Ready for the duel of the 18.4-inchers at
CeBIT? Just yesterday we took a look at Acer's ginormous
Aspire 8930, and today we popped in at
Clevo's booth to snap a few shots of its mammoth
M980NU. While the girth was impossible to not notice, the palm rest, keyboard and top control panel were downright ritzy. Yeah, the all-gloss finish was a fingerprint magnet, but we can't say it wasn't drop-dead sexy when wiped clean. Regrettably, we couldn't figure out how to get that incredibly annoying plastic lock thing off of the keys, so we can't personally verify whether this thing can handle the stresses of
Quake I. Sorry, we tried.
WTH is the n10 gpu...
i have the exact same question.
im guessing this will be a barebone laptop?...that looks awesome...except for those "G" keys...and not liking the 1920x1080...looks so flat...id prefer 1920x1200...
From first hand experience, I have to agree that 1920x1080 is a bit vertically challenged as far as real estate goes. Except when watching a Blu-ray movie.
for laptops id rather have the realestate....movies look the same at 1080 and 1200
wrong, provided the screen size stayed the same, movies would look smaller on WUXGA vs 1080
and modern games would lose pixel density, yes, but 90% of the games give more viewing area on wider screens rather than less, so you'd see more, even though it would be slightly less sharp
a smarter move for an 18" laptop would be to go to WQXGA, but it's not even caught on in for external LCDs yet
dayum.....
I love your avatar!
I think the word laptop should imply some sort of sensible portability, say beyond the range of just your house.
desktop replacement laptops have their uses, especially for people who need super powerful computers for various things such as cad n visual design.. then there's the gamers who just want some portability.
Why do they even have a keyboard lock? Is the case reference design done, but the internal hardware nonfunctioning? That's kind of lame on Clevo's part; everyone wants actual benchmarks.
Gotta hand it to Clevo though, they've kept up the tradition for being the biggest and baddest for just about forever.
Repost?

so lost
nope.. this is a news flash from Cebit in Germany n the first time they've seen it in person or sumthin
yeah....engadget's "hands on", "eyes on", "first look", etc system of describing thins can be very confusing sometimes. (not sarcasm.)
Why do all laptop manufacturer's think glossy = good. Sure a glossy screen makes it look pretty when turned off, but when you turn it on unless you are in total darkness it is a freakin' mirror. I want to be able to see what's on the screen... not my own reflection. This looks even worse since they brought glossy to the wrist rest as well... it doesn't look good and will be uber smudged in seconds.
All companies use glossy screens and glossy everything now because they want to show you how dirty your hands are. CPADH (Clean People Against Dirty Hands) flew the worlds top 5 notebook manufactures to Wellington New Zealand. There they held a meeting were they offered each manufacture $ 4.2 billion worth of rhino eggs in exchange for them to start using glossy screens. This way anytime you touch a notebook screen and leave oily fingerprints or tap a touch screen, you might think about washing your hands. I am pretty sure this is accurate information.
I'm just wondering if they have the keyboard lock out of experience; how quick can someone seriously mess up the OS?
Start/run/cmd/fdisk? You know some punk is gonna try it.
Glossy screens are cool.
Glossy palmrests are not.
I'd hate to clean that daily.
Oh,my god! Why is everybody criticating the notebook, its glossy to look beautiful, its FHD in place of WUXGA because of the aspect ratio (16:9),Nvidia N10 means in some kind of weird way Nvidia SLI GTX280M and it has integrated Nvidia Geforce 9400M in hybrid SLI,up t 8 GB of DDR3 RAM memory and up to 1,5 TB of HD or SSD!
Sexy
Would love to give it a try.
Wow what an introduction! It will receive a great welcome!
I really Love with this one.It is too smart and More useful for Gaming.
wonder if it'll cost less than the $2200+ I paid for my HP HDX 18t (including warranty). I love the chicklet-style keyboard on the Clevo but will it compete price-wise with the other 18-inch laptops out there?
sorry.. but i don't see what the benefit of having such a huge laptop.. The size makes it completely unportable and it seems more logical to just get a desktop for less than half which would be essentially just as portable.
This baby will be available SOON from :
