Video: BlackBerry 9630 Niagara shown off... and on, and off again
As if the both sets of pictures weren't enough to give you a glimpse at the BlackBerry 9630 "Niagara," now CrackBerry forums member salisa.m has graced us mortals with some honest-to-goodness video of the thing in all its rebooting glory. Of course -- in the tradition of all things leaked -- the video's got a good amount of blurriness, but it's not like we haven't seen it before. Apparently this 'Berry's rocking OS 4.7.1.10 -- not 4.6 like its sibling the Bold -- but it's got a "very likable Bold keyboard" albeit with a bit smaller keys. The back battery cover looks to be a piano-like carbon fiber plastic with a new hinge design to prevent dust accumulation, and it's described as being very light and sleek. Unfortunately, the OS was super buggy, and the videographer couldn't even get the device fully powered on for a tour of Verizon's presumably tweaked software -- but with this latest torrent of information over the past few days, we're sure that we'll be seeing a lot more of this bad boy in the not-so-distant future.

Niagara? Surely it would have been better as niagra? which ryhmes with Via... Oh. Doesn't Matter.
Yeah, that's what I call it
Man, I wonder where he got that wonderful camera.
General Blurry-cam's Army Surplus, of course!
Didn't Engadget announce that a new Blackberry would be released for Sprint in Q1 2009? What happened to that? Is the 9630 definitely only for Verizon?
It was a great camera til he wiped his nose with the lens...
Don't think that was his nose. He was out of TP.
Why would people buy this crap phone (like most if not all blackberrries)?
It doesn't have WiFi, the web browser is total crap.
There are a lot of better alternatives out there at the price RIM expects you to pay.
RIM is making zero contribution to the cell phone space, they are sucking up money from companies that are actually innovating. And indirectly, they are increasing the overall cost of phones too.
sure the specs are low, software isn't good either, but the ease of push email, and the great plans make it all worth it. i can get unlimited internet and email on my blackberry for $60 a month. to make things better, that comes with unlimited international roaming for those, so i can use the internet in any country that has internet, on any network in range. I've gotten every carrier i've heard of in England, can your nokias do that without having to sell your firstborn?
because blackberrys are very durable, some of them due have wifi/gps and on top of that the internet on a blackberry is more for email not browsing around and if you really hate the black berry browser there is opera mobile. Also there really isnt any comparative phones, at least not at att, the only other phone that comes close is the iphone which the plan for that sucks 40 bucks and you dont even get unlimited nights and weekends. Don't forget that a blackberry can also organize your calendar too. Those are all reason why people are getting blackberrys (or do you spell it blackberries???)
Verizon doesnt do WiFi, it isnt a blackberry thing. I have a Verizon pearl without wifi, but the pearl on other carriers has wifi available. Personally, I can pull up most pages pretty quickly using the over the air network, even in my office where the signal is weak. Also I hear wifi kills battery life. While I would rather have wifi than not, its not something I have to have. And if you hate the BB browser, download opera mini like I did. Im really interested in this Niagara, I liked the pearl, but Im itching for a full qwerty keyboard and a bigger screen.
I think they intentionally use these blurry cameras some time.
What camera in this day and age looks that crappy.
Watching this video made me blind.
Is this expected to launch with the Blackberry app world?
Want. Now.
It's not made by Apple, so therefore it sucks and I don't want it.
you know for a top-tier tech blog, your video reviews sure blow monkey nuts. It hurt my eyes it was so blurry. And whoever is doing the voice over should read bed time stories for a living.
yes, because it doesn't count as news unless it has more pixels than your new canon, eh? at least it's got a video, props to engadget if they found the phone so early.
Yeah, because clearly the gadget-obsessed editors of Engadget shot this video themselves. Damn them all!
Hey, Verizon.
I know that you and I have had our differences over the years, especially when you say things like "check out my superior call quality!" and then I'm all "call quality is horseshit when all you gave me was an enV and a trip to the dermatologist." But now, I'm ready to put our differences aside and say "thanks" for this.
Love,
Me.
The guy recording is a Cylon.
Gotta love the JVM errors!!!
