Sirius XM developing iPhone / iPod touch streaming radio app
My, my -- now isn't this something? Shortly after narrowly avoiding a dastardly collision with bankruptcy, Sirius XM is looking to connect itself with profitable enterprises in an attempt to build market share and regain interest from budget-conscience consumers. Just weeks after hearing that the sat radio company could be preparing a few Sirius / DirecTV bundles, CFO David Frear has now confirmed on a recent earnings call that the outfit is indeed developing an iPhone / iPod touch app. It's interesting to think that a satellite radio firm could be warming to delivering more content via the internet, but it's the apparent diversion from being a standalone offering that has us even more intrigued. It should be interesting to see how the pricing model works with this forthcoming app -- will users be able to get an iPhone subscription only? Will it be tossed in gratis with traditional subscriptions? So many questions, not enough patience.

This is also why Sirius updated the TOS to let everyone know that you cant use ANY third party application to listen online.Thats why usirius, starplayr and the others are all dead. Its so very sad.
Sirius wont be able to make a player for every phone OS in time for people to care. They need to just make an API and let developers write players for all platforms.
Untill then, you can still torrent the top talent shows and not pay them a dime.
The ToS have always forbidden 3rd party apps. It did so when I first subbed in 2005, as I read it when I began using SiriusMac, then later on StarPlayr. This is nothing new.
Uhh, Pandora is free. Pandora ftw without question!
Pandora doesn't offer news, traffic reports, live DJ's (if you were alive in the 80's you remember making requests and dedications), talk radio, or Playboy radio. Nor is it available in HighQuality unless you're connected via WiFi.
Aye you StarPlyr dudes, forget the fruit. Come on over to the, "G SIIIIIIDEEE!"
G1 Open Dev FTW!! Just sayin...
This will be totally useful until Sirius/XM goes out of business next month.
Not exactly current now are you?
Dude you have to stop DVR'ing the news.
They have this for Blackberries already. It's an extra charge on top of your sub. And you only get like 10 channels. What a rip. After April when I know longer have to drive 3 hours each way every other weekend I'm canceling XML for good. Ever since they took away all the music stations I liked, all I listen to on it is the news. I would pay a couple bucks a month to just get news channels, but not $13. RIP satellite radio. Way to be greedy douche bags.
What do you mean they have this for Blackberries? Or do you mean StarPlyr
i'm referring to the player XM offers here.

Ummm... so basically, they're just looking to legalize what's been around for years:

(slacker rulz!)
I would totally subscribe to Sirius XM if this was a reality. I like the sports talk and Stern and this way, I wouldn't have to wait 'til I rent a car to listen! ^_^
There goes the AT&T network, with thousands streaming 24/7. Look for bandwidth caps or a shakedown fee from AT&T. Also, this is more in response to Pandora (which now officially kicks Sat radios ass, and I was a huge XM fan) than anything else.
Comparing Pandora to live Sirius radio is akin to comparing Netflix to digital cable. Use whatever works for you, but for the last 6 months I get my Sirius in the car, in the wife's car, in the living room, in my office, and on my iPhone. Sirius, in my case, has better coverage for my needs than Pandora or even FM radio (high-floor office, surrounded by TV broadcasting towers).
StarPlayr was the bomb (I was on the beta team), but Sirius put the squash on the approval process. It wasn't *rejected*, but rather placed into a state of purgatory. The resulting fallout caused the disbanding of the programming team and cancellation of all StarPlayr products.
I'm curious to see if they just stole StarPlayr. I can't imagine any corporation putting together an app better than those 4 guys did. Whatever they do/did, they need to step it up. They've got 8 months...that's when my beta app expires.
This great news and the only reason I would consider dropping my BlackBerry for an iPhone. Satellite radio is good, very good especially when streaming at the 128kbps rate. For those that don't like Satellite Radio and its exclusive content, I'm happy you are happy with whatever you listen to. I kinda like to keep up with live news, sports, concerts and the music I want.
I used to like like it. Then they took away ALL music the channels I listened to. And I mean ALL. And they weren't even fringe channels, they were the alt. rock channels. The replacement channels they put in place are no better than the local FM stations.
I really do wish I could pay them a couple bucks just for the news channels though. That's one thing I can't replace very well with my phone.
Radiolicious is the best app to date. Social, Stable, and Highly interactive! Way to go guys.....quite an impressive app for true iphone radio broadcasting! Highly Recommend!
Budget-conscious...
I'd get Sirius if I could stream it on my iPhone.
They better release a version for Windows Mobile!
This was reported at Siriusbuzz.com two weeks ago. Why take the image but not the story when it was first published?

I gotta say, if I can get O & A on my iPhone, I'll be happy as hell.
i dont see why this is such a big deal, there are plenty of internet radio apps in the appstore.
This isnt the first time Sirius has wanted to put their service on the iPhone. I remember a few years back they wanted to integrate Sirius into iTunes and allow you to take Sirius recordings with you on the go with your iPod.
Old News??? This has been talked about on the Howard Stern Show dozens of times..
Aaah....iPhone Apps.....only 2-3 years behind the times on everything...and they charge you money for these.
Windows Mobile has had a free Sirius streaming app for years which works perfectly......not to mention the fantastic Yahoo Sirius Tuner widget.
