This means nothing really. The PS3's graphics are based on GeForce 7 series architecture, so this isn't going to be hardware powered physics like you see on the PC (With 8/9/200 series and CUDA). It's going to be more like the Havok Physics engine, which has been around for years
the graphics chip in the xbox360 is more powerful than the one in the ps3. games will never utilize the full computational capacity of the cell processor, and tying blu ray to the ps3 was a mistake as it forced the price of the console to stay high
expect this to be the next thing sony trys using as a selling point
@kavu44 "the graphics chip in the xbox360 is more powerful than the one in the ps3."
Xenos (XB360): 500Mhz RSX (PS3): 550Mhz

"games will never utilize the full computational capacity of the cell processor"
That is the problem of the developers, not the console. It's like putting a grandma behind the wheel of a race car, she can't drive 300KM/H and it's not the car's fault.

"and tying blu ray to the ps3 was a mistake as it forced the price of the console to stay high"
The PS3 is aimed as a media center. You get a Bluray player, Internet browser, Youtube, WiFi, built in Hard Drive AND a game console. All in one. Oh, and free online play for the life of the console.

"Xenos (XB360): 500Mhz RSX (PS3): 550Mhz"
So you honestly believe the clock speed is the only important factor in a GPU?

Why is it the developers fault that sony made a platform that is harder to create games on than microsoft did?

I am not trying to be bias, I own both consoles, but its annoying when someone acts like either platform is the best period. They both have their pros and cons, to me 360 is a superior gaming platform while PS3 is a superior multimedia platform.
The argument he made that blu-ray was a mistake is a valid argument, Sony went from completely dominating the video game market to being in last place this entire generation and I think its safe to say the cost is one of the factors that caused that.
If Sony had designed the PS3 around being an affordable gaming console from the beginning and not a device to win the blu-ray vs hd-dvd war maybe they would still be on top in the video game world. However i'm sure winning the blu-ray vs hd-dvd war was enough justification to them for the route they decided to go.
"Why is it the developers fault that sony made a platform that is harder to create games on than microsoft did?" - How simple does it have to be? Put file here, put file there, click generate output? How I see it: If you are scared to let your mental capacity evolve to figure out complex puzzles, you're weak. Personally, I think that if the platform doesn't evolve, it will fail in the long run. It's not entirely hard to believe that microsoft can screw things up. If anyone thinks they can't, google Windows Vista. (Damn, I may have just lowered my chances of getting voted up)
@Alex, But, how was this move by Sony any different than when, they mad the PS1 or the PS2? Both machines used a different media format than what was popular at the time and caused the devs (at that time) some heart pain! Sony used this formula 2 times now, and it’s paid off big time!
Why would they change? What would make you (or anybody) think that they wouldn’t repeat the same actions? The Hardware is Solid and the firmware has grown since launch! I’ve had both systems since launch and I still remember what XBL use to look and act like! (Some would say it was a lot like the PSN)
But back on topic! Having these tools available should help any developer working on both platforms, cut down on cost and dev/port time. (I would hope)
HP's Jon Rubenstein told us that his company wanted to veer in a new direction, and veer it surely did -- the HP Veer 4G will arguably be the smallest fully-functional smartphone on the market when it goes on sale May 15th.

Yea that is why I think, rather prefer Havok it is proven technology without hardware specific acceleration, software physx is horrible.

@Kavu44
The game disc that the PS3 plays needs the Blu Ray Player to work. If they took out Blu Ray, you can't play the games... i think?
Counter-counter-counter-point.
Retort.

anyone here defending the ps3 as a game console disgusts me
