T-Mobile brings $50 unlimited voice plan to rest of America
Well, that "trial" didn't last long at all, now did it? Just days after teeing up a $50 unlimited voice plan in the great city of San Francisco, T-Mobile USA has reportedly taken said plan nationwide. Users are already buzzing about the widespread availability, though it should be noted that the same "loyalty requirements" from the San Fran pilot are still in effect for the rest of the nation. In other words, you have to have been a T-Mob subscriber for at least 22 months and have been in good standing the whole time. Oh, and being cute probably helps.

NICE! Hopefully they'll be paving the way for similar plans with the other carriers.
This crap is still too expensive. It should be $20 unlimited voice/text. $30 unlimited voice/text/data. Does it really cost the companies $50-$100 for data/voice? Anyone know how much it really costs them?
I'm guessing a couple cents?
I have to say, I am as much of a grumbler about celco charges as the next guy, but I really think it is foolish to complain about $50 unlimited voice plans. This is much better than anything that has been available before.
If Tmobile would just make a $70 unlimited everything plan, I might actually switch back from Verizon, something I swore I would never do after the piss poor signal quality on my Tmobile phones (my first cellphone ever).
" I really think it is foolish to complain about $50 unlimited voice plans. This is much better than anything that has been available before"
Is it really that bad in the US and A? Here such a plan is dirt cheap.
It's amazing that $50 sounds like a good plan to us Americans simply because there's no competition to drive cell prices down. In the rest of the world, it's highway robbery. Of course, they actually HAVE more than 3 cellphone companies...
lol i still cant believe in 2009 we pay for TEXT messaging....Texting should be free on every phone plan
not only are we paying for texting, we are paying more for it now than a few years ago
damned if you do, damned if you don't. Learn to appreciate things.
texting can't be free for everyone, because then people would get the smallest voice plan possible and text much more often. But texting should really be included free with data plans, and cheaper for everyone without a data plan.
lol, this is not nice
I pay $10 dollars/months of UNLIMITED CALLING to like 80 COUNTRIES around the world.
Why is $50 a month to phones in ONE country a good deal?
I should be cute enough.
I, on the other hand will have to wait another 21 months. Or basically till my contract expires.
But G1 FTW
What about unlimited voice for family plans?
It's $89.98. That covers the first 2 lines. Then it's $39.99 for each additional line.
I just signed up. It's a good deal.
The dumb thing is though, it gave me MyFaves. If I have unlimited voice, WTF do I need MyFaves?? Duhr.
apparently they have this myfaves thing for unlimited users also.. that's kinda like an easy way for speed dial :-/ read about that somewhere.
40 per additional line? Jeeze.
Hmm... $40 does seem a bit expensive... I will stick to my current plan then...
So yea, romeyrome... when people got the unlimited plan and it didn't have myfaves they complained and now that t-mobile has added it in there to make those people stop complaining its made a new set of people start complaining about it being there. Cant make everybody happy...
who really only talks on the phone anymore though.
They can't afford to do otherwise in these times. I know quite a few people that are dropping phones and internet just to make ends meet.
I say drop the cable and cell phone, get a prepaid phone for emergencies then grab a magic jack for your phone needs and use broadband to download/stream all your favorite TV shows. Use free OTA HD to get your local channels.
Woah!
If only the Palm Pre was coming out on T-Mobile.
Sorry, but Sprint will have my business once it's released.
race to the bottom
Very cool idea but unfortunately I don't need or want unlimited voice. I don't talk on the phone during the day because I am at work and then when the evenings or weekends roll around, voice is free anyway. What I do use is tons and tons of data. I've been on a minimal voice plan with $15 unlimited 3G data for a while now and it has worked out great for me. I would be much more eager to become a TMo customer if they matched the data price. When I shop for plans I look for whoever can give me the cheapest voice package and cheapest unlimited data package. It's rare that I even break 150 minutes a month in voice but I stream so much audio and video as well as Exchange sync and web I use many megabytes of data.
$15 Unlimited 3G data? Do tell. Or does that only exist in your head......
