Modistech unveils flexible, ultrathin OLED light in Korea
We just heard that the OLED market was set to skyrocket in 2011, but don't tell Modistech. Said outfit has just revealed its own flexible, ultrathin OLED light module in South Korea, which honestly looks eerily similar to Samsung's "flapping" OLED panels from last fall. Details are pretty scant right now, but we're told to expect mass production within the next year, with public availability penciled in for -- you guessed it -- 2011. Hit the read link for a few more delightful looks.

2011 is a reall popular year for these OLED thingymajiggadeeez..cant wait to see this tech implemented in a 50in tv
wow, I have never seen thingymajiggadeez actually wrote down somewhere before
I agree, oled screens are superb, but it is odd to me how not a lot of people are picking up the cowon s9 even though it the first portable video player with that kind of screen. I think that while there is a demand, to many people, in the main stream, still don't know/care about the best screen tech available. Slickness buy's you a lot as a company these days, you can sell an inferior product if you have good marketing and a unbelievably slick interface. Personally I would like some devices that truly innovative in software and hardware, like the S9. We will see.....
Ah, come on! The world's going to end in 2012, that doesn't give us very long to enjoy our flexible cellphones, laptops, and TVs, now does it?! Give them us NOW, before we're all DOOMED.
not that this is a good thing or id rather have it this way, but iCowon would not only sell a billion units, it would be honored forever as the pioneer on OLED technology because it had a half eaten fruit stuck to the back of it. and then every OLED device to exist in the rest of forever would be compared to that, and shunned even if better... people really like half eaten fruits.
I'm not sure I understand here... Is this just a light source or an actual display?
If it's a light source I'm not completely understanding the news here. I'm been using and modifying OLED sheet panels since like 2000/2001.
Someone fill me in?
But this one is .007" thinner than the ones you use!
I wonder if oled lighting technology will make its way into back lights for lcds. They'd take even less power than leds and maybe smaller.
But then why not get rid of the LCD completely and go with a OLED display?
2011. One year to enjoy this. Than 2012 hits.
Sorry didn't know MaxSMoke made similar comment.
Not related, but I wish you guys would cover MIX 09 and the new stuff that came out...
Wow, I cannot wait until my band can get ahold of these for tour passes...
anybody here having a premature-nergasm?
im ready for these, can you imagine the possibilities? So fuckin many, its gonna be great when companies start using these
i cant wait till the day of a fold up screen! just think, a 10inch netbook wit a 17 in fold up screen! itd be amazing!!
how about a 10 inch netbook with a 20 inch fold up screen? (folded 2 times, one vertically and one horizontally) =)
Widescreen shower curtains anyone? Would never leave he bathroom
I thought 2011 was when OLED TV's are supposed to skyrocket.
Anyway, GE was developing this a while ago... Multiple companies have done it since... So when are we gonna light our homes with it already?!
Just imagine a whole bunch of these babys spiral bound, each holding a page from your favorite ebook! Then you could actually turn them! Think of the tactile response! Wonder what they'd call it...
useless
Or write up your homework on these and then they automatically turn it into pdfs that you send in to the professor
how about some REAL e-paper with a refresh rate of 60HZ instead of 0.2HZ? maybe even touch capabilities? write draw paint etc with a stylus... on something that feels kinda like real drawing! wouldnt that be awesome =D no more tracing drawings in photoshop or overpriced digital pens!
i know most of this is already on the market but not all in one AND usable as a proper display... (e-ink is waaay to slow for some applications)
