The Nautiz X5 is the smartphone for your rough and tumble user on the go
Ever drop a phone and spend a few unpleasant moments cringing with anticipation of the flimsy shattering noise it will make when it ends its journey on the ground, battery asunder and various pieces scattered to the winds? We've all been there, which makes a rugged smartphone like the Nautiz X5 a little more appealing than it would otherwise be based purely on aesthetics alone. It's been rated IP65 (two marks higher than Sony's recent semi-rugged GXD-L64H1 LCD), meaning it's completely dust-proof and can stand up to a heavy shower, but also sports modern conveniences like a 3 megapixel camera with LED flash, a barcode scanner, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g, and a 3.5-inch VGA LCD through which you can get your Windows Mobile 6.1 on. All that is powered by an 806MHz Marvell CPU with 256MB of RAM, meaning it's not only beefy on the outside. No word on price or availability, but don't expect all that heft to come cheap.

thanks
Ha but seriously, made you think about it!!!
huh?
Hold up there. It can stand up to a heavy shower AND sports a 3 megapixel camera?! Sexy facebook profile pictures here I come!
It is ugly and has the wrong OS, but nevertheless: I want!
There are by far not enough rugged phones out there.
Deuche ex Machina - I completely agree with you! The big ones really have a knack for taking a pounding and coming back for more. Speaking of which... how's your Mom doing these days?
Oink, oink, that's a tubby little piggy of a phone. Though, in my experience, the chubby ones are more apt to accept the rough treatment.
WIFI ANY1?
802.11b/g mean anything?
802.11b/g is Wifi
It has it.
806 MHz processor!
That's great, most of the rugged phones are slow.
Heh I bet Obama's glad he doesn't have one of these...it's pretty fug.
Double Tax for saying "Obama"
sounds good, but it looks kinda like a toy:(
My Tilt has gone down the stairs a few times, but still held up alright minus a few nicks and scuffs. With this I would be more interested in the barcode scanner and the rugged features. Seems like a nice platform to build some inventory management apps with. Symbol already has some WM devices that are used for this, but they don't also include phones.
Ny Neice has gone through 35 phones in the last two years, I want one of these for her. Either that or they should put her in their commercial. She has managed to destroy some expensive phones(3 iphone orig and 5 new,3 htc touch diamond, etc)
I don't understand how or why your niece keeps getting new phones. Does she pay for them herself?
O.o That's a lot of phones. I got a basic model Nokia when I was 16, and it lasted me a good 5 years!
Anyway, I like this thing. I'll have to put it on my watch list.
Holy shit that's crazy. I don't understand how everyone is so clumsy with their devices (phones, iPods/mp3 players, etc). I think I've dropped my iPod touch twice (not long falls, either and I've had it for well over a year) and my phone probably twice too. It's not that difficult to hold on to/keep track of this stuff...
Must rugged electronics be so ugly?
Whoa... 806mhz marvell, check... 4400mah battery, check... 3.5" VGA, check... water/dust/drop proof, check... this looks like an awesome phone. And the inclusion of all those buttons will make playing emulators a breeze. My only complaint is the size. If that thing is really 6 inches long, there is no way I'm going to replace my HTC Advantage x7501 with an even BIGGER device. Here's hoping that was a typo!
PS - I wonder what kinda trouble I could get in with that barcode scanner.... hmmmmm...
Yea really wtf is the point of a barcode scanner?
@aj121489
Its for industrial applications like checking freight cartons or other barcodes on products for inventory or claims purposes. My uncle works for a company up in Des Moines that makes just PDAs with the same features but with WIFI. They are used in shipping areas to report claims for damaged goods. Scan the carton, take a picture of the damage, send off the claim via WIFI.
... all those modern features and it only weighs six kilograms!
Also a 4400mAh battery is FREAKING HUGE.
I love how it says "Handheld" on the front... just in case you forgot what you were using...
