NVIDIA licenses PhysX technology for Sony's PlayStation 3
After being on the tip of gamers' tongues last summer, NVIDIA's PhysX technology has cooled a bit in terms of sheer popularity. That said, we've no doubt that the buzz will be back in force after this one clears the airwaves. NVIDIA has just announced that it has nailed down a tools and middleware license agreement for Sony's PlayStation 3, effectively bringing the aforesaid physics tech to what's arguably the most potent game console on the market today. As a result of the deal, a PhysX software development kit (SDK) is now available to registered PS3 developers as a free download for use on the SCEI Developer Network. What exactly this means for future PS3 games remains to be seen, but one's things for sure: it's only up from here.

So does this mean better than Killzone 2 graphics?
Regarding about what someone said about noise on the PS3. I have both the Xbox360 Jasper and the newer 80GB PS3 and must say that the PS3 is by far much quieter than the XBOX360. The newer Xbox360's all use the Lite-on drives and they are ridiculously loud. It's like your 52X CD drive burning a CD all the time. I can't even head the PS3 drive from about 5 feet away. The XBOX360 drive can be heard from a distance of 7 feet away with the sound on at a moderate level.
Xbox360, and the Wii have had native support for Physx since their launch, why wasn't this mentioned? Sony's just playing catch up, plus physx support on a single Nvidia GPU is weak, I completely disabled it on my 8800GTS and since the PS3 GPU is weaker than a 7900GTX never mind the 8800 It will be even weaker, sony should have had IBM build support directly into the CPU (cell) like MS and Nintendo did in their CPU's for thier current gen systems.
It wasn't mentioned because it would make the article even more inaccurate than it already is.
The PS3 already has a Cell-optimized version of PhysX, and it has since launch. The only difference now is that NVidia are releasing it under their own brand name for free. The news is that PhysX is now free for developers on the PS3, no license fees needed.
Why can't people just buy both like me and I only us my computer to play games these days :P
Dude ur ALL wrong, the Geneses is WAY better than the SNES! You can't even get blood in Mortal Kombat on the Stupid Nintendo Entertainment Sucks.
Sega is the future and Sonic > Mario!!!!!
Oh, I'm sorry, judging by the comments, I thought we were 8 years old again.
Let me interrupt the rabble-rabble-rabble to state the following;
If you like old school difficulty in your PS3 rpg's, do yourself a favor and import From Software's Demon's Souls yesterdy!
There's english voiceovers in both the Asian and Japanese versions, however the Asian version also comes with english text. I bought both versions at yesasia. One to practise Nihongo, the other for the missus.
Oh yeah, it's a persistant-esque online and single player hybrid with coop. It's also possible to gain hundreds of levels if you so choose with many classes and much replayability.
So just because the ps3 supports more players online does not mean anything, it has far less people playing online because of the crap that is the psn, between my xbox and ps3 i would place xbox live leaps and bounds above psn.

since the decline of BF2 and release of COD4/WaW for XboX we have seen a big decline in the PC gaming arena, Damn XboX and PS3!!!
For all of you saying the picture is better on the 360 is wrong. The PS3 tops the 360 in that aspect. The max that the 360 can support is 720p or 1080i... While the PS3 can support up to 1080p. Also the 360 has 5.1 sound / PS3 has 7.1.... The PS3 has a higher refresh rate possibility than the 360... if you think otherwise you just have a shitty tv that probably has poor refresh rates.

the xbox 360 does 1080p aswell why would you think it doesnt?
it also could do 7.1 audio its just that it would have to fit on a dvd
they both do the same framerate
Sony only wishes that the disc format flank formation would've given them this war, much how like DreamCast died because of not having DVD.
Bluray, bluetooth, built in wi-fi, memory stick readers and sixaxis DO NOT a better game make.
Specs-wise, the two consoles pretty much even out. CellBE might be better than Xenon, but Xenos spanks RSX. CellBE has 2 PPE + 6 SPE threads of execution (7th in use by OS, 8th locked for process yields), while Xenon has 3 dual-threaded cores, for a total of 6. PS3 has 256MB GDDR3 and 256MB XDR, while x360 has 512MB GDDR3 and 10MB EDRAM. But specs aside, x360 is a contender to reckon with.
PPE threads do not qualify for being called cores as they cannot be bootstrapped. Programs see the ONLY the threads of the active bootstrapped cores, in PS3's case the PPE. Therefore, the CellBE logically exists as a dual-threaded PPE with its SUBORDINATE SPE threads of execution. Why else do you think EIB exists? They need to be fed work from the PPE, hence why developers must OPTIMIZE their games to take advantage of CellBE.
In x360, Xenon manifests itself to programs as 6 available threads of execution. They do not depend on each other for work. This is why programming for Xbox 360 has been considered easier.
Also, Xenos being a fully Unified Shader Architecture GPU gives it a substancial edge over RSX's Standard Shader Array (dedicated pipelines for vertex and pixel shaders). Xenos will be more efficient in handling the oncoming workload, as developers can tailor their game engines to emphasize how their scenes play out and not run into too many stalls over full pipelines.
