ASUS showcases HD-minded Eee Top ET2203 and ET2003
Amongst many, many other things at CeBIT, ASUS also found time to showcase two new Eee Top all-in-one PCs, though it completely failed to make any deal of it at all. In fact, it didn't even bother hosting up specifications placards, leaving us curious as to what these offer over the existing (and smaller) Eee Top machines. Aside from boasting 22- and 20-inch panels (respectively), NotebookItalia noticed that the ET2203 and ET2003 both included an HDMI socket and a Blu-ray optical drive, not to mention a natural affinity towards kitchens. We'll keep an ear to the ground for more on these in the coming weeks, but for now, you'll have to let ye old imagination handle the hard work.

A 16" 1.6ghz EeeTop is $1300 in Australia. You heard correct...$1300. I can get an iMac for $1599 or less at the refurb store (before the recent upgrades anyway). Or a Sony Vaio AIO for $1700.
I do not want to even think how much these cost.
Does it have a touchscreen?
No? Too bad.
They also had the HP 22" AIO touchscreens for $2000.
Looks like I've seen this somewhere.. hmm.. anyone?
The touch screen is resistive and probably not worth having. It really needs a Wacom (like my hp laptop) or capacitive to warrant a touchscreen...
*cough*... hp laptops dun have wacom.....
wth r u talking about, its selling 699 CDN in Canada
Nice Mirror :)
Yep, nowadays most manufacturers seem to compete on having the most reflective screen. Strange...
I think it's pretty hot, sure a little pricey but then they're aiming it at people with the taste of an Apple Fan and the brains of a Windows User.
Needless to say, it's a niche :p
Apple fans are smart for paying more for the same wintel hardware ? Hows that again ? Apple fans don't have their own taste they let their God Steve Jobs tell them what they want.
try comparing the specs, build quality, design and etc? apple spends years in designing a single model/device, most other makers spend 5p on its design and why would you think apple products are overpriced? you try to find a machine with comparable specs as imac you'd be spending pretty much the same if not more and get an uuuuugly box. apple's not for "everyone" just like a bmw, it's only for those who truly appreciate it and who is willing to pay for quality.
lots of mates around me can be fed with tesco value sausages, but is what you really want? i wouldn't have thought so...
@b: The difference between a car and a PC is that the chassis of a car is generally accepted as equivalent to your income. If you're driving an Aston you're generally regarded as someone with a good job who is successful in their career whereas someone with an Apple is just seen as someone with more money than sense who enjoys being at the mercy of the Apple Software department.
Anyone with sense runs Windows or a Linux derivative and takes the precautions to be safe while retaining access to the majority of software in the open market.
For me, a case doesn't have to be more than 5p, I only really care what's inside. It especially helps if you just keep your PC off of your desk, which is admittedly a little tougher in an all-in-one.
@ Major4Play - Yea, that's what we do. We are mindless drones that just wait for the holy one to say 'buy' and we cram Apple stores to buy whatever we can. Well, seeing that macs LOOK better than pc's, are BUILT and DESIGNED better than pc's, run a better OS than pc's, well, I'd say our god is better than your god.
I think you just proved his point by essentially saying a big part of your choice of computer is down to looks. Almost as bad as buying an iPod because it's "sexy"...it's in your pocket 95% of the time so who cares. Other than that I wouldn't say they look, are built or designed better as a PC could be anything, there's no single look or design for a PC (and I generally don't think Apple products look as good as everyone makes out or designed that well, MBA USB port for instance). As for the OS...to each their own.
That thing must be great doing lines off of.
Nice, I'm guessing these are not Atom based.
They need to make these water and scratch resistant.
Why, do you bathe your Desktop PC regularly? Or expose it to a sandstorm? A water/scratch resistant laptop I can see, a desktop? Why bother? Maybe you shouldn't set it up in the shower...
Kitchens.
Does it have to look like an iMac?
Does the iMac have to look so generic?
It's only generic because the rest of the market follows mindlessly in Apple's wake dude.
Yeah, the iMac is sooooo generic.
Well, I suppose it is now that everybody has copied the design.
The iMac's "design" is a black rectangle with rounded corners in a white rectangle with rounded corners.
How is that NOT generic?
Too glossy... but nice looking, nicer than those from MSI.
That would be great if the power button is touch sensitive (with white LED glowing? :P), just like the Apple Studio/Cinema Display
FYR, A Eee Top is selling at HK$4400 in Hong Kong (Approx. A$888)
eeeMac?
For the love of . What is with the kitchen PC fetish these companies have. We've already got that. It's called an f-ing laptop. And the whole touchscreen idea is just STOOOOOOOOPID until they invent one that is grease proof, water proof, egg proof, and peanut butter proof .
Doesn't look like an iMac at all.....
So the reflections on the screen are HD now??
HDEEE
If everyone hates Apple so much, why do they like these products that look like the stepchildren of Apple's own. Most Vegetarians don't what stuff that taste just like chicken.
As for "The Brains of Windows Users"....At least Mac user were smart enough not to buy a Zune!
Most people are smart enough to not buy a Zune. Not just Mac lovers.
I can't tell you how many times I've been making a sandwich in the kitchen and then have the sudden urge to watch Full Metal Jacket in HD. The entire movie. In the kitchen.
Thank you, ASUS, thank you for fulfilling my dream!
Yeah, Asus is THAT awesome!
So, what, is this an architecture firm showcasing its latest window and girder designs?
Holy cow!
I ABSOLUTELY HATE how on this site whenever a product that slightly(and in many cases very slightly) resembles an Apple product comes up, their is a huge fight between Apple users and the rest of the world,
So what? This just happens to have a similar look to an iMac. Well isn't that the way with everything in this crazy world we live in?!
For example: one fastfood place puts a new burger on the menu and soon everyone else does. Another example: Clothing, one big named clothing company comes up with a new idea, soon after everyone follows.
It's called TRENDS people, not that I normally follow them, but most do! They want products that are the same as what everyone else has.
Jeeeeze
It'll be interesting to see what price it sells at, and if it has a linux version (or if EeeBuntu fully supports it).
Well, until Windows 7 ships, this isn't interesting. Then it might be, depending on how deep the touch support gets, and what kind of applications supporting touch ASUS ships the things with.
Also, as kitchen PCs, these are just another extra PC. They aren't interesting if they're not cheap. And the fact that there's a Blu-Ray player in there isn't encouraging. That's the sort of thing I expect in those ridiculous HP TouchSmart computers they're trying to sell for thousands of dollars. Think Netbook pricing. Hundreds. Otherwise, forget it.
These are just for simple web browsing--checking traffic, weather, directions, phone numbers, quickly. Sure maybe streaming video and audio, but a communal calendar or stickies would be used more often.
