Bang & Olufsen debuts 40-inch BeoVision 8 LCD HDTV
Slowly but surely, the BeoVision 8 is creeping up into big screen territory. Bang & Olufsen's latest iteration, more casually known as the BV8-40, pulls those LCD TV edges out to 40-inches diagonally and features a lush 1,920 x 1,080 native resolution. Other specs include 500 nits of brightness, a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, six-millisecond response time, a digital TV tuner (for those in DVB regions) and a pretty swank set of internal speakers to boot. All we're told regarding pricing is that the MSRP is "attractive," but we get the feeling it's only sexy to those who aren't concerned with zeros and decimal places.

They can certainly put a few more zeros in that contrast ration
They could have also used a real TV show
yeah seriously! good point! 3000:1 ?! they should be selling that shit in costco!
@ Sean, clearly you've never seen european television :/
@ Richard, You clearly have me confused with a person who actually cares
@Sean, you are probably correct.
Look at the first and last pics (The ones with the jailbait doing exorcise and just chillin).
its the same clip... same pic...
@myself OH CRAP I MEANT SECOND TO LAST, THE LAST ONE IS NOT JAILBAIT!!!!!!!
TV viewing was meant to be a "lean back" experience. Someone at B&O misunderstood this - and made a "lean back" TV instead ! Imagine watching that TV after you've downed a few beers (no, make that whiskeys or champagnes) and are leaning back on a sofa. Anyway, with it's technical specs below any unbranded Aldi set, and a stocky design that can at best beat slim CRTs, you wouldn't wanna tweet about it. Even if it were priced with a few leading zeros missing. The only question is - has someone in B&O marketing visited a mediamarkt recently (as in the last 12 to 18 months)?
If by "lush" then you mean standard then ok.
If by "lush" you mean the brunette on the exercise ball then OK :)
The "8" is the number of your young you must sell into slavery to afford it
/OctaMum develops interest.....
Wait, aren't you referring to Octopu.... Oops, forget it, I was thinking of a James Bond movie
It looks like the base will block part of the picture unless you are sitting/viewing at a higher angle. That's a BAD design.
Looks f****** ugly!
What's that ledge doing hanging off the bottom.
Well, after the latest round of bonuses at AIG - maybe sales won't be so bad after all!
They are actually really nice in person. Definitely have to have modern decor to go with it. The intent for the first one they came out with was to sit it on the floor rather than on a stand. The "ledge" looks even better that way.
This post needs a /sarcasm tag. :P

Designer David Lewis explains: "What we did was we moved the sound forward and up, designing the TV like a proper stage with an orchestra pit. This ensured the synergy between performance and design expected of Bang & Olufsen."

I think the real question is who made the 100Hz picture tube mentioned on that page and how are those B&O sales numbers in a so-called financial crisis? :)
Yeah okay. I don't think Dora the Explorer is going to be noticably more enjoyable with orchestra-pit sound placement.
Why is this B&O tv so ugly? It can double up as a notice stand when you are not watching it.
I would guess 3000:1 is the native contrast most companies announce their dynamic contrast ratios. Even so the number doesn't mean anything.
On the read page it says the TV remote controle has to be purchased separately! Nice, I know it say sit is an entry level system, but seriously?!
F&&& Bang &Olufsen. They are a bunch of fascist jerks. Every time I try to sell a pair of headphones of theirs on eBay or Amazon they email our company with a legal notice/threat. Ever heard of FREE MARKETPLACE? They're name pretty much says it all... Never EVER buying anything again from this company!
The only product line that makes even Bose look good is Bang Olsen twins.
made by douchebags bought by bigger douchebags...dis exhibit iz closed!
For everyone in US !!!
B&O is very expensive trademark in DK
Is expensive than Sony, Philips, Panasonic or Harman&Kordon !!!
Good to know
BTW, everyone here knows about Bang & Olufsen. For the price, they are not good electronics (from a performance standpoint). They are purchased for style, not performance. They are more pieces of furniture than electronics.
o_o,,
Bang & Olufsen ... their headphones are pretty MEH! for the premium they charge. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't around much longer.
What's so remarkable about this TV?
Well you are getting the best speakers in any tv set (probably) but if your that enthusiastic about sound i am sure you would be buying a 7.1 Surround sound system anyway....
Its price.
^^ both
Does it come with the couch? If so I'm totally sold.
Two things come to mind when I see anything by B&O
1) Form over function
2) BO stands for body odor. (I'm just sayin')
As long as you know that you're paying for the styling, not the electronics, it's fine. Really, these pieces aren't bad because for some, they are stunning to look at (not watch). However, when they try to pawn these off as hi-fi or high quality electronics, that's when it becomes false advertising.
I remember looking at a $10,000.00 B&O TV a few months ago, just out of curiosity. Then I noticed it didn't even have an HDMI port listed in the specs.
What utter nonsense. If your most important factor in buying a TV is "What does its design say about me as a person?" then what it's saying is "You're a douchebag." Even if you have the cash to spare, there are much better ways to spend it.
... Apple?
Everyone here is looking at B&O from the wrong standpoint. Obviously a regular joe would see this TV as nonsense, because you are not the target market. By trying to justify the price as outlandish it makes you feel better that, "even if I could afford it, I wouldn't buy it". However if you could afford this stuff you would buy it. Excess spending is something people inherently do, that's why the world's economy is in the dumps.
People who are the target market will understand the pricing scheme, the people who buy B&O electronics are paying for almost a piece of art. Each piece is designed first and the design is the focal point, not the specs. By looking at the specs over the design you are misjudging the pricing scheme. I myself will never be able to afford any B&O electronics, but I can see why their pieces are so expensive. Design is not cheap, that is why art is not cheap. Check the names of the designers of B&O electronics, they are all well known.
I mean how much is a famous painting worth anyways??? 100$ for the paint and canvas??
I was a B&O dealer for decades, but no longer have to put up with their corporate arrogance. It appears that they are continuing to sell underperforming and overpriced product that just looks good but is 2-5 years behind the current technology we can purchase in the US. B&O america has no ability to deliver products that the US market really wants. As I was told a B&O exec from Denmark many years ago, "the US represents only 10% of our market" so how can we build products that the US market thinks are important. The company and its US subsidiaries are rarely profitable and they have bankrupted countless dealers and other suckers that "invest" in purchasing a B&O store. Hopefully this recession will finally put them out of business.
The marketers at B&O better start waking up, their design and tech are so outdated, and their price is too high. Still can't figure out what everyone's (the rich ones who think they make more of a count) raving about this brand.....
Is it just me or is this thing hideous anyways?
Am I the only person who thinks that living room is way too sterile for a kid to have a childhood in? CALL SOCIAL SERVICES!
how long have companies been pushing these products to go along with their idea of this stupid modern, white, clean image where everything is blindingly bright? does it even exist yet?
not to mention that yellow pillow in the middle of all the white is an extremely deep symbol.
i hate these pictures.
