AgfaPhoto announces "world's first" HD photo frames

The "world's first" claim may be a tad on the dubious side, but AgfaPhoto's new 10-inch AF5105MS and 13-inch AF5135MS HD photo frames certainly seem to deliver where it counts, with each packing a 1,280 x 800 resolution and all the usual multimedia-related features you'd expect from a high-res frame. At just 22mm thick, they're also pretty slim by photo frame standards and, in addition to being available in black or white, they each come with a set of interchangeable frames to suit your decor. No word on a price just yet, but you'll likely want to factor in the cost of a memory card, as each come equipped with just 256MB of internal memory.

Isn't today Friday the 13th? What happened to the Jason shops?
Agfa already axed their film divison - Jason isn't needed.
My thoughts exactly.
Just about to ask that. WHERE THE F$(% is Jason?!
Cant you see him? He is in a boat near the horizon.
what the hell is that giant white stripe
photoshop glass?
maybe they are taking a hint from Apple's photos. although this is a bit overdone.
either way its about time these frames are higher res. Although I have a 1024x768 15 inch that looks quite nice.
stripes make stuff faster
Photoshop 101 Class, day 1.
His hand slipped...
if that's supposed to be gloss it's fucking awful
haha i was thinking, i could make a more realistic frame in photoshop. Maybe engadget made that frame.
This is incorrect you can't savor HD quality in 10inches. You need a screen of at least 20" this is a big scam. Buyer BEWARE!!!!
Well yeah if you look at it on a table standing 4 feet away from it. But what if someone picks it up and looks at closely? The calculated PPI of 150.4 is half of what a 300 DPI print would be.
I disagree.
I think for displaying still images most digital photo frames are horribly low resolution compared with printed photos. After all, you wouldn't consider printing, say, a 10inch picture from a camera with less than a 5mp resolution.
However, 5mp equates to a resolution of 1944 x 2592, much much higher than even this "HD" Digital photo frame.
IMO, as far as still images go, the more resolution the better. A 10 inch full colour 1080p e-ink screen is what I'm waiting for :-)
@Lawrence Siegel:
Please buy an 42"in LCD TV and hook up with eee pc ;-) there u go, 42" photo frame.
1,280 x 800 ... so not a *full* HD then?
Okay, I'll bite.
Why do these photo frames have non-photo aspect ratios?
Because laptop screens were cheaper to source.
This is, actually, a photo aspect ratio. Photos are traditionally (and from nearly all DSLRs) in the 1.5:1 aspect ratio. That would be 1200:800. I presume 1280:800 is a conveniently available compromise.
You might argue that the kind of imbecile who buys a digital photo frame probably isn't the kind of obsessive who buys a DSLR rather than a compact camera (compact cameras generally take images in TV aspect ratios - 4:3 or occasionally 16:9). But then again, this is possibly a higher-than-average quality photo frame, so maybe they're aiming for that market.
Incidentally, does this Agfa have any actual connection to the old one, or is it like Polaroid where they just sold off the name to a random Chinese importer?
256 MB internal memory? HEY that's awesome! But shouldn't we donate some of our old 1 GB usbsticks grapware to Agfaphoto to make a point not? How much costs 2 GB memory today, 256 bucks?
It is the same cancer like the laptop-industry DVI-port ignorance recently.
