Motorola Touch ZINE HD is likely fake, hearts break around the world
We knew it was too good to be true. Don't get us wrong, this new ZN300 is alright, but Motorola knows as well as we do that this isn't the device people are looking for Schaumburg to produce right now; the company's engineering talent isn't in question, but what the people want is a superphone that proves there's some design talent in the house, too. That's why this supposed Touch ZINE HD got such a strong positive reaction the past few days that we'd all held out hope that there was a shred of reality to it, but unfortunately, Androphones.com makes a very convincing argument that it's almost certainly poppycock: looks like our boy Yury Cassini here took the back of a ZN5, combined it with the blanked front of a E8, and -- voila! -- there's the device the Android-loving world is waiting for. In our last piece about this device, we implored to Moto that "if this isn't real, can whatever it is you're working on right this second and do precisely this instead," and as we sit here with broken hearts and shattered dreams, the advice most definitely stands.

D'awww.
I feel for you guys.
We heard you like fake phones, so we put a fake phone on a fake phone, so you can be faked out while you're faked out.
No way, you gotta be faking!
Fake me.
that's what she did.
That would have been THE killer android device and likely something that would restore consumers' faith in motorola and reestablish their presence as a big player in the handset world. They need to refocus their business plan (handset division) and put all of their weight behind one amazing and show stopping device, like palm did with the pre. A xenon flash on an android phone alone would be a pretty substantial statement.
Every fiber of my nerdy being wants to strangle that photoshopper.
Ok .. I'll say it Motorola = FAIL
Nothing good has ever come out of Schaumburg, save for that CompUSA on Golf that went out of business a few years back. Who's with me, eh?
Schaumburg does get a lot of trash talk pointed their way. Its not great, but its an ok place to hit for some shopping.
I got stabbed once on the mean streets of woodfield.
I probably stabbed you! get away from my chipotle.
Who knew there were so many other Schaumburgians out there. BTW, that CompUSA blew, it was just as inflated as Circuit City and the likes. Best things in Schaumburg are the Portillo's on Golf and the Lou Malnati's at Schaumburg and Roselle.
One would think that the fact some of the "shots" show a wider phone compared to other "shots" would be a dead giveaway :/
I think the slimmer phones are in the lineup of shots to show where the photoshopper got its source material to compose the final, tragically fake pic..
Well.. all I can say is - you are correct that the large touchscreen with Kodak branding isn't coming.... but that is because Moto stopped working with Kodak for now. There's no reason that the "rest" of the phone including a non-Kodak lens isn't on it's way with full Android goodiness...
I can say no more.
Nope! Just checked; the heart is still in one piece. Oh, wait a minute, there is a crack forming. Come on Moto.
That article had to be one of the most difficult and hard-to-read postings I've seen on Engadget in awhile. And I graduated 6th grade.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
*THROWS OATMEAL*
Has anyone know details about this moto? https://direct-secure.motorola.com/hellomoto/us/qa4/registration.html
"As you can clearly see in these pictures the so called "leaked pictures" of a new Motorola android phone were actually a Photoshop job, combining the elements of two existing Motorola phones."
Umm, tell me I'm in denial or something, but the fact that there are elements of previous Motorola phones in a new Motorola phone does not firmly bat down the reality of these images. It surprises everyone that this supposed Moto has aspects that look similar to Motos of the past? It's called design language.
Some of the other things people are saying seem puffy to me too. Motorola stopped working with Kodak? Their Global Mobile-Imaging Pact formed in January of '06 was a 10 year agreement. I'm pretty positive that Pact would still be in tact in '09.
Aside from all that, the way these photos have surfaced just smell like they were systematically leaked to gain hype. First, photos of a never before seen device that looks exciting. As the ballyhoo rises, clearer shots with clearer details emerge. The whole ideal feels too purposeful for it all to be a photoshop.
Motorola stock down 99%
I had no idea so many people cared.
Its not "androidphones.com" engadget. It's androphones.com
Touche -- thanks.
Kudos for the speed. This is why I love engadget and hate gizmodo.
