Nokia confirms North American 5800 3G reception issues have been fixed

"Following the introduction of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic in North America, some consumers reported difficulties connecting with the local 3G network. As customer satisfaction and product quality are a priority for Nokia, we took immediate action by temporarily suspending sales and moving quickly to identify the root cause and resolution.
We have concluded this was an isolated situation related to a configuration change in the North American variant. We have now adjusted the configuration and will resume sales shortly. Those few customers of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic who experience a 3G signal issue are advised to contact Nokia Customer Care. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience."

sure
Nice!
Yes... Human horn... alien afrodisiac on Omecron Persei 8...
Yeah, but the phone still sucks, gimme a N97 and I might abandon my touchFLo and Touch wiz devices. Maybe.
Probably.
At least if nothing better shows up.
I abandoned a TouchWiz device for this because it's a better phone than my Omnia.
How's that Sony working for u,??I still got my eyes set on that laptop.
Wow Engadget are you telling me that you are not longer going to talk about this issue?
I'm so sick of this phone being talked about in every 8th article.

Aww, po Andrew, doesn't know how to not read articles that he doesn't care about, and knows even less about replying to articles he doesn't care about.
Seriously?
Get a life.
Hmm, that is a very good point Mikee.
You're right, we should've ignored the fact that Nokia has announced a fix and the fact that the phone will be back on sale again shortly. Could've substituted it with some awesome iPhone app news, I'm sure!
Stupid, stupid, STUPID Andrew Swanson gets the "Idiot of the day Award" for the worst comeback response ever.
Yeah buddy, then i guess we all must need lives if we post on internet blogs.
4 words, Get the f**K out!
I guess i get the jackass of the day award, but i couldnt let this one slip.
Wow, what a selfish, narrow-minded a-hole. You realize that several Engadget readers pre-ordered this phone and that we've been anticipating each update to find out if we're going to be waiting forever for our phones, or if those who bought it will be able to get it fixed. Man, I feel sorry for engadget. They have to put up with ignorant posters like you on a daily basis. If they post an iPhone article they get marauded for being paid off by Apple. They can't post any articles criticizing Windows Mobile, even though Microsoft is criticized in every other journalistic outlet, without being lambasted. And when they do criticize Apple (which does happen), no one bats an eye. Now they can't even inform us Nokia fanboys about pressing updates because.... why? Cause you Andrew Swanson are personally tired of it? Moron.
Thats a good news... and thanks engadged for a very well report about this phone!
I think it's better for music, the same when comparing the phone part of the device, but worse for a number of other things.
However, the little bugger doesn't keep time accurately. I swear that after 10 days or so, it's clock is 5 minutes behind.....
(I have the Euro version, btw)
Yeah I noticed the clock is a bit iffy. Hopefully the V20 firmware will sort that.
So is this now best music phone known to man???
Will it truly replace an iPod touch????
Will you shut up?
Well, that is why I am not an early adopter of any product. It seems to be best to wait for the initial production run units to get out there in the wild, and see if there are any issues.
LOL.. no software update? And the commenters here bash on the iPhone? Lowest ranked here I come!!
Funny then that three days ago I updated mine (european model) I think they got this wrong in the article, the phone is capable of beeing upgraded both using a usb cable or over the air. But maybe just this firmware isn't made available since it's just a bug fix for a few phones.
Now if only worked with T-Mobile 3G...
:-(
just about to say that, im right there with you but i have to say it myself
Now we need a version for T-Mobile's 3G, there were rumors T-Mobile was goin to sign this phone by summer, but haven't heard anything since that, still may be a good investment to buy thou, but I'll be scared to buy this if I could possibly get it that actually works on a T-Mobile band this summer. So I dont know
Honestly, I just gotta say, I love unboxing technology :D
My Nokia N95 is running fine and dandy though, so I can't hope for Nokia to give me a new one :(
Nobody mentioned the most important feature for business users.. Being able to search for emails, contacts and calendar entries!!! There is a google app that only does contacts so far..
I jus got off the phone with Nokia Customer Care and they said that there will be a software update soon!!
This is a class Phone, sure it has bugs, but no more or less than any other phone.
I used it to replace my Itouch, and i'll be honest, Its got better sound Quality
works perfectly fine on fido in canada. icon when downloading even says 3.5g. it is very fast. best bang for buck smartphone ever.
