this is bad for the devs and bad for apple rep with developers. what you don't get is that iphone is sexy for devs because they can profit from it. the minute cydia will start selling stuff people will pirate it and everything will go to hell.
it was nice while it lasted, I should have sold the app I made instead of giving it for free. oh well.
Apps from the appstore are pirated the same day they are released. Sometimes within hours. Paid applications from Cydia seem to be a lot harder to crack. There are still many payed apps from Cydia that still have yet to be pirated and updates take months sometimes to get hacked. Updateds from appstore apps are pirated the same day.
actually he's right, there are a lot of cydia apps that cost money (swirlymms and bitesms come to mind right off the bat). they are very useful apps that you can only use once your phone has been jailbreaked.
Ok.. didn't know that, I thought you pay through other means. anyway, using a jailbroken platform to sell stuff is a bad idea to begin with. I understand that its not exactly like stealing the machine, but it is subverting the use of the software, even if not directly - it gives rise to people with less-than-honest intentions to steal.
Certain apps from Cydia are free demos with the option to buy the full version included. Those are generally programs that extend the iPhone's hardware, like the video recorder and the camera extensions.
It seems like alot of the people posting have never jailbroken their phones let alone read the replying statement made to applefrom the EFF about "bending their software".
Adult app store= whatever, if it does start to look shady no one is gonna buy shit from the place.
Most apps that u pay for in cydia are done through paypal already. Plus no one says you have to jailbreak. The response from saurik was that he wants to give people options and the freedom to choose those options.
Check out www.irealsms.com and check this messaging app out.You download it through cydia, then pay through the site or paypal. It has landscape texting, autorotate, forwarding texts, deletion of individual sent or received texts, reply in any app wihout closing it, save certain texts as a template plus more. This replaces the shitty options the main SMS app doesn't have. Apple should have put this in their from the start right??
Mms, copy paste, turn by turn gps, the ability to customize your phone,and apps like the one mentioned above are available only through jailbreaking your damn phone. Sucks right?? Are the risks worth it when you pay so much? Shouldn't apple have put this in already, well they haven't, so until then you either wait or get it through jb.
This is what the EFF talks about. The this type of allegedly bending or breaking the rules according to apple, is what fosters innovation. They said when we buy a car they don't seal the hood shut so you can't work on it. You have an option to put stuff into it whether that stuff voids your warranty or not. If you read the response from the eff, you will why this is an issue against peoples rights.
So for all of you people who are scared of what you don't know, and think all cydia apps have been free (like your buddy shul up there^) and this is some new thing, how is it differant from Handango? You think they will let shit run wild in cydia, if so then it already would have been, wouldn't you agree. We would already see bad shit happening to cydia. People hear app store in cydia and they start guessing about what's gonna happen, when they haven't even seen what's been going in cydia in the first place. Nevertheless like engadget said, either way it can have an effect on apples restrictions in their own app store. So thanks to those devs, we can win either way.
Sony's just released a 15.5-inch addition to its VAIO S Series that not only adds a crucial bit of extra display acreage, but also bumps things up to a full 1080p.

@jimbeam
are you kidding me? the cydia apps don't cost money, why would anyone want to pirate them?
