Kogan's Bluetooth GPS watch is not for the fashion forward

If we have one word of advice for folks looking to get into the tech game (that is, besides "why bother?") it would probably be "set the bar low." Don't try to change the world with an unlocked 3G Android handset until you've mastered the basics, like maybe a netbook or, better yet, a watch. Of course, it would be a bit much to expect a true visionary to stop short of a humble timepiece. To this end, Kogan's rebranding that old Mainnav chronometer, the one that packs Bluetooth, a GPS receiver, a temperature sensor, speedometer, pedometer, altimeter, and Google Earth functionality into a package that most of us would probably rather not be seen wearing in public. Available for AUS $129 (about US $85).

just needs a speedo and phone built in then its useful!
does it tell time?
A speedo?! You wear this around your _wrist_, that's with an R, not an A.
Engadget FAIL:

So commenters better understand what I was getting at:

No mention that this is just another clone of a gps watch they've already covered?
Wow dude, we get it. You act like Engadget got your bailout money. Gold star for you and the others like you.
Great sleuthing, Robrain!
Just post the addess of your gadget-centric blog below and I'll never need to visit Engadget again!
lol
I just very vividly remembered that blocky watch from the original Engadget article. I posted the first link because at the time of reading _this_ article, I couldn't remember the original source where I'd seen it (a quick Google image search of "gps watch" found two pics on the very first page).
I mean, to quote the first line of the original article: "GPS watches certainly aren't new 'round these parts, but a timepiece that sticks up around 1.1-inches off your arm has to set some sort of unwanted record."
It's hard to forget something like that. Wasn't saying Engadget shouldn't exist. All their Apple love aside, I love this place.
did i miss a quick edit here, or does

pretty much cover what you're saying they didn't cover.
Article was edited.
well that just throws these comments off completely, doesn't it.
"quick.. fix it... but don't credit those little people"
Kogan? I happen to remember this same company coming out with an affordable Android phone: Agora and Agora Pro. It happened to mysteriously disappear from their website at launch date after being available for pre-order for months. What happened to that?
It morphed into a netbook.

looks abit like a Bell & Ross watch!
Those are hot! second only to panerai.
The menu font looks like a computer BIOS...
Does the thing at least set itself by utilizing the GPS time signal? If you're going to wear a brick like that on your wrist, at least make it an accurate brick as possible.
You'd need to be built like Arnold Schwarzenegger to wear that beast on our wrist
So we have to be a tall walking stick with saggy skin? or u meant to go back in time to Conan the Barbarian Schwarzenegger looking?
on the other hand i wonder if it come with services like the Spot thing does?
If I had one word to describe this watch it would be "Bluetooth, a GPS receiver, a temperature sensor, speedometer, pedometer, altimeter, and Google Earth functionality"
Who the hell wears a watch anymore anyway? My phone has a clock and a better GPS than this could any day...
Who the hell is geek enough to buy one of these and is human being enough to give the pedometer a try?
Geeks don't walk anywhere. Fact.
Must run DOS or something...
That would be a great GPS for Geocaching if it supports waypoints.
It just needs one more function to be what it looks like, a house arrest bracelet. If you want to look like a bad boy at the local coffee house wear this thing, everyone will think you are a felon.
A brick with a wriststrap is still a brick, not a watch...
I remember I used to have a Casio Pathfinder with GPS. How is this new? And that thing was the size of a standard G-Shock.

If that was the size of a regular g-shock, I would want to know what is a large g-shock looks like o_o
Uhmm does it tell time??
Well, you wont have to worry about people stealing it
This is an OLD DEVICE! Must be a SLOW news day when a 2 year old gadget makes it on here! They've been on ebay for at least 18 months ... I expect better from engadget!!
is it waterproof??
If you guys don't want it, I'll take it! I'm an ugly dude anyway, so it won't be clashing with my looks! :)
