NTT DoCoMo's overheating BlackBerry Bold not caused by battery, says RIM
While RIM and Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo still don't know why their BlackBerry Bold is feeling a little toasty around the keyboard, the duo has ruled out a likely culprit, the battery, as its unwelcome heat source. Word on the street is an estimated 30 people have issued complaints about the mobile device heating up while recharging, with around 4,000 units being sold before DoCoMo halted sales. One analyst speculates the issue -- which so far has affected only Japan -- may be based on region-specific software of other customizations. We're sure the pair are working around the clock to get to the bottom of this malfunction, but in the meantime, we recommend dusting off the ol' 8707h to get that retro BlackBerry feel -- y'know, just for kicks.

Last night i was using an LG160 in President Choice MNVO...
I had it charging and fell asleep with it next to my head..
Woke up this morning and it had the LED on Amber... unusual, the keypad and battery was HOT,...
scary t think that the Engadget community could have lost me if it had blown up while i was alseep..
yep, good to know you're alive and well :)
no, wait. just saw you're comment on a previous article. you're that same apple fanboy troll who doesn't know how to type "shit". i take that back... it should of at least blown your eyes so you can't comment on here anymore.
AHAHAH!
Good. Good. Let the hate flow through you boy!
now your training is complete.
Hmm... how do we know you're really iEye? Can you post your social security number, credit card info, phone number, address, and a scanned image of your license? Just to be sure.
lets play a game, iLover. when each of us are in our respective beds lets look between our legs and note what we see. chances are i'll see a female. im willing to bet a months worth of paychecks that you, however, will see your right hand. for many years to "come". enjoy :)
@skyblaze
What if he's a lefty?
@skyblaze
epic poetry. half the community may dislike you for saying good morning too much, but you my friend, earn a hedgehog's spindash of approval.
+1,000,000. bravo.
@bill: kudos
@trevor: why thank you :)... there's nothing wrong with a nice good morning to start the day. have a great evening, sonic fan
Don't generally all phones get hotter when they charge? (My couple Nokia's, Touch HD and iPhone do)
BTW, this is offtopic - how can I get my email and password to stay filled in for "Returning"? I just got a new laptop, and it worked on my old one but doesn't want to no matter what I do on m new one.
Thats an easy one...
1) go to your browser address bar,
2) hold down `Shift`
3) they in the letter A
4) release shift then type pple.com
5) purchase one of these laptop units...
6) scrap the windows one.
easy as that.
What the fuck are you talking about? Just for your info, I am using a Mac, but might consider Windows 7 after using it for almost 2 hours now.
Oh yeah, I forgot one thing; one of the main reasons I am considering the switch are iTards like you, who give the other normal Mac users (like myself) a very bad name. I really wish people like you, iEye and clak (well one person in reality) would just rollover and die. All these forums would just be a whole lot better and hopefully more peacefull between Macs and Windows.
My HTC Pro on Sprint easily got to 127F all the time. More than 30 people complained about it too. I guess HTC just doesn't give a damn... It got too hot to hold on regular phone calls. After an hour-long phone call, the battery would be nearly drained, even while plugged into the charger. Radio portion of phone would register 116-127F. I swear I thought the plastic would warp after time. I also thought maybe my phone was defective, so I went through 6 of them until I gave up and went back to my original Touch.
Maybe the wireless cards? My HTC Prophet doesn't heat during charging, it heats when I turn on Wifi.
I think they need to stop focusing on how much they can cram into one device and revisit the how long the battery can last. I'm sick of "The next best thing" only having enough juice to last half of the day.
It wasn't the battery, it was the phone drawing too much amperage. Yeah, that was it
My Bold's keyboard becomes hot when I talk on it while it is charging. It's not a big deal unless it blows. Acid burn sucks.
according to NTT Docomo's website, the overheating problem was to do a software bug which has been fixed, and they are to resume selling the Bold on April 10.
