Palm's Treo Pro hits Bell Mobility in Canada
We're still waiting on a solid bit of subsidized US availability on Sprint, but Canada's got things all figured out -- how typical. Palm's Treo Pro is doing the EV-DO Rev. A thing on Bell Mobility up there, going for $99.95 on a three-year contract -- 1 and 2-year contracts are $0 and off contract is only $49, so we'll likely be updating when things settle down. That sounds like a silly amount of time to be tied to Windows Mobile 6.1, but we're temporal pessimists like that. Bell Mobility customers can pick up the phone as of today.

Why?? Wait for the Pre.
cmil1212 @ Feb 27th 2009 9:47AM
Because the Pre isn't a business class phone? The Treo Pro targets a different audience.
iLuver @ Feb 27th 2009 9:48AM
You want business get a Black Berry.
kjb434 @ Feb 27th 2009 9:53AM
WinMo is very much targeted to business users just as much as blackberry.
John Doe @ Feb 27th 2009 10:42AM
So, Pre won't cater to business users?? I think it would...it's a Palm.
neodorian @ Feb 27th 2009 2:56PM
The QWERTY and calendar/email integration tells me that the Pre is very much being positioned as a business class phone. Their whole stated goal is to provide a device with the connectivity people expect from their WM and BB phones while also adding consumer and entertainment features that people are getting from PMPs and iDevices. Seems to be a good compromise for people like me who primarily use their devices for syncing with my contacts, calendar, and email as well as web access, navigation, streaming media and the occasional casual game.
iLuver @ Feb 27th 2009 9:47AM
AHAHAHHHHA
Way to sucker in people for the short while, then when the Pre comes out they can sign them up for another 3 years...
Freakin Ijit @ Feb 27th 2009 9:49AM
Colligan said "US carrier" not "American carrier"! Where's the US carrier!? Come on Palm, where's the US carrier!?
Hi Kenneth @ Feb 27th 2009 9:50AM
Lol...3 year contract
Chris @ Feb 27th 2009 9:55AM
Sadly, 3 yr. contracts are the norm up here.
Hi Kenneth @ Feb 27th 2009 10:03AM
Man...thats bad. I would get it w/ a 2 yr contract if its below $200.
drunag @ Feb 27th 2009 10:14AM
i don't get it.. 99.99 on a 3 year, $0 on a 2 and 1 year... and $49 without a contract?
did i misread something?
Anand D @ Feb 27th 2009 10:18AM
I was wondering the same thing! A very poor blog post.
754Boy @ Feb 27th 2009 10:20AM
I was about to post the exact same thin. How the hell is it cheaper off contract than on???? Also, why is the 3 year more expensive than the 1 or 2 year??? Someone screwed up majorly..........
Freakin Ijit @ Feb 27th 2009 10:51AM
Go to Bell Canada and all will be revealed...somewhat more than $49...
XGM @ Feb 27th 2009 10:55AM
Epic fail. After 30 secs looking up heres the prices
$ 99.95 Three-year term*
$399.95 Two-year term
$499.95 One-year term
$549.95 No contract
Engadget, your posts seem to be degrading rapidly in quality, please work on quality...
Smacksmackums @ Feb 27th 2009 11:08AM
Very poor indeed.
John @ Feb 27th 2009 4:04PM
That's Canadian dollars.
Here it is in US Dollars.
$ 199.95 Three-year term*
$799.95 Two-year term
$1099.95 One-year term
$1549.95 No contract
But don't worry, by April you will be getting an extra $13 per month in tax breaks.
Colonel Kernel @ Feb 27th 2009 12:25PM
That might be Paul's excruciatingly poor attempt at humor. The Business Wire article only mentions the 3-year contract price. It makes no meniton of any other pricing model. That's just a guess, of course, but I can't make sense of it any other way.
XGM @ Feb 27th 2009 12:41PM
Actually John the US price would be
$ 78.75 Three-year term*
$315.05 Two-year term
$393.87 One-year term
$433.27 No contract
Shank @ Feb 27th 2009 11:34AM
Pre will fail as the pro is,.accept iPhone as true dominator already,.!right??
Colonel Kernel @ Feb 27th 2009 12:19PM
Der.
XGM @ Feb 27th 2009 12:38PM
Unless your in Canada, because your stuck with Rogers...
Lorne @ Feb 27th 2009 1:32PM
Best WM phone to date, IMHO.
Why there are not more exposed keyboard phones is beyond me...
A Pro2 with a front keyboard would be gold, jerry..gold!
Miguel @ Feb 27th 2009 2:08PM
Sucks for canadiens. I dont care who the provider is....no phone is worth a 3 yr contract
*brotha @ Feb 27th 2009 3:21PM
if it wasnt for the case cracks, the treo pro is an excellent phone and only second or equal to the Touch Pro
if you want flexibility, free software, and the openness of windows mobile ofcourse.
Ryan @ Feb 27th 2009 4:45PM
Why is a 3yr contract such a big deal. I had a 2yr on my Treo 680. I still have it it'll be 4 years in august. There is still no smartphone on AT&T that compares to it. Palm last forever if you take care of them.
*brotha @ Feb 27th 2009 6:08PM
smart phones generally last for ever if you take care of them
they have no moving parts, so do not wear down. As long as you dont smash it, it should still work great 15 years later.
My dell axim x51v is like 5+ years old and works like brand new.
if it wasnt for the case cracking, i would prob have a treo pro over a touch pro
Kristian @ May 18th 2009 9:54AM
Ya somebody did a colossal f-up. I got the phone after complaining that they advertised it for $50. Now I got a spanking new phone for pretty much $140 as i had to pay full price of $550 with additional taxes and a huge $500 credit on my bill. HAHAHAHA....Good for you Bell. Damn these telecomm giants for always trying to get our money, I got some back with this!!!!!!!!!!!
