NTT DoCoMo halts BlackBerry Bold sales after reports of overheating

It's apparently not quite the same fire hazard that the truth in advertising standard-bearer Quickfire is, but NTT DoCoMo doesn't seem to be taking any chances with its newly-launched BlackBerry Bold, with the Japanese carrier now suspending sales of the smartphone after some reports of it getting a bit too toasty for comfort. Apparently, some 30 users reported that the keyboard "heated up" while the phone was recharging, although it's not clear if that's due to the charger or the handset itself. For its part, RIM says that the issue "appears to be specifically limited to the BlackBerry Bold devices sold in Japan," and that expects to be able to fix the problem and resume sales of the Bold "shortly." In the meantime, stay frosty, Japan.

freshly baked hot Blackberry pie on your doorstep.
then why the hell does by HTC Touch Pro (CDMA, Sprint) not get recalled. This thing could cook an egg, and actually stops charging while making a call, as it over heats.
Imitating Apple once again...
You realize that the Apple AND the RIM fanboys are going to tear you a new one for that.
Crap, I was about to pick one up from AT&T. I wonder if this would affect them at all?
The story does specify that it doesn't.
Figures,.below apple standards without a doubt.,.

Don't forget that shoddy mac book air hinge!!
Oh, and all those iphone 3g quality issues.
In your effort to sound "Engadgety" you wrote a huge run-on sentence. Just thought you should know.
I just got back from Japan, roaming the whole time on a BB Storm (shitty phone, but the only thing from VZW that will work over there). I did notice that the storm heated up quite a bit when charging, but it doesn't seem to be as bad when in the US. I wonder if it has to do with the slight differences in voltage for japanese electric circuits, and thus the bold is suffering the same problem.
The problem is all the cheaply made micro/mini usb chargers that people pay $6.99 for in mall kiosks. These are junk. Would you put regular unleaded gasoline in a lambo? Same concept.
gasoline is fueal. thus it's equal to electrical energy stored in the battery.
micro/mini USB is just equivalent to, err, fuel nozzle.
so it's not the same concept..
oppss, my mistake. it's fuel, not fueal.
I have a bold and its fine. doesn' t get warm at all.
I think my iPhone 3G be recalled too because when I finish a session of talking to my friend, surfing the internet, sending text messages, and playing a game my iPhone feels like it's on fire.
It's not a flaw, it's a feature.
My Bold (bought in US) has NEVER heated up, Love the damn thing!!!!
