Samsung sneaks Q2 PMP onto the scene with 50 hours of battery life
Looking for a PMP that can hang with you for every last minute of the long weekend, eh? Just in case MSI's MS-5552 is a bit too aged for your tastes, Samsung has quietly introduced a newcomer (the Q2, but not that Q2) which promises 50 solid hours of audio playback on a single charge. Specs wise, we're looking at a 2.4-inch QVGA display, built-in microphone, FM radio module, 8GB / 16GB of flash storage and little else. As for file support, this little bugger will play nice with MP3, WMA, OGG, FLAC, WMV and MPEG-4, though the lack of WiFi and Bluetooth keeps us from really, truly falling in love. There's no word on a price just yet, but we get the feeling we'll have to snoop around in due time for that as well.

FIRST off bah with my outdated palm TX and Coreplayer and PowerSDHC (app to support SDHC) I not only can run 16+gb cards but can play ALL formats (mpg, mp4, 3gp, flv (no need to convert youtube flv files then..)
knowing that i can play all these file formats without conversion is awesome, and I don't see the need to get a fancy new PMP that only support a few formats...
Thought that was a joke until I saw your name (@ ihenchman#1) and thought most likely a iDiot.

I guess you have never heard of Cowon.
50 hours is kinda neat though
Also the lack of a fruit shaped logo.
They're ready to throw in WiFi and bluetooth just to make sure you don't have desired 32gb memory???
Sucks...
PS: I really hate that kind of touch control... had a device with it.
y eyes wont last 50 hours with that 2.4" screen
WHY would you need WiFi? They don't have application or streaming support so why would the absence of Wifi put you off? I agree on the bluetooth part.
Yeah man... I hate that touch pad they use all the time. I want to be able to stuff this thing in my pocket and change tracks, volume, etc. without having to take it out. Blind control is $$$
I wish they would've made it tactile... reminiscent of the T9 would be nice !
It is clear to everyone this won't be replacing iPod touch anytime soon. I only see uninformed consumers getting stuck with this. Hello touch as low as $179 after gift card!!!!
I feel dirty responding to Shugg but here it goes.
iPod Touch 8/16/32GB
$229/$299/$399 (That $179 you're claiming is for used ones)
Claimed battery life: 36 hours
Real world battery life: ~10 hours
Real world battery life with wifi on: 3 hours.
This PMP
$? Probably less than $229
Claimed battery life: 50 hours
Real world battery life:? Probably not too far off from 50 because it doesn't have wifi or any other battery sucking features.
Obviously this MP3 player is for people that don't want to have to recharge every day, or who travel a lot. Most likely it's business users. They've already got a PDA so there's no point in them getting another one with the iPod Touch. It's meant to be put in your briefcase and forgot about until you want to listen to some music.
This looks superb. I also quite liked the Q1 Diamond. This should have had at least bluetooth if not wifi. One question: Does this support BBC iplayer like the Q1 does ?
So i'm guessing no one cares about sound quality anymore and everyone is satisfied with the Ipod sound signatures? I guess now of days where the Mp3 tracks are deemed excellent, the inclusion of FLAC, OGG, and other superb music file formats are unnecessary and what the people really want is style, a capacitive touch screen, and wifi internet capabilities which will cripple the PORTABLE MEDIA PLAYER and only allow up to a good handful of hours of use of the device which means i can't listen to music or play my videos if i accidentally forget to turn wifi off?
Give me A sound signature i can call my own and a sound quality that will melt my ears. You can have the rest. I have a cell phone for my WIFI internet browsing.
I like it ... there is a market for basic players that don't include Bluetooth and WiFi ... I just want something that has a decent UI, plenty of storage and decent sound quality in a small package.
If it came in 32Gb I'd take it.
I kind of like the UI
