We knew MSI's newest
X-Slim laptops were ultrathin, but it wasn't until we saw 'em in person here at CeBIT that we truly appreciated the design. These are definitely amongst the sexiest laptops we've seen in some time, though it only took a moment for fingerprints to begin marring the previously flawless glossy top. Both were appropriately sturdy and remarkably lightweight, and if these are any sign of where MSI is going with its styling, we can't wait for the future. On that note, we should also mention that we stumbled upon the absolutely gigantic
GT725. Granted, that machine is aimed squarely at the gaming crowd, but it just looked unnatural after toying with its fitness-minded siblings just seconds earlier. We went a little crazy with the camera, but feel free to only peek the thumbnails you like.
Hmmm. can anyone say Air...
It may even have the same screen hinge problem
There is no denying the source of inspiration, but they will be a whole lot cheaper than their Cupertino Dopplegangers. We've seen the hardware specs now, too, and they should be pretty nice for those who want a bump up in power from something Atom-based.
*says "air"*
It may be pretending to be an air but it's as thick as a standard MacBook
This is nothing like the MBA, for one thing, I see too many ports!
I'm no Apple fan but I have to say that I thought this was another Apple post for a second. It's a shame MSI couldn't have come up with something a little different although I must be missing something given that Engadget didn't bother harping on about this.
"say "good Jobs" we did hard work here today..."
For some weird reason I laughed at that a bit..
shameless copy of the macbook air... silly
my point is that it's been proven that there're many manufacturers out there who do design decent pcs too, and mobile phones, such as rim and sony.
what's the point of copying what other's have done and actually making it worse than the original. if you want to copy someone else, make it better, improve on where users of the original product has been complaining, do it properly like what palm's done.
frankly in my opinion this sort of products shall never be made onto engadget from day one.
Dont you have bigger issues in you life?
How much of a loser can you be that you even care?
Apple copies Gnome/KDE/Beryl/Compiz-Fusion/etc... (OSX GUI features)
Apple copies Sony (chicklet keyboard)
Apple copies Creative (original iPod GUI)
Apple copies Linux (basing their OS on Unix technical principles)
Don't get me wrong, Apple has some great products, and has provided a lot of original design to the computer world, but they, like other companies, will get on board with a good idea when they see one, even if it is just a copy.
I think most people's issues with apple stem from their pricing and their creepy, controlling license agreements.
Wow... Apple copies Linux?
Ever heard of NeXTStep/OpenStep?
OS X is BSD (which is actually Unix), not "based on" Linux (which is a Unix variant).
@Jorvay
"Apple copies Gnome/KDE/Beryl/Compiz-Fusion/etc... (OSX GUI features)

Mac OS X had an OpenGL GUI in 2001, wayyyyyyyy before Beryl or Compiz even existed. Beryl and Compiz mostly exist to duplicate the features of Mac OS X like Expose.
Chicklet keyboard? Yep, copied.
iPod GUI? Perhaps.
I don't even know how to respond to this notion that Apple somehow copied Linux. LOL YOU MUST BE JOKING! Yep, that works as a response.
Bah, you're right about Beryl/fusion. But the points I was trying to make are that copying and/or improving upon good ideas is common in technology and sometimes what seems like a copy of an idea is really just coming to the same logical conclusion by coincidence (i.e. basing a new OS on Unix because it's a smart move, not because Linux did it first).

Ukillthethread..
Unic = Eunuch
I know everyone who just bridles at the mention of anything Apple related is going to come in here and cause a stink. But the fact is, these are MacBook copies simple and plain.
And I'm sure MSI intended for it to be that way. It's not a big deal, but it's clear as day.
Well then go fucking sue them then!
Hell this little prissy ass group of supposed men who cat fight over stupid shit like this makes me hope for a depression just to fucking get some of your candy-asses perspectives straight again.
Ooooooh that looks oh so much like (insert name here)!!! Grrrr I'm sooo angry, I'm gonna wring my hands until I feel better.
@Look_Around_You
It's just disappointing how a company can so obviously put no effort into the design of their product and instead blatantly copy another.
It's not the fact that it's a rip-off of Apple, but rather it's a rip-off of anything to begin with.
Look_Around_You, you're the one getting the most upset more than anyone here. Listen and apply what you're saying to everyone to yourself and STFU.
sigh, another shameless copy.
And whats that in the background of picture 5??
Its an imac! no sorry, an imsi.
There was a time when msi made their own products. I brought lots from them in those days... :(
Me thinks that MSI has been slipping some benny's under the door at the Apple manufacturing plants, and slapping some different labels on :O; swapping crews of course. Lord
MSI does make their own products, and they ODM for other companies, too. It's apple that doesn't actually make anything, they just do a hell of a design.
MSI also makes mp3 players for Sandisk and various other hardware.
Of course it's a macbook air copy. Who cares? It's not going to take any sales from the Apple faithful, and gives the Windows crew something cheaper to play with, since as we all know, the only reason we don't buy Apple is because we can't afford it.
Also in pic five, that display/all in one looks just like the apple studio displays from a couple years ago.
But what the hell, MSI make some pretty sexy computers :)
very similar to my apple computer. hmmm...
Who says "apple computer?" Omg, are you trapped in 1992? DO YOU NEED RESCUE!?
why disregard it just cuz it looks like another product? i mean... if it works, has nice specs, does what it's supposed to do and does it well (and at a lower price than the competitors) i wouldnt even care if they called it "[insert model name] Air"... id go for it :)
"The highly anticipated feast of the vision.."
haha! you go MSI!
these guys are hilarious!
Seriously. This multi million international company that designs and builds complex electronics... youd think they could just borrow *someone* that speaks english!
Engadget, you said 'looking forward to the future'? Before being branded an apple fan boy, it is plain Macbook Air copy with latest all black glossy screen from the rest of the Mac unibody laptop line. You really mean, you're looking forward to what Apple can come up with and MSI go and copy. Probably cheaper, without the hinge problem and a few more usb ports.
probably cheaper, without the hinge problem, and more USB ports.... I would brand you more "confused about what side you're on" than an Apple fanboy at this point.
I am a Apple fan and love Macs. But I have to admit that MSI has done a great job by making the Wind and X-Slim !!
finally someone who doesn't bash msi. you, my friend, earn a cookie
(thats... all i have at the moment)
Last I checked, the computer they ripped off can run almost EVERY OS including Vista and Windows 7
This laptop looks to take design cues more from HP in my mind than from apple. For sure, this is a nicer looking computer than anything apple could design or make.. the other benefits, it isn't tied to cupertino in any way, it will run Vista, Win7 and any other good OS and it costs less!
Care to explain which part of this laptop is taken design cues from HP?? seeing from your avatar .. i think u r just denying the fact that it looks like an Apple laptop... bash all you want.. but it is what it is
come on man, lets face it: it's a windows air, and i dont say it's bad or anything... i'm a big fan of cheap beautiful computers, even though they arent very original. That's what makes the price remain low: not investing in a visionary design team.
But to say this looks more like HP is ridiculous: when did HP make trackpads with only one button?
