Yeah, why are they doing this? There's absolutely no way Palm isn't paying for a little extra coverage.. It's kind of hard to believe that the final review on the Pre and upcoming comparisons aren't going to be blatantly biased when they're obviously in bed with each other.
I wish Engadget could make enough money elsewhere so stunts like this weren't necessary.
It's hard to not appear "in bed with each other" when the issue surrounds a product that speaks so highly for itself. The Pre is hyped up and everyone wants a piece of it because it's a gadget very worthy of the attention. Naturally people will want in on the ride. And honestly, the more people behind it the better the chances of (I now think deservedly) saving a plucky American company (Palm).
All the better for me, cuz I'm perfectly happy to support Palm by picking one of these up if they return the favor by not closing their doors.
My first thought after watching that was, 'Wow, how much did that cost Palm?' Seriously, it's as if Joshua was a sales person for Palm. He may be passionate about their product, but there is so much more more to talk about Engadget in general, than just Palm's latest handset. I think it's unfair to down-rank those who see a commercial side to this, it certainly seemed that way to me. The interview was pretty entertaining, but I'd be more interested to hear about the Engadget phenomenon than simply the Palm Pre.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Free publicity? I wonder if there was some sort of a tri-way deal between Palm-engadget-LNWJF/NBC...
