Limited edition Lego Mindstorms NXT brings back a decade of memories
We'll just go ahead and warn you -- don't even think of giving the read link any attention if you're both a) a Lego freak and b) strapped for cash. Otherwise, you'll definitely be $169.99 further away from paying the light bill next month, as the limited edition Mindstorms Black NXT Brick is simply a must-have item for even amateur collectors. The device, which was created to celebrate ten years of Mindstorms, boasts four input ports, a trio of output ports for motors, a large dot-matrix display, USB 2.0, Bluetooth, a 32-bit microprocessor and a digital wire interface for third-party developments. We'd get in line now if you want to be assured of a piece come March 3rd, but that's totally your call.

hey that's an RCX!
Best. Brick. Ever.
Yes, I remember Mindstorms.
BEST THING EVAAARRRR!!!! But then I got into video games, got fat, and stopped building things. Maybe it's time to end the Killzone 2 sessions, hit the gym, and start building robots!
Nah. But I will consider the robot part.
no no no, it's time to build robots that go to the gym for you while you play killzone 2.
Whoa ! I'm not here to invite the fury of fanboys, but this thing seems to have better specs than an iPhone !

Are you implying that we lowrankers have a predictible way of doing things? that's offensive.
Does it allow you to play fart sounds? Does it have a flashlight app? No. Lego sucks. Meccano is what future engineers play with.
if meccano is what future engineers play with, FischerTechnik is what REAL engineers play with.
@steve
NXT can do both of those (play custom sound files and turn on a light). I got nothing against Meccano, though.
Just wish the NXT had more I/O.

I remember getting the original Mindstorms for Christmas and I still have the set and it all works fine, with the exception of one of the motors (Legos + a teething Malamute puppy = chewed up motor), I would pull it out and totally use it if I could find the IR transmitter so I can program the thing. LEGOsheets was my first programming language and I never knew it!
Hmm..I expected this. So let me do the dumb thing of explaining a joke to people like you. If lego blocks can have bluetooth dont you think its time your iPhone had good uncrippled bluetooth ? Just a thought..
Cheers mate
Yes
Who thinks the thing on the right looks like a old Iriver player?
You.

Black! it's just what I've been waiting for...wait no I've been waiting for more I/O, and a slimmer profile, maybe another 20 years
When I was a kid legos did one thing: they snapped together. When I got older I got a box with some batteries and a switch that would run a motor with some gears. By that time I had discovered McMaster-Carr and was building real stuff.
Now that I'm a kid again I'm definitely buying this!
I remember wanting one of these when I was a kid, but mommy said it was too expensive ;_;
same. but then I got older and bought it myself. BAM!
I had one of them RCX beasts when I was younger! :D
I still have it somewhere, it was an utterly fantastic toy. I got rather good with it I must admit. The hours I lost mucking around with that thing....
man when my grandma bought it for me when i was like 12 or well anyways i was young. i didnt know what i was doing, had no idea where to start and i just stoped playing with it. god i wish i knew what i know now. bummer big time.
