio with an 8400M, the 9400M must be better by a bit.
All I want is a beautiful and portable netbook that can satisfyingly play Left4Dead and TF2 at 60fps at 1280x720. Can someone make that happen for me?
Makes sense, it seems like one of the big plays for the chip is for motherboard level graphics that support Vista, so slapping it into cheap motherboards with whatever processor. So OEMs can put together systems without dedicated graphics cards that fully support Aero in Vista and Windows 7. I suspect that's why Microsoft is throwing so much support at Ion. I think netbook support is kind of a bonus.
whats wrong with engadget..those are the old intel logos...they shoulda used the new ones in the pic!

They still make Celeron processors? Wow...
they have dual core ones now, apparantly they are quite fast when over clocked *shrug* who knew
Is it me or they are just talking talking talking but we never see any actual devices?
shit its long...
Isn't Ion just NVIDIA's 9400m G chipset combined with an Atom processor? As in the same 9400m G chipset in the Apple Macbooks etc?? Therefore doesn't it already support Core 2 Duo????? What am I missing here???
