The 2008 Engadget Awards: Nominate the Gadget of the Year

Nominating is easy, simply leave a comment with what you're nominating for this category. We'll round up the best selections and put them to the popular vote.
Here's five simple rules of what NOT to do:
- Don't include your reasons for nominating it.
You can debate the product later when we put it up to vote. Just leave the name of what you want to nominate, ok? - Don't nominate anything that wasn't sold for the first time in 2008.
We will allow updated versions of previous devices, however. - No concept devices or prototypes.
It has to be a real gadget people can buy! Pre-orders don't count. - Don't nominate anything more than once.
It's not a popularity contest (yet), all it does is make our lives harder. Just do a quick find to see if someone's already beat you to it. - Seriously, don't nominate anything that's already been nominated!

Putting GPS and 3G in an existing product and tacking a different plastic back on it should not warrant consideration of this being the Gadget of the Year.
Let's try to actually weigh real merits and have a serious vote, not some fanboy cluster-frick.
The AppStore was introduced, it was the secret weapon. The 3G and GPS just made the AppStore even better
The hardware is completely different. Seems like a new product to me.
It's the same phone.
Just because a transistor might be in a different location, does not make it a new device.
Maybe, but no single "gadget" did more for the cell phone industry in 2008 than the iPhone 3G.
Ok, it got apps but so does the original iPhone with the update. The 3G chip set is faulty, so its hardly any faster. And the GPS doesn't work very well indoors, so it has a major downside. In my opinion, its one of the least revolutionary devices of the year. OK, its a little better and at a lower price, but isn't that what we expected in the second edition?
Hardly any faster? Now lets use real data to back up what we say rather than a bunch of hot air: http://s5.tinypic.com/hvouh4.jpg

because we all have a burning need to use our GPS indoors...?
