Apple just announced new 24-inch and 20-inch
iMacs, with some friendlier pricing and Mini DisplayPort video out. Prices start at $1,199 for the 20-inch and $1,499 for the 24-inch. At the base level Apple offers a 20-incher with 2.66Ghz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM, a 320GB HDD and GeForce 9400M graphics, the rest of the iMacs are 24-inch numbers with 4GB of RAM standard. In the high end Apple has 2.93GHz and 3.06GHz processor for $1,799 and $2,199, respectively, with GeForce GT 120 256MB and GeForce GT 130 512MB graphics. In between there's a 24-incher for $1,199 with 9400M graphics, a 2.66GHz processor and a 640GB HDD. On the outside it's that same iMac candy shell you know and love, though Apple has oddly replaced the standard wired keyboard with a new numeric keypad-free model -- those pesky numbers are available as an option. All models are available now, full configurations are after the break.
Update: Early information across the wires listed the new iMacs with Core i7 processors. Sadly, this is not the case, and we've updated the post to reflect the boring reality of the situation.

What does this leave for the 24th?
I don't know... iPhone, Air both kinda ring a bell.
Hopefully Snow Leopard, but probably not.
Perhaps the 24 was just a mixup at the rumor mill...size not date.
Nice!
I can't wait. I think this will be a verry good computer... but time will tell.
You can't wait? Really? I have to say that I am very disappointed.
I really don't see how this is much different than the 24" 2.8 GHz Core 2 Extreme (Aug 2007) iMac that is sitting on my desk at home.
Core i7?? Yeah right! Try Core 2 Duo!
Misunderstanding... If you look, it says they made an update... I thought at the time of the post it was an i-7... but it's not.
I'm curious whether they switched to cheaper screens on the 24" model...perhaps an eIPS panel?
Well, I like my iMac better. a new stand and cheaper screen wont cut it.
i hate macs
So why are you reading and posting on the article?
As an owner of the previous gen 24 incher I can assure you that this indeed is not exciting. Damn they could of atleast made the wireless keyboard standard. Those things still use laptop ram too so that is another bottleneck. Im just gonna have to build myself a core i7 on the side because even with a 2.8 ghz core2duo I am still seeing nothing but beach balls and lockups. Guess these things arent for power users. I also wish I could turn off paging. rawr.
No mention of the updated Mac Mini or Mac Pro?
At least us "Windows fanboys" don't have to wait for CrApple to update their hardware so you can USE the latest tech... Instead WE can go to the store get the latest hardware and use it!
Mini was updated. I'm buying one :)
No, you just wait for 7, i7, and other hardware.
Brian you have to be friggin kidding me. When I got Vista is was pissed off at every piece of hardware and I ended up having to purge it after all the problems. You should be ashamed of talking about windows like its perfect - see ME and Vista for reasons to laugh at your comment.
Windows fanboys just got told.
So you haven't been to Dell.com for the last six months?
Brian just posted his password lol
No, PC users did not just get told. We've had access to the components you deluded mac users have only just got your hands on for months.
Jesus you fanboys are irritating.
Enjoy your 120% Apple tax.
See, if Engadget's commenting system worked properly - I would've beaten you to saying that.
So I'm not the only one who just copies and pastes it from the confirmed account email? Hey, lol, at least we're not commenting on Engadget using an iPhone then!
No, I did not, your welcome to try it, and my comment to dambo was suppose to be for you...
lmao, I've been using an i7 processor since Dec. 08 now. Custom building ftw.
You sure you didn't, because mine is 'ccaeb704'.
...oh damn.
"hey, if you type in your pw, it will show as stars"
Um...No they didn't? They aren't even offering Core i7 those iMacs have regular old Core 2 stuff.
@jordn, you wanna talk about Apple tax? how about if we talk about the fact that you can't by a PC without being charge for a Vista license ether you like it or not, even if you got a fresh copy of XP at home. Am a Windows and Mac user, i by a Mac cause it's the only machine that can run all versions of windows without a issue and am pretty sure my new iMac will run all versions of windows 7, will your machine run all versions of windows 7? F*ck no.
Have you ever considered that people who prefer other brands of PC do so because of the hardware as much as the OS? To assume everyone finding these "updates" to be lackluster is a "Windows fanboy" is missing the point. Apple is always late to the hardware game and they rape you on price just so you have the privilege of using OSX.
I like OSX just fine. It's just Apple and their bullshit policy of artificially locking it to Apple-branded PCs that pisses me off. It's not that I'm so much a Windows fanboy as I can't legally run OSX on my better and less expensive hardware and therefore I do just fine with Windows and Linux.
@Snitch - Do you even know what you are talking about?
Everytime you buy a Mac, you are being charged for an OS X license. If your PC can run one version of Windows 7, it can run all of them. Seriously, WTF are you talking about?
@Mikee, No you can't, you can try but if your among the few that got screwed with the vista ready logo you will later find out that your machine was only capable of running Vista home for example and if when ahead and brought the ultimate version things like AERO didn't work, So no all PC's are not capable of running all versions of windows properly, that's why you have PCs that cost $400 and some that cost $3000.
@Nathan
Am I the only one that got that?? hahah
@Snitch. You really are a deluded fanboy. You can run Ultimate on a system that came pre-loaded with Home Basic. You are not forced to run Vista with all the bells and whistles attached you know. Aero can be disabled on Ultimate.
hunter2
@snitch. what's wrong with buying a windows computer that includes payment for the windows?
arent you paying apple for their hardware, and their software?
and you made a quite good point there. buy a mac, so you can run windows. (logical disconnect anyone??)
and actually, my $350 toshiba laptop from two years ago is running windows 7 beta (which only comes in the "ultimate" flavor" quite well. so. i'm guessing other $300 computers can run it quite well
vista didnt suck that bad. people just didnt have the hardware to run vista. they paid $300 dollar computer, but was frustrated that their computer wasnt as fast as $2000 computer. people are unreasonable. and these unreasonable people became apple fanboys
Come on engadget, how about a recession anditote with this little number.
Yeah, and make it open for INTERNATIONAL residents too..
If you really feel that you "hate" an inanimated piece of technology, it's probably time to consider contacting a good analist.
I don't like macs, or better: I do like them , but I much prefer other platforms for many important reasons, therefore Apple s not likely to ever get any of my hard earned euros. However I am happy that concurrent platforms and technologies compete for market share and the favor of clients.
Analist? LOL.
Seems like there better be an i7 Mac Pro on the 24th, then.
Mac pro was already upgraded with Nehalem, the workstation equivalent of i7
I need one for photoshop!
I hope that when snow leopard comes, CS4 can run 64bit on mac os x!
You "need one for Photoshop"? Really? I could have sworn Photoshop was available in exactly the same editions for PC's, for YEARS. The mac version will give you the EXACT same product... just with more expensive hardware.
Try running professional CAD software on a mac and let me know how that goes.
I run CAD and Maya and 3DS Max on my 3 year old MacBook pro. It goes well, why?
Oh, come on Adam. You've never really cut the head off one of your friends and put it on Angelina Jolie's body until you've done it in 64-bit! Just think how much faster I can Lomo all my photos!
@ Adam: you didn't know the same hardware does so much more with OS X than Windows? Well, now you do. Enjoy your Vista. (XP's decent, though.)
When Snow Leopard comes, CS5 will be able to run 64-bit on mac... in 16 months.
Yawn.
