We felt a bit out of place when waltzing into LG's very business like booth, and while we were absolutely devoid of suit and tie, we weren't unappreciative of all the beauty seen here on the Xnote P510. First
spotted just under a month ago, this here lappie is an immediate eye-catcher in person. The entire palm rest of made of a rubberized material (trackpad included), and there's even a vibration function to provide noticeable feedback in the pad if you're into that sort of thing. The build was sturdy, the keys were delightful to touch and the flush trackpad was simply luscious. In case you couldn't tell, we were nearly booted from the booth from drooling all over the demo unit. We still couldn't pry out a price, but we overheard one of those aforementioned suits bragging to his buddy that he'd have one "next month." Grab a tissue and jump down to the gallery below.
and the tissue's for... what exactly?
yea, i... actually grabbed one... :\
Why can't they seem to understand the value of adding a back-lit keyboard to these otherwise spectacular rigs?
There must be porn playing on it.
i say it doesn't need one (probly cuz im used to not having backlit keys).
this thing is sick. its definitely on my list... i just wanna let go of the tissue already :(
I didn't realize how important the backlight was on my keyboard until I started bringing it into the living room with me. My wife watches TV while I play games, pretty nice way of relaxing together. Anyway, the lights are usually off with the only ambient light emanating from the TV screen and my laptop screen. Even though my keyboard is silver, it still doesn't reflect enough light to be seen clearly which is why the backlight is worth having and worth searching for a new laptop with such a feature. My poor MacBook Pro has reached it's third birthday and with it's aging graphics and degraded battery, I think it is time to be looking for it's successor.
Thanks for the specs and decent photo!
The 64GB SSD + 500GB HD combo is innovative, but personally I'd prefer a 128GB SSD and an external drive. Connectivity looks good, including an esata/usb and HDMI. The biggest frustration is that now that nvidia has announced the Geforce 160M that the P510 only has a 130M.
Whoa... stay classy, LG.
that pad looks like it will end up frustrating to use, unless im missing something
Still don't understand the high f-stops in some of these pictures. I mean your doing a review, not trying to be artsy fartsy about it. Right? At least some of the pictures were entirely in focus. Now not focusing on the people in the back ground i could understand.
either way it is a pretty nice machine. very attractive.
They're Apple lovers...it's in their juice.
I've noticed that in a lot of the photos. It wouldn't be that annoying if they included the basic pictures of the component from all sides so I can get a good idea of the how some things stack up with the rest of the case, like the port layout.
I'm feeling very, very old here. I understand the appeal of a smaller notebook (But the march to paper thin seems pointless to me), and features are always nice.
But what's up with the focus on the aesthetics? Is the market THAT big for the Starbucks sitters who crave notebook envy?
In schools these days, does a pretty computer get you laid more?
Why do computer aethetics get so much play at Engadget?
Amen! Give me some clunky sub-10lb laptop with similar specs to a high-end gaming rig and I'm a happy man. Save the money spent on prettying up the thing and spend it on what really counts, the internals. You'd be surprised how far some utilitarian looks can go.
Too many Apples a day.
Slick!!! If the processor is a good speed, with 4GB RAM that could be a potential candidate for my next laptop...now as long as I can play Diablo III when it comes out I'm set.
After all that window dressing- an external optical drive?
Pass.
Is there a point in dropping stickers on the laptop? I'm sure you could just know what OS, chip maker, and whatever by looking on the box or in the manual, or even on the computer.
Stickers can be tacky, and sometimes difficult to peel off.
