Aliens PS3 case mod is staggeringly ugly to non-fans
Adding even more credibility to the whole "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" mantra is this... masterpiece / abomination. Inspired by the iconic Aliens films, this completely over the top PlayStation 3 case mod is about as ridiculous as it gets. We're not really told how the modder went about crafting this lovely interpretation, but we are given a few more snapshots to gawk at in the read link -- which you won't visit unless you too are an Aliens freak, but hey, that's cool.

Although, its not really... stylish, more of a "what the hell have you done?"
Am I alone in thinking that these case mod posts need to cease immediately? What does this topic have to do with technology? At least limit them to Joystiq.
i remember seeing a guy set a PS3 on fire
the end result looked incredibly similar to this
Kewl concept... I give a ton of credit for the amount of effort that went into this case project. For those of you talking s**t, let's see you come up with something better. I read so many trash talking m-f's on forums, threads, and articles, that it just further assures my opinion of people. So good job looking like complete s**t-eating a-holes... Yes, I just brought myself in the direction of your level (though not quite so far down). Back to the case... I think it's a great attempt, but I think it could have been better. Firstly, the alien's head could have been better represented. Second, as I've worked with epoxy putty (though not so much with 2-min cure variety) I know how much of a pain it can be to work, but with some more sanding (files, sand paper, and more sand paper) the final product would have come out with a smoother surface (as with the alien's head). Finally, using a color shifting (black base, purple/green color shift) paint under a ton of gloss would have set the rest of it completely off.... Anyway, good work, I'd like to see future editions and see how each one grows (figuratively speaking) from the experience learned creating previous pieces.
I'm sure you put a lot of work into this, but I really don't think it's worthy to be put on the front page of one of the largest tech/gadget blogs in the webosphere.
And I hope for the sake of your self-confidence that you didn't yourself send in this to engadget. As others have said, or implied, if the headline hadn't said "Alien PS3 mod" I never would've guessed wtf it was supposed to be. It may not be downright butt ugly, but I'm sure you can admit that it's not exactly the most elegant "mod" in the ever-expanding book.
All I'm saying is, be proud of your work, but not quite this proud.
you are now one of them..
"I read so many trash talking m-f's on forums, threads"
u no better than everyone else pff @ you
The title is a little strange, there's obviously many alien fans here who dislike it also. Should be "Aliens PS3 mod is staggeringly ugly to some, a godsend to others, and to everyone else just plain balls" It looks like someone took an Alien, somehow melted it onto a PS3, and then dried it on there. Then, broke the fingers off and used super glue to insert them onto the PS3.
It's certainly creative though.
wow...that is one fugly ass mofo
More like Geiger inspiried...
Thanks for the great photograph.
Guys come on. Give the creator a break. Sure it's ugly as sin but you can't deny it's creative. If I may paraphrase, art is in the eye of the creator.
FUGLY, yo!
That "thing" really disgust me, ruined my appetite, causes me to have nightmares. Seriously, I just bought a ps3 recently, it is beautiful, shiny and I love it to bits...now it is like a molded bread and rotted meat. Damn you!
Nice job!
The PS3 is to good of a looking machine to even think of moding it. Just leave it alone.
I saw the picture before the headline and thought the poor thing caught fire.
"Game Over Man GAME OVER!"
Dude, I am a Fan and that is one ugly case!

When I read that headline I was expecting something 'Nostromo' themed or within the 'space marine' realm - to literally put the alien on top was not my first thought. I'm ok with the top, which appears to be the alien curled up waiting to strike or maybe it's in gestation, but I don't really care for the fingers. As far as 'Alien' themes go, at least it's not squirting white liquid everywhere like that 'Ash is a Robot!' themed PS3 from last week. Ok, I made that last one up.
ugh! barf!
