Apple store down: 4GB iPod shuffle on the way?
Yeah, we know, the Apple Store's down. We had presumed it to be regular maintenance since it's not Tuesday and there's not a single Apple rumor in the mix that would warrant such a quiet product launch. Then we peeped MacRumors and low and behold Arn's got a source claiming 4GB iPod shuffles (up from 2GB) are on the way in black, silver, and possibly other colors. Makes sense to us.

Who cares? Does anyone care? You can get a 4GB mp3 player for $20 with a built in coffee maker from any other company.
...but it won't be white or have the well-worth-the-extra-price Apple logo on it.
Um.... because it's Apple?
What's Apples policy if you just bought say a 2GB and then a day later the 4GB one comes out? If say the new 4GB was the same price as the old 2GB - would it simply be a free upgrade?
I believe if it's unopened, you could return it for a full refund at the original purchase price if within their 30-day return policy. If the item is opened and within 30 days, I think there is a 10% restocking fee. That may also mean the cost of the 2GB would drop, so you could also just get a price adjustment if it's within 30 days.
It's a minimalist keyboard with just one key so you can type in morse code, just as it has always been intended to do.
The shuffle is such a silly music player. Upgrades are always good though, so bring it on.
The only good that comes from the shuffle is that it's good for jogging...you don't have to buy any armbands or anything like that. It's small, light and clips right on you. I'm not saying I like it....I hate that you cant see what songs are what and all that and that it's only 2GB...but meh...
My next MP3 player is going to be the Sansa View I think...iPods are nice I guess...but kinda ridiculous and expensive...the view has many more built in features....and yeah it might not be as flashy or smooth as the iPod but it works plain and simple.
10 day no fuss return policy
I'm still amazed that they have to take the whole store down to add products. Imagine if Amazon did that!
I can't even track an order right now WTF?!?
It's ridiculous. As if the whoe store needs to be taken down because of a minor product update!
This website took the p*ss out of it pretty well: http://digital-lifestyles.info/2009/03/05/apple-and-the-daft-yellow-sticky-note/
i believe that this is more of a marketing trick. every single time the apple store is down every website reports and and creates a hype and expectation almost immediately. but i'm sure it only works with apple, microsoft? no chance!
That is one thing that I have never been able to understand. For as many things as they do right as a company, they always seem to screw up the simple things.
Agreed b, Apple Inc. is quite a drama queen.
If they replace a single page at a time the website wont link to other pages correctly, and people will get error messages when they move around the site. With how many people visit the Apple Store a day, it's best just to shut it down.
At least, that's my thoughts.
'lo' Mr Ricker. 'lo'. Sorry, pet peeve of mine.
thank god i'm not the only one!
Thanks for saving me the trouble of posting that myself.
30" LED?
Woot! finally iPhone 3G for Malaysia!
apple still made 2 gb players? what's the deal with these players anyway? sd cards, cf cards, and even the flash memory inside usb memory sticks hold so much at reasonable prices, why not just use this technology inside of it?
Because Apple doesn't believe that people should use expansion cards for whatever reason.....
YAWN*
This makes more sense than this 4gb shuffle nonsense
News from ilounge.com site
"Chinese hackers crack iTunes Store gift codes, sell certificates
March 10, 2009 iTunes digg this
A group of Chinese hackers has succeeded in cracking Apple’s algorithm for encoding iTunes Store Gift Certificates, and are creating discounted certificates using a key generator. Outdustry reports that a number of the codes are available on the site Taobao, with $200 cards selling for as little as $2.60. The owner of the Taobao shop offering the cards admitted that the codes are created using key generators, and that he paid to use the hackers’ service. He also said that while the price of the codes has dropped steadily, store owners make more money as the number of customers grows."
I see it now!
"New shuffle compared to old shuffle" "New shuffle compared to ipod touch" "New shuffle compared to iphone" "New shuffle overview" "New shuffle round-up" "What you missed this week at engadget: New Shuffle edition"
So true...
Haha :D
Ha! Funny and all too true at the same time.
"Makes sense to us."
It doesn't to me. A shuffle-only player makes sense if its capacity is limited: at 4GB, you need a way to find a particular song/album.
Agreed, when will this "shuffle" gimmick be over? Give it a damn screen already or dump it from the lineup.
40" HD Netbook here we come!!!!!
It is the all new mighty mouse.
I bet its the new Apple TV with HD DVR built in and also it gets HDTV from the Internet but over the air so you don't need a good connection.
Worthless mindless speculators.
I bet its the new I-POD where the I stands for InnerEar. Its like just headphones but its actually the player!

Don't ask why I'm on the Indonesian store :P
Okay, it's on the American store now
It's back up and it's a totally new iPod Shuffle... Back to the old styling... And they added a 4GB.
Wow, completely redesigned shuffle, looks kinda cool. Makes me rethink the nano i was gonna get. eh, nah not really.
Yeah it's legit. A little bit bigger in dimensions but 4GB. Comes in black and silver
VoiceOver. It speaks for itself.
With the press of a button, VoiceOver tells you what song is playing and who's performing it.2 It tells you the names of your playlists, too.
New shuffle!, are they fucking shitting me...4GB, $80 and they cant throw a screen on that bastard, fuuuck that!
The new iPod Shuffle is......................
EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol yea there is no other word for it, 80usd for something that a 8gb cheap chinese version costs half .
Its also almost .2 oz lighter too. guess no buttons. Which leads to a big problem. How the hell are you supposed to use anything other than the crappy included buds. Unless they include the new upgraded ones, but those are $79 by themselves so i guess no. Kinda sucks for people who use these for running and working out with sport headphones.
did they not think of that, or are they going to come out with their own sport headphones?
yeah, it is finally out, I love it. It is tiny and has so many features in it. Awesum
http://nzmobiles.com/mp3-players/53-apple/62-the-new-4gb-apple-ipod-shuffle.html
It also comes equiped with EPIC FAIL!!!! earbugs with volume control on them and that's the only way to adjust volume. Which means, you're stuck with Appel or other epic fail overpriced licensed earbugs to come. I'm desapointed.
Anyway, I'm just waiting on a 64GB ipod touch...
removable storage, when?
removable batteries, when?
http://www.apple.com/batteries/replacements.html
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/battery/
It's 2009.
Stop the waste.
Apple will NEVER do that.
Most Sansa products do though :) My Fuze has a micro SD card slot, I have 4gb in it right now.
Remember, Apple consumers want a product as thin as possible with nothing to ruin the lines except a headphone jack and usb slot.
Or you could get an 4gb sansa clip at best buy for around $60...AND it has a screen and mini-USB. And if you search well enough, you can find an 8gb online(amazon maybe) for about the same price as this Shuffle.
