Windows 7 to get 2,000 bug fixes pointed out by testers
Microsoft has been a bit lax in communicating with beta testers of its Windows 7 operating system who have reported problems or bugs to the company -- according to some of the testers, anyway. Well, apparently they've been really busy! Steven Sinofsky, senior vice president for the Windows and Windows Live Engineering Group at Microsoft, has just directly addressed the issue of bugs in a blog post, noting some pretty astounding figures. First, he says that over 2,000 bugs will be fixed in the release version of Win 7 because of feedback from the over 10 million downloaders of the beta OS, which ended on February 10th. Sinofsky says that at peak times in January, Microsoft was receiving one feedback report every fifteen seconds for a week straight, and has, to date, gotten over 500,000 of them. He assures testers that the company reads and considers every email and comment received. Hit the read links to find his entire post, as well as an update detailing of some of the fixes that are on the way!

This is a bug related to the USB drivers it happens to multiple usb connected devices, probably on a the very top list, sent a bug report like the first day the beta was released with probably 5000 others. It is very common.
(I have the same resolution 1280x800 can't say I've seen that happen... just send a bug report or search google).
Holy shit...

Does anyone else have problems with their computer coming out of sleep where the mouse fails to work properly? Just wondering if it is specific to my hardware.
There's one just above yo... Oh wait, that's you as well.
Oh man, oh man oh man. Can't remember the last time I was so psyched about any upcoming MS product.
Cancel that, can't remember the last time I was so psyched about any upcoming product.
Steven Sinofsky is a really cool and funny guy! Had a chance to meet him at a demo he did at my school (Georgia Institute of technology) yesterday night. Windows 7 looks very promising, typing this from a Asus eeepc 1000H running windows 7 beta smoothly aside from my shortcut key(s) drivers being incompatible (fix it ASUS!)
Got to love Windows 7 and Microsoft's commitment to it.
Can't wait for retail version to it, already in beta form it's the best OS bar none.
Amen. +1
Looks like they learned from their Vista mistakes, there is no better way to squash bugs then to let millions of people try it out and examine every nook of the OS. That's gett'in sh!t done! good show.
Does anyone know why Microsoft doesn't consider doing the Expose style functionality where all the windows get spread out so you can see all your applications. Linux has it, Mac has it. In terms of functionality and efficiency, I think it is a must. What do you guys think? And do you know why they haven't implemented it yet?
They found 2000 bugs? Where?
"He assures testers that the company reads and considers every email and comment received."
Huh. So they read and considered my feedback which read "Don't embarrass yourself".
Fair enough.
Nothing like getting free QA testing from the user community :-)
Sorry to bring this up, but hasn't the iPhone app store 5 mil dl's in the past year? And MS just got 10 mil in less than a month? Nice....
I'm sorry, but this is a verry stupid remark. Those are two TOTALLY different things.
If Apple would present an OSX that runs on every pc and released a free beta, the numbers would surpass those of the appstore.
Not everything is free in there + there are way more pc's than iPhones in consumer hands.
Way to go, d**my
How many people are there in the world with a PC?
How many people are there in the world with an iPhone?
Question Answered.
@Mr. Mojo
Did you just bleep out the word "dummy"?
Where's my up-directory button? I don't want to hear shit about breadcrum either.
damn, i've only reported like half a dozen bugs.... how'd they manage to dig out 2000?
must be them hax0rz.... which i think is a good thing they're helping out....
Using 7 and Vista side by side, I sometimes wonder if they're even made by the same company...
Let's hope they squeeze every bit of performance that they can out of the release candidate. Also I am hoping device stage works with nearly every device around. I don't want to have to deal with 3rd party crapware that's buggy and bloated. Another thing, jumplists are useless until they work with more programs.
How many thinks that these bug fixes will lead to other problems? I wouldn't be surprised because it is after all, Microsoft.
It's called regression error for those who don't know.
Yes!
Does anyone have any guesses of a release timeframe? I'm looking at building a new PC and am trying to decide if I should wait for the public release or not.
Finally MS!
I'm so sick MS making people PAY to be beta testers (Win98 original, Windows ME, XBOX 360, Vista, etc etc), they finally pulled their heads out of their... and realized "Hey, people are going to pirate it and test it on their own, why not let them do it and then let them submit feedback! We don't make money our usual way by labeling it as the retail version and then releasing the real thing as a service pack, but after this Vista debacle... "
haha
You do realize Vista had public beta and RC releases right?
Great job MS. Cant wait to have it on my pee-c.
I would feel a touch more confident if he had said that they are addressing the large number of bugs found and remaining in Vista. Not that I worry too much since 7 is already much more of a stable platform than Vista ever was.
One day someone is going to bring out a management record of how a large successful company came to release a piece of **** like VIsta onto the market place.
It would also be quite nice to know why 7 is not x64 working only. I'm not sure even yet I understand why someone using XP Pro x32 would want to make the investment to go to Vista x32 or 7 x32.
W7 is not x64 only simply because many third party vendors are still having trouble creating stable software and hardware drivers for 64 bit systems not to mention the amount of software that takes advantage of a 64 bit system is minimal at this time. Maybe the next OS will be 64 bit only.
Why do people upgrade from XP 32bit to W7 32bit. Everyone wants the latest and greatest whether or not they will significantly benefit from it's advantages other than eye candy ie:phones,cars,women.............................................
The only gripe i have with windows 7 on this PC (p4 northwood @2.85ghz, 2gb ram, x1600pro) is windows explorer SUCKS. especially browsing my WD mybook external drive. it lags and sits there for minutes at a time trying to open a folder. sometimes just wont work at all and i have to close out the window and try again. that and the glow effect on the task bar sometimes gets stuck
My Nokia E60 is not detected by Win7. no response even either a hardware is attached or not...
I'm running on Windows 7 7057 RC1 Right now :)
Its awesome!
Screen shot of my last post on 7057 :)

You can obviously tell Microsoft has put a great amount of effort into this operating system. When I tried out the first beta it certainly ran a lot snappier then Vista did and I was even able to run it on an old Pentium 4 system and it ran at a usable speed. So I have high hopes for Windows 7, I'm about to try out the latest 7100 build and I'll be excited to see what changes they have made since build 7000.