AT&T medianet is $15 a month
@Frankfurter
$15 unlimited data on at&t with unlocked phones like the Nokia E71 or N85
In my head? Hmm...I guess I've been misreading my Sprint bill for all these years then. I had this plan ever since my old flip phone with 2G speeds and have kept it through my Treo, Mogul, and now Touch Pro. I may upgrade to a shared plan when the Pre rolls out so I can get one for my girlfriend and I.
I am well aware that the plans changed recently but they still seem comparable. Right now I pay $29.99 for 200 daytime min, $5 for text, and $15 for unlimited EVDO for a total of $50 plus tax every month. The new plan is like $69.99 for 450 min and unlimited text, data, nav, etc. It's a little more than I pay now but I may deal with it if it's the only way I can get a Pre. I just wish I didn't have to pay for all those unused voice minutes.
does this include people with flex pay 2??? im in no contract...... can i still get it tho??
The reason I left T-mobile is because their 3G service is not that great, I mean come on, Indianapolis is not that small of city and it just plain sucks. They should be focusing on broadening their 3G coverage because by the time they catch up it will be old tech.
Why haven't the carriers been battling over pricing? And why hasn't the government gone after them for price fixing? Isn't that what free markets are about, price competition?
This is only for customers that have been on contract for 22 months already, i cant get it because I've only been with t-mobile for 10 months :(
Dang and this comes the month I signed my new 2 year for verizon...
^
OWNED !!!!
I heard the 'boost mobile' $50 unlimited voice and text messaging plan on the radio as well.
I'm cute!
:envy:
I JUST switched over to this! Been a customer since 2002. Went from 1500 with My Faves to this. My bill is 20 bucks cheaper with the G1 Data plan now.
I am happy to be with T-Mobile right now.
Would you still be happy LATER? Assuming they haven't changed their mind with conviction......
Clearly cute enough here. Logged into Tmo.com to see what sort of crap phones they have on offer and got a splash screen with the offer.
If only being a Verizon customer for over 8 years was worth anything /cry
you guys that are harping on this areint he minority you're all super users not everyone in the country uses tons of data, most actually use their cell phones for making calls believe it or not so this will definitely help w/ the bottom line for some folks during the hard times. Heck they may even disconnect that landline now that they have unlimited voice.
This is BS. Anyone on a current contract able to switch to this? Because I have been with T-Mo for over two years and been on good standing and I can't get this.
First they up the Blackberry data plan one month before releasing the new blackberry, now they release this unlimited loyalty plan that people who have been loyally getting new phones and upgrading their contracts cant get. Like I said bs.
Maybe I'm not cute enough.
Just tried customer care, they're saying it's still regional. I've qualified for the longevity, but it still isn't in my area... A bit ironic as I pass by their HQ on the way to the store.
The unlimited Family Plan is $89 for two phones. so i imagine you add $10 per phone yes?

the reason they gave you my favs is so you don't loose the list of your fav people on your phone ... you can have it taken off too. They actually asked me when i signed up.

Is this the first time in the history of forever a company actually do something potentially good for their loyal customers?
I'd rather see cheaper SMS/data plans.
i agree 100%... i've been a tmo customer since they bought out Voicestream when i was with them.. about 12 years ago!! (anyone remember that?)... well in the early days, i could get UNLIMITED internet (lets be fair, it was pretty much WAP only then... ) for $4.99/month (sms was a la carte though... ) so it was really cool when i could stream internet radio like CNN radio on my nokia 3650 (early symbian phone).... but then they doubled the rate to $9.99/mnth... it was still kinda cool so i kept it.... then another year later and another double of the price!!!!!! $19.99/month!!!! JEEZ!!! i quit at that point.. but it did double AGAIN... i thought as technology got better, it got cheaper to make/produce/manage.... i think it was simple supply and demand that steered those prices... but i agree with all of you, as a current tmo customer i would LOVE to see cheap or unlimited data plans.. then i'd chuck the dumb phone for a smart phone... im lucky enough that my work gives me a tilt on ATT with unlimited data... but im sure alot of you would agree that any phone worth its salt today NEEDS an internet connection to make it whole.... thanks!
