Sony expands Walkman line with NW-S738FK and NW-S736FK
Though not nearly as buzz-worthy as Sony's OLED-equipped NWZ-X1000, these two DAPs are still worth a look if you're both in Japan and really into pastels. The NW-S736FK and NW-S738FK only differ with respect to internal capacity, as the former carries 4GB worth of tunes while the latter hosts 8GB. Both will soon be available in the wonderful nation of Japan in gold, black, pink and red hues, and each will support MP3, WMA, ATRAC, WMV, MPEG-4, JPEG and AAC formats. You'll also find a 2-inch LCD, USB 2.0 connectivity, a 5 band equalizer, FM tuner and a battery good for 40 hours of audio playback (or 10 hours on the video side). The new duo is set to ship on March 14th, and yes, those perfectly matching speaker docks seem to be included for your convenience.

I think they're making the Walkman players look too much like their Walkman phones. If you can stuff a telephone and multi-band wireless radio and DSP into the exact same size body, then why are people considering buying the same device without the phone built-in? Who's going to buy this device?
No one, just like every other Walkman DAP made in the last few years.
do you really think the walkman telephone sounds like the walkman player?
anyone who cares about sound quality will buy a sony product. if you dont care about not so good telephone and not so good player, then go for an iphone
First of all, they are not the same size, the walkman phones are a lot thicker. The next issue to consider is sound quality, however something else to think about, and this is on Sony's side, is that none of the walkman phones at this point have a 3.5mm jack.... pretty essential if you do not want to pay for a proprietary dongle.
the red one is awesome
Whats the difference between this and S63x series?
the earphone only
Those speakers would never fit in to my pocket!
Those perfectly matching speaker docks seem to be included for your convenience and aural displeasure.
@ Replies to my OP:
The Walkman standalone player is a lot thinner than my 9mm thick W880i? Not likely. The W880i also weighs only 72 grams. It basically disappears into any pants pocket I use.
Also, the sound quality of the Sony players (when paired to $70-100 earbuds) is far better than output from my wife's 2nd-gen iPod and her 3rd-gen nano; this is consistent for the phone and the Walkman player.
No touchkiller here
how is there a speaker set like this available for walkman and I still can't get a decent alarm clock for my zune?
These are Japan only. Next.
