Linpus Linux Lite OS caught on video

We just came across this video showing the Linpus Linux Lite OS in action. Aimed squarely at netbooks and the Splashtop crowd, the operating system comes to life pretty quickly on the pictured Acer Aspire One. Unlike Splashtop, however, this isn't part of the BIOS, "just a very very minimal customized Linux version, installed on the hard disk," as the guy in the video points out. We would, however, love to know what error message is being generated when he opens the media player. See for yourself after the break.

Someone needs to tell that guy he's not Emeril.
This guy must do demos on a regular basis. Just click the error message close and act like it never happened.
You know, at first I thought the same thing, but when you think about it, it could as well be a message saying something like "This is a beta version, any changes will not be saved, blah blah blah." Anyone able to zoom?
I don't see the big deal about closing the error message since he doesn't neglect mentioning it's in beta?
I thought errors aren't unusual or unexpected when dealing with betas?
Error or not, it shows the amateurism in promoting Linux.
Secondly, scaling down an OS so that it only offers 5 services isn't the golden path to speed-improvement. It's the good old YouDontNeedThat(TM) of Linux: users are desperate for wifi, drivers, sound support but no, lets work on polish some more.
This guy looks like a giant next to that computer. What is he, twelve feet tall?
I decided to race that against my AAO which is running the normal linpus lite, was only 5 seconds slower. That new version doesn't seem all that much better for the fuss they're making over it.
This is just a different skin on the same thing. the linux version of the Aspire One comes with Linpus Lite. All that this video has is a new front end.
I was going to say...
I can't watch the vid at work, but Linpus Light is the included Linux OS on the Aspire one and it is already fast as hell (one of the biggest advantages over the windows version). Though if the new version is even faster, then woo hoo for me!
Even so, being able to being an instant-OS (like) functionality to any pc would be really nice. I wouldn't mind having one residing on a small 1Gb partition on my Windows7 laptop. If I'm in a hurry, I would just pop the lid open and I could know that it's going to load in 1/1 of the time. Also maybe not so power hungry? Would be a good option to preserve some battery.
"...trying to "FAKE" around?"
Freud would say he's faking it...
Freud has some seriously weird theories.
werd, homeboy's gotsta chill
shmoke an a pancake?
bong and a blintz?
pipe and a crepe?
Burger and fries?
Is not a computer is a PCEEE
Oh, grow up!
here's the real question:
pay 20$ for xandros presto or wait until moblin is done?
I'd say "wait, let me think about it."
From what we saw on early alphas of Moblin you will have to wait a loong time before it's actually ready... But why go to shitty xandros? There are much better choices out there
Like?
Lin...pus?
not just xandros...google presto
not just basil, google pesto
prestos not available until the 16th and currently you have to have windoze installed to use it :o(
When does Linux NOT desplay an error message?
Funny, now that you mention it, both my Linux computers display a couple error messages when booting up, ie. always (I removed the splash screens)
However, despite the errors, everything works perfectly well. Unlike in Windoze, on which an error means you're screwed.
Hence the 0.9% market share.
You only get errors on boot because that's pretty much all you can do with Linux.
Hence the M$ market share, they bundle they're freaking OS in every PC with really supid SKUs like Vista Starter, so everybody who isn't a geek or partially one, will get a PC with Windows no matter what they want. Not to mention that Windows shows errors all the time, and as DarkLight mentioned, one error can mean you'll have to restart your pc (if it doesn't by itself). It's not about the OS quality that puts the OS on the market, it's (lol) the marketing of the company ;)
So, MSFan-Boys, stop the crap. Every OS has it's good and bad things.
ps. i'm using XP and i still love it the way it is even if i get errors all the time. but i would use linux for everyday computing (like office, email, skype, etc)
So you're comparing linux with an OS which is almost 8 years old ?
That's not exactly fair, linux has the driver-support and app-stability of Win3.11
And before you give me the standard linux bullcrap about how it changed hugely in recent times
I suggest to have a look at this little vid from a long long time ago, then tell me what has changed on the linux desktop since:
http://www.intercom.co.cr/media/991214_linux.wmv
Then again, a MS FanBoy would give a response like that.
First than anything, I wasn't comparing Linux with XP, it was with Viscrap.
Secondly, you proved to be a "guy microsoft points their OS to". Why ? You are only looking at the visuals. Yay! Effects!!
Dude, in Linux with compiz-fusion you have like 50 times better effects for the Visuals than in Viscrap, the oh so revolutionary visual OS. Not to mention, it requires 100 less PC power compared to that Aero crap.
And, adding on top of all this, an OS shouldn't be ONLY APPEARENCE like Vista's objectives were (which actually...was an epic fail). It's about stability, functionality and ease of use. Did you check how Windows is magaing the RAM since the first one ? Do you know how the filesystem works with it ? It's pure sheat! Almost every linux is 100 times better at the memory managment, and it's one of the MOST MOST MOST important thing an Operating System should do, which is ADMINISTRATING RESOURCES. Microsoft doesn't administrate them, MS EATS the resources so you have to get a better pc and pay for it.
YES, linux fails at a large list of stuff, but the things that can equally do than windows...it's FAR better (fails in ease of use for example*). And i'm talking about Mac too.
Not to mention, in the case of Linux, it's maintained by communities with ideals, not a bunch of people working on separated parts to join them together after (it's one of the main reasons why a lot of stuff crash in windows itself). And that's why most of the time it's hard to get the drivers and stuff, because they're closed source, making it REALLY hard to do something if you can't understand how it works.
I would also like to mention stuff about Solaris too which is a pretty nice OS too, like it's awesome filesystem...but i don't know anything about that OS.
* But in the actual today, linux is being more and more easy to use for the "normal people" and you don't Have to be a geek using a 2 colors console (you'll have 500% better results using that way tho)
Then again, i'm not a linux-fanboy nor a mac-fanboy (never had a mac), i'm a Facts-fanboy. And, i'd like to mention again that i'm happy with my XP SP2 with an ocational error message.
Learn before you say such stupid things again, please do yourself a favor and get informed First. :)
Forgot to say that Vista has some good stuff under the hood too...to bad it's a lot less stuff than the bad things.
Forgot to say that Vista has some good stuff under the hood too....
Too bad it's like 35% of the entire OS.
btw, i meant "managing the RAM", not "magaing", typo.
