DIY Paintball Turret unleashes wireless havoc at 34 rounds per second
The appeal of the Paintball Turret can pretty much be summed up in its inventor's own words: "It shoots things." What grabbed our attention, though, is just how sophisticated the contraption appears to be. Two years in development, Jared Bouck's turret fires 34 balls per second (per second!) and is designed to be carried as a backpack for rapid deployment. Invent Geek also claims that it can be controlled via heads-up display from up to half a mile away. Full plans and a material list are promised as is a video demonstration. Until then, you'll have to make due with the detailed assembly history just beyond the read link. This could change paint warfare and the tactics used by curmudgeonly neighbors to protect their lawns, forever.

o.O I want one!
Asta-la-vista, baby!
obviously we all want one BUT you've gotta ask:
When's all this going to end? - The Paintball Nuke?
Me too, very nice design! Though honestly, 34 bps (balls per second) isn't all that impressive. I believe the Angel Speed was capable of 30 bps a while ago, so it would seem that with a little timing adjustment to the trigger mechanism you should be able to achieve 60 bps.... not that I'd want 34 bps coming at me anyway lol
Pure awesomeness. Jared Bouck, I salute you.
BTW, 34rps is 2040 rpm. That's minigun speed. Insane.
and we really need to see it in a demo video!!!!
I think what we really need is to dress it up like a sentry in Portal and it will go perfectly with that gun replica we had a while back.
It fires faster than my Tippman A-5 haha...
Except it's not rotating.
Hi. I'm Johnny Knoxville and this is the paintball turret.
In true US Military style can it be set to target both the enemy and allies?
The Icon-E is not an autococker.
good call on using q-loaders for feed but i don't understand why he isn't running on compressed air and why it uses auto-cockers. meh...
Dunno about you, but i dont have the money to buy two compressed air tanks and angels for a turret.... however awesome it would be...
I bet it only last a full 10 seconds before your out of ammo; then you probably spend a minute reloading. So while pretty freakin cool it seems kind of useless.
q-loaders are actually really quick to reload, it's preloaded paint in those "tubes you see" it basically just twists into the holder, it's pretty genius

go to the 'swap' videos and you can get a feel for how quickly they change out.
one chopped ball and that thing's garbage.
Need a dispenser here.
"Sentry Down!"
"MEDIC!"
First thing I thought:
"Spy sappin' mah sentry!"
upgrade that baby to Level 3.. need some rockets!
What you really need is a paintball factory behind that thing. But i still want one!!!
hey thats good man, i want that
No way it shoots 34 BPS. Only fully electro-pneumatic guns would be able to reach 17 BPS, the guns he is using are electro-mechanical. Also, the type of gun he is using is extremely hard on paint, especially at higher rates of fire. That thing would turn in to a blender real quick.
with a pair of 'eyes' i think an autococker could do 17 bps, have you not seen any with e-blades?
but i agree that an electro-pneumatic marker, even something cheap like an old impulse or a shocker would have done much nice and looked better.
they've also gotten rid of the high pressure regulator which i don't understand because the velocity is going to be dramatically inconsistent...
wow i'm watching this one too much
it seems to me 17+17=34
mis-read sorry...
Why not use compressed air?
I would be an impressed to see an Ebladed Cocker actually get up to 17bps. 34bps isnt too shabby, especially because anything more would run through paint RIDICULOUSLY fast. Qloaders are *awesome*.
Q-loaders might be quick to reload, but that still doesn't detract from the fact that they have pretty small capacity when aiming for 34bps. I'm assiming that it's actually 17bps per marker as a 'cocker would just produce soup above 20. The Icon-Es are nice budget markers so probably a good choice for this sort or project, although a bunch of Ions or other budget marker would probably do. Still, I'd go with a better loading system, a couple of Halo-Bs would be relatively cheap these days and could easily be fed via a custom funnel to keep things going.
It looks sweet though :)
Sentry going Up!
You beat me to it :(
{insert every Engineer quote here}
I really need to start building a working dispenser replica when it gets warmer.
Sorry to bust your bubble guys but thats not very fast...any decent electro-pneumatic would wipe the floor with this junk electro mechanical setup:
for example, here is an SL74 cycling at 54 bps http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1ULxm6pBZo
and just a little fyi, just cus it can shoot fast doensnt mean it should be, usually they market "bps" to people that arent very knowledgeable on a the subject just to get them to buy one, the best thing to do is usually look around for a older used highend that you can buy on the cheap rather than dump the same amount on a new one. right now my DM7 is psp capped at 15bps and im completely happy with it :)
Well, this is just the level 2 sentry. Get 200 more metal, and you can upgrade it.
That spy's sappin' my sentry
Well I want one on my car and then when someone doesn't indicate for a lane change... @@
I'm scared that one day this paintball arms race will lead to the devastation of our planet.
Too bad Damon from Sceneriodreams already made up a few different projects that shoot just as fast. Including a mini gun and trion(3 ions linked together).
Just imagine your friend peeking around a corner you light him up with this gun. OUCH!
For this project...
Turret - 10,000 You = 0
Owned.
Just set up tracking with a huge HOPPER/LOADER that holds 20,000. When you play capture the flag and watch it go wild!
That is nothing, go check out Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman's Leonardo 2.0... 1,100 paintballs in under a second (80ms in fact)... and the Leonardo 1.0 computer driven turret isn't all that bad either, it has controllable shooting speed. Just look up CPU vs GPU, the Mythbuster's built two paintball guns (cannons?) for NVIDIA to demonstrate the differences between the two types of processors.
Pretty sweet piece of paintpower.....
This guy's tracks targets automatically and is for sale. Check out the video:

"There you are."
i hear it wipes if no one is watching
That should be measured in WPS = Welts Per Second.
I might actually stay alive with this thing.
Activating... Searching... Target Lost...
Video?
Last year I recorded 46 BPS with my Ion (Blackheart board+personal mod), unfortunately I had to spend nearly $100 the next day to get it repaired ;)
Yeah, no. Blackheart boards are capped at 20bps. If you said virtue or t-board or Lucky maybe. And the normal ion noid can't do that high, you would need the Mac noid from the Lucky stage 4.
Uh, anyone else seen The Jackal lately?
Because I would LOVE to shoot Jack Black with this.
YES! hold out your cigarettes! now say goodbye to your arm..
"I told you it was off." *continues gunning him down*
I like how in the write up on this thing that at the end of it he has a picture of what a youtube linked video should look like but its not a link.
There doesn't seem to be any video of it in action. I feel cheated.
They now have a full kit for sale on the last page of the project write up!
No idea how I missed this, but it is the tits. Can't wait to see a video demo.
