Pentax's $399.95 X70 megazoom up for pre-order
Oh sure, you've got plenty of options when it comes to selecting a shooter with zoom for days, but what's the harm in having one more option to comb over? The X70, which we saw peek out ahead of PMA, is finally up for pre-order on the outfit's own site. In case you've forgotten, this 12 megapixeler boasts a stupendous 24x optical zoom, 2.7-inch LCD monitor and an SDHC card slot. Worth four Benjamins? Depends on how bad you want to see that blade of grass way over there on the 30 yard line.

why cant you give away one of these?
I voted for you for such a great idea!
do want
Their site says 'Out of Stock'. Does that mean it's just pre-order or the pre-orders are now gone?
Frankly I'm disappointed it doesn't have a 70x zoom.
me too. that was the only reason why i picked this article to read
you mean how bad you want to see that piece of ass way over there 3 buildings over
42mp/cm^2 "pixel" density means iso 200 looks semi-ok, and iso400 is barely usable.
For non-photo folks here, what this means is :
Imagine someone hits you in the face really hard, and then gives you a pair of very nice binoculars.
i still don't understand your metaphor, please explain.
no sarcasm here
it means if you use ISO setting higher than 200, the picture will look like garbage.
Oh great... now any Joe Schmoe with $400 can become a Paparazzi...
Well, I guess that what comes with popularity like me!
AHAHAH!
"HD movie capture vividly captures moving memories in widescreen 720p (15 FPS)"
Uhh, 15fps for $400?? Pardon me, but screw you, Pentax. There are much better choices out there that have long zooms & do full HD (30fps) that are similarly priced.
You mean like Panasonic cameras?
Lumix FTW.
Reminds me of the Panasonic FZ28. It seems like this camera may have a slight image quality/zoom advantage, although I don't know those Leica lenses are pretty damn nice. The Panasonic wins hands down for video for sure.
I'll pass on this one. I don't care how much it can zoom, it's ugly and kinda cheap looking.
Nikon P90 has 24x zoom and images seem to be very high quality at 12MP
I am a Pentax DSLR user and I quite like it. The interface is easy, the button layout puts EVERYTHING at my fingertips (unlike canon's entry level DSLR cameras). I think this will be a good camera for people not wanting to get into an SLR level camera but want features such as long zoom.
This should be a good camera.
