ASUS Eee Top now available for pre-order at Amazon
Been looking for an inexpensive all-in-one to unify your life, something that your zombie slave Fido could use in the kitchen to look up recipes yet would also look equally good perched on a minimalist desk? ASUS's first Eee Top could fit the bill, and it looks to be very close to US availability with the appearance of a pre-order page on Amazon.com. The 15.6-inch touchscreen model has the standard 1.6GHz Atom processor, 1GB of memory, and XP installed on a 160GB drive. Right now it's available in either black or white, and whether you're choosing the presence or absence of all colors you'll be asked to pay $599.99 -- naturally with free shipping available if you're not in too much of a hurry.

Now we are talking.
What I don't get is why there are not more touchscreens out there at competitive pricing.
At this price I can at last have one in each room to access my Sonos, my Thermal regulation and my Video monitors.
what about your sharks with the frickin' laser beams on their heads?
What about the Version with ATi Radeon HD3450 ?
Did they cancel it already ?
Take a look at the Google-Cached link from Asus->

This would make a great computer for the kitchen or kids but its hard to pay that much for an atom cpu.
Good price although I'm sceptical about the touch screen capabilities not getting jerky during heavy load, as there is nothing more annoying than a slow touch screen device. Dual core atom can't come soon enough.
Dual core atom has been here for 6 months. This will most likely be running Dual core
I already saw some for sale over here in Bahrain
prices are around BD 250 I think (around $630)
This is a PC only my wife could love.
@.o why ppl need a touchscreen at home?
omg - why would you not need a touchscreen ?
1.sonos
2. thermal
3. video
a touchscreen does not need a mouse !!! therefore no flat surface required, no secondary unit to interface with. yes i can use a gyro mouse, but this is way more handy.
WHY would you need a touchscreen at work ?
BTW - do you have kids ?
The Amazon page is short on specs - Same boring Intel video I assume? That wallmount pic is badass but since Atom + Intel can only do SD video I'll pass this in anticipation of some VDPAU action.
I just pre-ordered mine. :) Been waiting awhile. I developed a touchscreen Kitchen app. It has Recipes, Mixed drinks, Music playlists, 3 timers, grocery list via a UPC scanner, to do list, and more. Cant wait to get it working.
That is really cool. Are you gonna distribute ?
Everything about this is cool. But... why not dual-core atom? That $150 crappy MSI Wind box on Newegg has had one for a long time. Total dealbreaker!
You know, with a 15.6" screen, it makes me wonder why someone wouldn't get a laptop instead. Same price, usually better specs (i.e. non-Atom processor), roughly same screen size, and mobility is a *huge* perk even if you will only occasionally carry it around.
This new model at least has a touch-screen as a fairly unique feature, but older ones didn't have even that. What am I missing?
If I'm not mistaken, there's a model with a built-in battery in the works -- if it's not already out in Europe -- so that covers mobility.
I really want one of these touchscreens in a normal ASUS G50 or something.
Pretty sure I will get one to act as a wall mounted juke box..hooked up to the stereo
For work, idk, maybe a kiosk. Depends how long those touchscreens would last. For something as simple as a web-based kiosk, that's relatively cheap. Compared with a tablet with an extended battery for $2200.
So it is a touchscreen all-in-one PC. Isn't that called a "tablet PC". So this is a tablet that is not portable. And it is under-powered to boot. Great, sign me up. NOT.
Ok, kidding aside, I can see where this might be put to a specific use, as some have already suggested here. But as a general purpose PC, I don't think so. I can get a pretty decent laptop for 6 bills.
Oh, and the whole kitchen PC thing. I don't need my kitchen PC to be touchscreen. Sure, that would be OK. But I really want it to have a good voice recognition interface. When I am in the kitchen, my hands are occupied with cooking, or cleaning something. I don't want to smear whatever grease/food/dirt is on my hands on the screen just to search for recipes, or whatever.
If the history of the rest of the Eee line is any indication, this thing will be $300-350 within 6 months.
@Ahmedz
Where have you seen these in the UK? im very interested to know...
@kccboy2004
What do you use for your thermal control? im quite interested to set this up myself.
As much as I love Asus and the eee line, I have to say Shuttle did this better with the X50, everything wrong with this machine is fixed dual core atom, XP Pro, and $100 cheaper to boot. You could playback HD video on it, I've been doing that on my i945GCLF2 for months now and love it. Albeit, HD video on a 16" screen isn't anything to get too excited about :)

You purchased your X50? Where?
Thanks for the heads up, now I am waiting for T91 to hit amazon!
